He got canned today for a report on environmentalist protest in Washington. I think he'll get picked up by Fox News.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It was also really dumb, because they got mad that he exposed Obama's connection to the oil lobby (Specifically BP). If he had the facts on his side, then they had no right to get their panties in a bunch over it.

This guy's grandfather also owned the Evening Star, which used to be the best newspaper around (My fam used to always get it, both when they moved back from NY, and prior to that when they were stationed at Ft. Myer).

I hadn't heard about this before but from what I see he was editorializing not being an anchor.

After a brief taped segment updating efforts to cap the BP well, McKelway added that the Senate was unlikely to pass "cap-and-trade" legislation this year, because "the Democrats are looking at the potential for huge losses in Congress come the midterm elections. And the last thing they want to do is propose a huge escalation in your electric bill, your utility bill, before then."

That's not news, that's conjecture and opinion.

so is it speculation or a lie? if it's not "the facts," it has to be one of the other two.

The facts were NOT on his side. He was using mis-leading RNC talking points.

BP donated $1000 to Obama's senate campaign years ago. The donations Obama recieved when her running for President were all, if not then nearly all, from BP employees, not BP itself. I donated to Obama and that doesnt mean my employer will get anything out of it even if my employer knew.No one would be correct if they said my employer donated to Obama - because my employer did not.

Even Fred Grandy jumped on the bandwagon and said that BP donated $71000 to Obama was "pretty much the truth" when it is not. Just mis leading information spewed out by RNC talking heads.
Typing in "How much did BP give Obama" into google will give you the facts. Not mis-leading sound bites.

From Media Matters - Prove them wrong I dare you!

Obama received no PAC money from BP during his presidential campaign. As Media Matters noted, while Obama received $71,051 in BP-linked contributions during his presidential campaign -- more BP money than any other candidate received -- all of that money came from BP employees, not from BP's PAC or from the company itself. A spokesman for the Center for Responsive Politics confirmed that "the $71,051 that Obama received during the 2008 election cycle was entirely from BP employees." The CRP spokesman also stated that "Obama did not accept contributions from political action committees, so none of this money is from BP's PAC. And corporations themselves are prohibited from donating directly to candidates from their corporate treasuries."

Checking Open Secrets which tracks campaign giving I see ALOT of donations to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC)
and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), I do not see alot of names with a D in it.

It was really dumb on his part because he brought that up as if the protesters were ignoring the issue. That was one of their beefs with the administration and Congress. If you go up and down the Gulf states, every politician is tainted with oil contributions and lobbying. Oil has big clout because it's concentrated in a few large companies and their suppliers, while the other industries in the area have more competition.

I'm wondering why they even reported this as there were hardly any people. Perhaps he misled his boss so he could get in a video with all this editorializing.

Oh well. He will get picked up by some other station. It's not like he was on NBC 4 years ago.
