You know nothing of football. You can get by pretty far in high school football with just a few top players. QB has a D1 offer, Overton is reigning player of the year and committed to Virginia Tech, and WR JuJu Preston who is committed to Clemson, among others.

Juju Preston is currently being held out. Apparently, you can’t use a dog park in Kingstowne as an address. A few has still slipped through the cracks, but the truth will come out soon.

Annadale got smoked from an unathletic team, imagine how much Hayfield will score with Overton trying to be a jerk and run it up?

Definitely more than 15 kids transferred. Their roster also includes several freshman who will be playing Varsity and most, if not all of them attended a middle school other than Hayfield. They played with PME however!

Yo Jeff wishes he was respected soooo bad. End of the day his brother gets all the shine. I also know someone who lives on the same street as the QB in spotsy. VHSL has been made aware. It’s all coming. But back to what someone said. Why does Daryl still have a job. He put kids on the MEL that shouldn’t go to Hayfield (not allowed). Released texts between him and a student at hayfield ( very much not allowed). I don’t get it. If it was anyone else they’d be fired so fast. Oh well. Nothing will ever happen. Welcome to the new nova football

CONCORDE DISTRICT RESULTS/RANKING
1. Madison (2-0) 36 – Lake Braddock 15 [impressive win against a perennial Patriot District contender, Madison won 31-7 last year] *
2. Chantilly (2-0) 41 – W.T. Woodson 18 [a nice but expected win over Patriot District opponent, they won this game 31-21 last season] **
3. Westfield (1-1) 49 – Mount Vernon 6 [dominant win over a mediocre National District team]
4. West Potomac 31 Centreville (1-1) 21 [tough loss to a middle of the pack Patriot District team, Centreville lost this game last season 35-32] ***
5. Robinson 27 – South Lakes (0-2) 5 [embarrassing loss to a bad Patriot District squad, SL is going to have an awful season]
6. Oakton (1-1) 22 – Fairfax 21 [shocking upset over solid Patriot District team, go Oakton!, they lost this game 41-0 last season]

* Madison is a beast team again, definitely going to reach the state semifinals once more.
** Chantilly is clearly improved team from last year. Woodson is not a total pushover so solid game for Chantilly, outperforming last season.
*** Why does the Centreville team always seem less than the sum of their parts? They had enough talent to win this game.

Concorde went 3-2 versus Patriot this week.

Week 1 Results
Posted by: parentof2 ()
Date: September 08, 2024 11:30AM

Back to back weeks where I feel like I missed on a lot of games... Let's recap:

1. Anacostia (DC) @ Wakefield (-3)
- Wakefield won 39-12, congrats to the Warriors on ending their 22 game losing streak!

2. Chantilly (-35) @ Woodson
- Chantilly won 41-18, failing to cover.

3. Dunbar (MD) @ Stone Bridge (-3)
- Stone Bridge lost this one, 14-8. I didn't know anything about Dunbar coming in but upon doing some research, it turns out they are a reputable program out of Baltimore. I wasn't expecting the Bulldogs to play anyone weak and they are not shying away from playing top tier teams.

4. Langley @ Herndon (-13)
- Another one I missed on as Langley defeats Herndon 18-15. Herndon has now lost 6 in a row to Langley.

5. Madison (-7) @ Lake Braddock
- Madison controlled this game from start to finish, winning comfortably 36-15.

6. Marshall (-42) @ Falls Church
- Marshall won and covered, 49-0.

7. McLean (-24) @ Lee
- McLean won 28-12, failing to cover.

8. Oakton @ Fairfax (-40)
- This might've been my biggest miss in all of my years of doing NOVA spreads, and I deserve all of the criticism I get for this one, I even laughed at myself. Oakton got the win 22-21. I wonder if they scored a late TD to get it to 20-21 and went for 2 and the win? Anyway, hats off to the Cougars for a heck of a win on the road.

9. Robinson (-3) @ South Lakes
- Robinson won and covered, 27-6. South Lakes is potentially in for a long, long year.

10. South County @ Quince Orchard (MD) (-17)
- Quince Orchard wins big, 54-7. QO is a powerhouse and it looks like the Stallions, despite having talent on their roster, might be having a down year.

