Anyone recommend a good place that repairs freezers?

The freezer is cold but not as cold usual, maybe I need some freon? Any place you can recommend that is good and won't charge an arm and a leg?

No info on model given or anything so we'll all assume it is pretty new and under warranty. You should call the manufacturer to have it fixed under warranty. If all of those assumptions are wrong then maybe provide more info.

Sorry, it is a Maytag and is 11 years old, not under warranty.

Have you tried cleaning the coils on the back of the freezer? Accumulated dirt/dust can do a real number on the cooling efficiency. Give that a try before you call in the pros, it could save you a few bucks.

Thanks, I did do that first. It did help but not as much as I would have liked, which makes me think it needs freon.

11 years old, I would just go buy a new one. A repair guy is going to start around $150 just to show up. You can get a new freezer for $300

Have you checked the seal?

No, how would I go about doing that?

There's a rubber strip around the inside edges of the door(or lid) that should make
the freezer airtight when it's closed. If there's any dry rot or warping you'll lose the efficiency.

Just something simple you could check before stroking a check for a $75 service call

Very good suggestions before you call for help. You may get some help from the Sears' parts store, in event you need only a nickle and dime part. Finally, if all else fails, Sears may be able to help with repair visit.

To check the seal you simply move your hand around the door and see if you can find a spot where cold air seems to be escaping.

One place you can go for parts and a small amount of online help is repairclinic.com I've used them in the past. If you want someplace local for parts I believe Tribble's is still in business.
