can Fairfax police give out tickets on I-66? (or State Police give out tickets on loca streets?)

I was always under the impression that the Fairfax County police cannot issue tickets on I-66 or I-495 for speeding, HOV, and other violations. Only the State Police can do that... for the same reason that the VA State Police cannot issue tickets on local streets for things like rolling through a stop sign or illegal left turn out of a mall parking lot.

Or am I incorrect? Do they not have any jurisdiction conflicts?

Thanks!

va state police can give a ticket anywhere in va, hence the term State Police.fairfax police can give a ticket anywhere in fairfax. if the part of i66 is in fairfax, then they can give a ticket there. it's called jurisdiction.

discussion over.

It's moot now that there are no County stickers anymore...but the State Police never enforced that....only a County cop could give a ticket for no sticker.

So the question is Can county cops be redundant? Or only the state police?

I always wondered about what happens when you go down to another county that does still have stickers, like Henrico Co. Wonder if FFX people get pulled over all the time for having VA plates and no tax sticker.

I always wondered about this too. One of you experts, please clear this up for us.

Little known fact is that not having a county/city tag is actually a civil offense and not traffic. County police have no authority to enforce civil law only criminal. No one has ever contested it so I wonder what would happen if they do.