11. T.C. Williams @ Colonial Forge (-30)
- Colonial Forge won 35-14. That's now 13 straight losses for the Titans which is bananas to me considering they have the entire City of Alexandria to pull from. It might be time to make a coaching change in Alexandria.

12. Washington-Lee (-40) @ Annandale
- Washington-Lee won and covered, 46-3.

13. West Potomac @ Centreville (-3)
- West Potomac won 31-21. This one was hard to pick given that we hadn't seen West Potomac before this week. Now I have some questions pertaining to Centreville. They're starting out this season the exact same way they started out last season in which they ended 2-8. Going to interesting to how they preform in the upcoming weeks.

14. Westfield (-6) @ Mount Vernon
- Westfield dominated this one, winning easily 49-6. Again, Mount Vernon was a team that we had yet to see this season.

15. Woodrow Wilson (DC) @ Yorktown (-22)
- Yorktown won 28-13, failing to cover. I'm a bit surprised the margin in this one wasn't higher.

Week 2
Posted by: parentof2 ()
Date: September 08, 2024 11:33AM

Playing this week a little more conservative after having back to back subpar weeks per my own standards. Definitely looking to do better this week. Time will tell. Anyway, here we go:

1. Centreville (-3) @ Fairfax
- Interesting game here with both teams coming off losses and both looking for a win. Fairfax has to be pissed off after losing to Oakton and Centreville is looking to take a step up and get above .500. My gut tells me to ride with the Wildcats in a close one, so that’s what I’ll do. I think Shields and co. find a way to get it done on the road.

2. Falls Church @ South Lakes (-17)
- Yes, South Lakes has been a disappointment so far this year but expect them to get their first win of the year at home against a struggling Falls Church program.

3. Hayfield (-60) @ Annandale
- As I’m sure everyone knows, another article came out this week about Hayfield. Eligibility is determined by the school and I have absolutely no idea what’s going on at Hayfield, it's crazy to say the least. I guess all of the kids who have been cleared and played in their first game are good to go and the others won’t be eligible. Maybe for the entire year? I have no idea. All of it is very interesting to watch in real time, though. Maybe Overton picked the wrong county to coach in? Anyway, look for a running clock by the 2nd half. Hayfield could play their backups for the entire game and would still win big. (They beat Annandale last year 50-0)

4. Lake Braddock (-3) @ Westfield
- Game of the week. Will the Bruins be able to bounce back in Chantilly? I think this game will tell us a lot about both teams. While I’m not counting Westfield out of this one, I think the Bruins are the better team. Westfield is going to have to score a ton of points in this one to keep up with Lake Braddock’s offense. Should be a fun game!

5. Langley (-10) @ Edison
- Edison won this game by 1 possession last year and don’t expect Langley to forget that. Luckily for the Saxons, the Eagles are not as talented or as deep as they were last year. Look for the Saxons to win by double digits on the road.

6. Lee @ Washington-Lee (-27)
- While I do think the Lancers are slowly improving, I think the Generals are still going to prove to be too much for Lee to handle. I think W&L big at home in this one.

7. Madison (-20) @ Robinson
- I hope Robinson won’t come into this one still riding the high of last week’s win because it could get ugly against a Madison team who is not known for running the score up. With that being said, Madison is clearly the better team and I believe they will win big on the road.

8. McLean @ Chantilly (-3)
- This one is a toss up game to me. Both teams coming in at 2-0 looking to go 3-0. I like Chantilly’s QB and they are also at home so my gut tells me to ride with the Chargers. However, it wouldn’t surprise me to see McLean win. (They won this game last year) Look for a very tight game.

9. Mount Vernon @ Stonewall Jackson (-3)
- Don’t know too much about PWC football as a whole, but Stonewall replaces Friendship Collegiate (DC) on Mount Vernon’s schedule so maybe they feel like they have a better chance to get a win in this one. But given the outcome of their game last week, I’m going to go with PWC over Fairfax. Stonewall wins a close one.

10. Osbourn Park @ Herndon (-24)
- Osbourn Park is a much smaller team than Herndon is and I think Herndon will completely dominate this game, much like they did last year. OP just doesn’t have the depth or talent to match up with Herndon. Just like last year, give me the Hornets big.

