if you haven't noticed, we live in a very diverse area and with diversity in people comes diversity in cars! being at mason for summer classes, i see everything from 15 year old honda's to boxster porsche's! there is every type of car i've seen on and off the road with young and old drivers behind the wheel - so really to answer your question, they drive all types! you can have a kid at nova driving a m5, believe it or not - and you can have a kid at mason driving a '89 corolla!

I noticed an abundance of v70 and 850 wagons @ VCU... not lacal though.. just wierd..

What cars do kids drive to universities?
Not sure why it really matters, but as mentioned above, we are in such a diverse area, it is ANY type of car.
Most young adults drive whatever their parents (or older siblings) handed down. Or if lucky, bought them new. Actually, it seems that more and more, young folks are driving new cars. At least that is how it seems in my area of FFX.
Smart kids ride motorcycles to class, as they generally get MUCH better parking places and it is a lot more fun going to/from class ;-) At least that was my excuse...

It may be a parent trying to dial down some demand from their kids. They may be saying "everyone drives a BMW at college" or something. I"d say make them buy their own car if they don't want the family clunker.