11. Stuart @ Marshall (-22)
- Stuart is in the same boat as Falls Church, unfortunately. Marshall has shown us that they can put up points (outscored their first 2 opponents 128-6) and I’m expecting them to do so again against a porous JEB defense. Look for the Statesmen to make another big statement at home this week.

12. T.C. Williams @ Forest Park (-10)
- Can the Titans break their 13 game losing streak this week is the big question. My knowledge on Forest Park is minimal but T.C. played Forest Park close last year and while they were young last year, they still have yet to show they’ve taken the step up needed to get wins. (It doesn’t help that they play in the Patriot District) Give me Forest Park at home.

13. Wakefield @ Yorktown (-28)
- Congrats again to Wakefield again on breaking their long losing streak last week but Yorktown has won the last 27 games in this series with their last loss to Wakefield coming in 1995 before any kids on either team were born. Expect the Patriots to make it 28 in a row this week. Yorktown wins big at home.

14. West Springfield @ South County (-3)
- Co-Game of the week. Both teams have been battle tested and both teams are looking for a win, that come down the stretch could make a huge difference in Patriot District standings and playoff seeding. I think the Stallions will come out with a bitter taste in their mouth after last week’s thumping and will find a way to get it done in a close one at home. But, don’t sleep on the Spartans either. Looking forward to this one!

15. Woodgrove @ Stone Bridge (-7)
- This game was cancelled last year and I have yet to see any of Woodgrove although they come in at 1-1 with 1 close win and 1 close loss. I think Stone Bridge rights the wrongs they’ve made in their first 2 games and Kedric Golston gets his first win as Head Coach at Stone Bridge.

16. Woodson @ Oakton (-6)
- Oakton’s lone win last year came on the road at Woodson and Oakton has shown that they have improved. I like Oakton to win their 2nd in a row at home this week.

I took Anacostia to win outright. Got both sides wrong. I thought the short week would be the difference, but Wakefield overcame. You can’t say that about the other short week team.
>
> 2. Chantilly (-35) @ Woodson

Took Chantilly to win and cover. Got this one half right. Woodson must feel like world beaters, given that they covered two weeks in a row.

Picked Stone Bridge to win and cover. Got both wrong.

Blew both sides of this pick.

Took Madison to win, but not to cover. Half right.

No pick with the spread >35 points.
>
> 7. McLean (-24) @ Lee

Took McLean to both win and cover. Half right.

I dodged a real bullet here. No pick because of the spread. I did think, unofficially of course, that Fairfax would struggle due to the short week. So my pick would have been Fairfax to win, but not cover. I do think the short weeek was a problem. Fairfax was in control at halftime, but faded down the stretch. That’s a sign of a tired team. Anyway, congratulations to Oakton on a great win.
>
> 9. Robinson (-3) @ South Lakes
> - Robinson won and covered, 27-6. South Lakes is
> potentially in for a long, long year.

Took South Lakes to win outright, which counts as a loss on both sides of the pick. Recency bias, with respect to both teams contributed to this.

Correctly picked QO to win and cover. One of the few I got right.

Took Colonial Forge to win, but not cover. Correct on both picks.

No pick, per > 35 spread rule.

Took West Po to win outright. In an otherwise dismal week, this was my best pick.

Correctly picked Westfield to win and cover.

Correctly picked Yorktown to win, but not cover. Yorktown was exposed last week, by failing to cover a measly 21 point spread against Woodson.

I’m going to say that the Oakton loss was a fluke, Fairfax bounces back, and wins outright.

So south Lakes is in for a long season, but they aren’t as bad as Falls Church. South Lakes wins and covers.

Lake Braddock wins and covers.

Edison isn’t a bad team. It’s a steal to get them AND get ten points, especially at home. Edison wins outright.

Lee may be improved, but they have a long ways to go. WL wins and covers.

Madison will win this game, but Robo’s improvement makes it hard to think they won’t keep it close. Madison wins, doesn’t cover.

Marshall wins and covers. I don’t think this spread is big enough.

I want to pick TCW, but I don’t see how I can. Forest Park wins and covers. I will promise to pick TCW sometime this season.

Yorktown should win easily, but two unimpressive wins against inferior teams is a cause for concern. Yorktown wins, doesn’t cover.

Woodson is riding high right now, given that they are on a two game streak of moral wins. Look for Oakton, buoyed by winning the upset of the century to come out pumped. Oakton end Woodson’ streak of moral victories. Oakton wins and covers.

Heard VHSL cleared More players , I coach locally and NO players were deemed ineligible they just hadn’t been cleared yet VHSL is making sure they check is all. Don’t forget with all Players mentioned it’s going to take time Overton is smart because he didn’t play anyone who wasn’t cleared yet .

Not a big fan of Overton’s but it was smart to hold out players that weren’t cleared, they would’ve had to forfeit that win if they didn’t hold those kids out who haven’t been cleared

lol… If it was up to Overton, he would have played them. Lol. Those guys have been enrolled for months now… why did they decide to hold them out the day of the first game?

This wasn’t Overton’s Decision. Central off administration has been consulting with the VHSL and Hayfield was told to hold these kids out.

That makes sense. Thanks for clearing up the confusion. So all the players will likely be eligible for the Annandale Atoms game.

About the Fairfax win being one of the biggest upsets in NOVA football history. It might be. IMO; one of the biggest upsets in the history of Oakton football was Oakton 17-7 over Robinson in 1998. Robinson was 2-0 (they were the defending State champs and were expected to repeat) and was ranked #1 in all the local papers and #2 in the Washington Post. The Rams cruised through their first two opponents while Oakton (who was also 2-0) eked out wins against their opponents. I was at that game. After the win, I had told someone that I believed that was the first time since the 1986 9-1 season (with JD Gibbs and Eugene Chung) that we beat Robinson. Their reaction would now be called a Dean scream. The next week, The Connection had on their front cover a picture of that game with (in big, bold letters) Upset!!! as the headline. Coach (Pete) Bendorf should've had that cover framed in his office like a deer's head. In the long term, Oakton finished 9-1 while Robinson finished 6-4 that year. One of my best memories.

Love to see the Oakton history posted on here. Reminder that MADISON HAS ZERO TITLES and will NEVER win one!!

Other notable Oakton upsets include 2012 against Centreville to win the region, 2016 against a stacked Tuscarora program.

Shame Jason Rowley and his staff basically quit on the program and destroyed its reputation within Oakton’s hallways by intimidating all the athletes from other sports (look at Oakton’s powerhouse lax and baseball programs).

With your prediction- is Madison’s second team playing the whole time? Madison’s D is going to wipe the floor with Robo tears. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, get out the bubble wrap. What’s your real prediction?

It happens every season around the county. Should be a sign to not hire coaches from the next school over with a terrible resume and nothing to bring to the table. Look at so many of the coaches. They leave schools because they don’t win, and the next school hires them. Smh.

There’s also a ton of schools in fairfax that just don’t have the talent… Look at Justice, Wakefield, Falls Church, Lewis,, I can keep going…

Former Oakton Athlete Here. One of the problems with Oakton is there is no youth football feeder program. VYI straight to Madison, and CYA goes kids end up at Chantilly or Westfield, along with kids not playing Youth football anymore.

I would imagine if you are a 'star' youth player in VYI and zoned towards Oakton, you would still end up at Madison.

Westfield is currently beating Lake Braddock 24-14 with 4 mins left in the game. Coach Doc is very overrated. Also, what’s up with rotating a different QB in every quarter? It’s clearly not working.

Concord District ranking through week 2

1. Madison 3-0
2. Chantilly 3-0
3. Westfield 2-1
4. Oakton 2-1
5. South Lakes 1-2
6. Centreville 1-2

After todays games I think this is currently where the concord district is looking in terms of rankings.

Oakton has been very surprising with their schedule could definitely see them getting at least 5 wins and playoff eligible.
Centreville is struggling once again not really sure what’s going on with them, shields could be on the hot seat.
South lakes looks like will have a down year but won’t be terrible.
Westfield looks good how good is still yet to be seen but a strong win over lake Braddock proves they’re easily going to be playoff eligible.
Chantilly looks great, much improved from last season can definitely see them making a run for the district title along with Westfield and Madison. Finally Madison. Just dominate they’re the clear favorite and are on pace to go finish 10-0 during the regular season.

Hayfield is a joke. If anyone thinks the best 35 players (and yes it’s 35) just magically showed up at Hayfield in less than a year and there’s nothing nefarious about it then they must be named Fritts or Thompson. They will win it all and in 2 years Hayfield will be playing a 6 game schedule. No one takes them seriously.

Being at this game, it was not difficult to notice that the senior QB has better game management skills and the offense moved the ball significantly better when he was playing. And they didn't rotate that much. The junior QB started the game, played 3-4 series and then didn't come back but for one set of downs in the fourth.

Week 2 Results

Heading off to a 2 day mini vacation with my son and granddaughter later today so I am doing the recap and next week's spreads now to get them out of the way. I think I did better this week but I am still not where I need to be in my mind. Let's recap:

1. Centreville (-3) @ Fairfax
- What I did not realize is this was Fairfax's Homecoming game, I probably would've given them the slight edge at home. Fairfax won this won with ease 29-6.

2. Falls Church @ South Lakes (-17)
- South Lakes gets their first win of the year with a 48-6 thumping of Falls Church.

3. Hayfield (-60) @ Annandale
- Hayfield dismantled Annandale, 65-0.

4. Lake Braddock (-3) @ Westfield
- Missed on this one. Westfield won 24-17, I'm not as sold as I was on Lake Braddock to begin the season. Westfield on the other hand seems to be turning things around.

5. Langley (-10) @ Edison
- Langley won and covered, 43-6.

6. Lee @ Washington-Lee (-27)
- W&L won and covered, 41-0.

7. Madison (-20) @ Robinson
- Madison won and covered, 37-7.

8. McLean @ Chantilly (-3)
- Chantilly gets the Homecoming victory, 28-13. Chantilly is now 3-0 on the year.

9. Mount Vernon @ Stonewall Jackson (-3)
- Stonewall Jackson won and covered, 26-14.

10. Osbourn Park @ Herndon (-24)
- Herndon wins big, 73-0 in this one.

11. Stuart @ Marshall (-22)
- Marshall won and covered, 56-14. They are also 3-0 but it's important to remember they have not really played anyone yet.

12. T.C. Williams @ Forest Park (-10)
- Forest Park won and covered, 25-0.

13. Wakefield @ Yorktown (-28)
- Make it 28 in a row in this series for Yorktown who won 38-16, but did not cover.

14. West Springfield @ South County (-3)
- South County won and covered, 43-25. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead and led for much of the first half until the Stallions said enough is enough. This game might have a big impact on Patriot District standings later down the road.

15. Woodgrove @ Stone Bridge (-7)
- Woodgrove won 8-7, sounds like this was a great game. I don't think Stone Bridge has ever started out 0-3 and it doesn't get any easier with their next 2 games.

16. Woodson @ Oakton (-6)
- Oakton won big, 42-7. I can't remember the last time the Cougars won by that big of a margin. 2 things come to mind based on this result,

Week 3
Posted by: parentof2 ()
Date: September 14, 2024 10:34AM

Every year I say this about the season, it just flies by! Some schools will be playing their 4th game of the year this week. Things around both 6C and 6D are starting to shape up and we are starting to see who can play, who can’t play, who has improved, etc. Let’s get into this week’s slate:

1. Annandale (-5) @ Falls Church
- This should be an intriguing National District game between 2 lower tier teams. I think Annandale is more talented and faster, not to mention they just finished playing state contender Hayfield. I like the Atoms on the road by at least a touchdown.

2. Edison @ McLean (-21)
- I think it’s clear now that this ins’t the Edison team of last year. Look for McLean to rebound this week at home.

3. Hayfield (-41) @ Chantilly
- 3-0 vs. 3-0. Hayfield is a different team than Chantilly. Big test for the Chargers and I think it will benefit them down the road but look for Hayfield to win big. Regarding the ineligible players for Hayfield, does anyone know if those kids are ineligible for the year? With or without the kids being held out, Hayfield wins big.

4. Herndon (-30) @ Wakefield
- Look for the Hornets to win big in consecutive weeks. I don’t think Wakefield will be able to keep up with Herndon in this one.

5. Marshall @ Madison (-20)
- Yes, Marshall is 3-0 but they haven’t really played anyone. Madison has won the last 16 in a row in this rivalry series with Marshall last winning in 2007. Madison will prove again to be too much for Marshall to handle. Give me the Warhawks big at home.

6. Mountain View (-24) @ Centreville
- Don’t know too much about Mountain View but they did beat Centreville with ease last year. They are coming off a bye week so I’m expecting them to go into Clifton and handle Centreville. I’m still not too big on the Wildcats, so they have a chance to show me something in this one.

7. Quince Orchard (-22) @ Stone Bridge
- The gauntlet continues for the Bulldogs with regional powerhouse Quince Orchard coming to town. Stone Bridge isn’t as bad as their 0-3 record shows but they are going up against a team that has more talent. Stone Bridge is in trouble this week.

8. Robinson @ Gainesville (-24)
- Something is brewing out there in Gainesville, they are turning into a very solid program. I think the Rams will be outmatched in this one. Look for a similar score from last week for Robinson.

9. South County (-9) @ Fairfax
- Another Patriot District game that will undoubtably have implications down the road. Remember last year South County dominated the regular season match up and Fairfax eliminated them in the playoffs. I think the Stallions get it done on the road, but this will be a good one.

10. South Lakes (-10) @ Mount Vernon
- One could argue that Mount Vernon will cover this spread based on their athleticism alone, but they also have a pretty good QB and receiver. With that being said, I think South Lakes got some confidence after beating Falls Church and I think they will take the trip across the county and continue their winning streak against National District competition. Give me the Seahawks by double digits on the road.

11. Stuart @ Langley (-38)
- Langley wins big in this one, nothing really else to say.

12. West Potomac @ Lake Braddock (-6)
- Co-Game of the week. Remember, West Potomac has only played one game so far this year so the film on them is limited. Lake Braddock is trying to get back to their winning ways after losing back to back games to tough Concorde teams. This is another game with crucial implications in the Patriot District. With that being said, I think the Bruins right the ship this week at home.

13. West Springfield (-10) @ Oakton
- I’m aware people will jump on me for this one. While there’s no doubt that Oakton is improving, West Springfield is the best team they will have faced yet and the Spartans will come into this one pissed after losing the lead and then losing big to South County. I like West Springfield in this one, but Oakton should put up some points.

14. Yorktown (-3) @ Washington-Lee
- Game of the week. This game will be played on Saturday at 1 PM. Another 3-0 vs. 3-0 game with Arlington County bragging on the line. The Liberty District seems to be very competitive again this year, so a win in this one for either team could go a long way. Yorktown historically has done well against W&L and I think Bruce Hanson will have his guys ready to go. Give me the Patriots on the road in a good one. Hopefully this game will be on NFHS!

CONCORDE DISTRICT RESULTS + MY RANKING
1. Madison (3-0) 37 – Robinson 7 [Warhawks must have taken it easy on the Rams. Madison has only allowed 22 points in first 3 games]
2. Westfield (2-1) 24 – Lake Braddock 17 [Bulldogs scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to wrest this game from the Bruins]
3. Chantilly (3-0) 28 – McLean 13 [Chargers flip the script – they lost this game to the Highlanders 28-14 last season] *
4. Fairfax 29- Centreville 6 (1-2) [Wildcats lost to the Lions by 26 points last season… so improvement?] **
5. Oakton (2-1) 42 – Woodson 7 [Cougars pound the hapless Cavaliers – nice, but this game was their only win last season] ***
6. South Lakes (1-2) 46 – Falls Church 6 [Seahawks get their first win of the season… but it’s against the Jaguars]
* Moved Chantilly down one spot. I was at the Chantilly game last week and the Westfield game this week so got to see both live in person. Westfield has a lot of pieces on offense – if they continue to improve like the last few weeks they will be putting pressure on defenses
** Huh. Clifton may be looking at another 2-8 season. If they don’t get past Oakton in two weeks it's to the bottom of the rankings
*** Interesting result, but I will withhold judgement until I see how Oakton handles Concorde District play

I'd love to rank the other districts in the area but I am just not very familiar with the teams like I am with the Concorde.

That game could go either way this year. One of the oldest local rivalries still around which adds an interesting dimension. I looked it up, and the game will stream for free on HUDL TV (not NFHS).
