Black deaths in firearms related homicides has been a major problem for years. Decades even. Most of these are black on black cases. Less well publicized though is the high homicide death rate among native Americans. In certain cultures within the United States it has become acceptable for people to resolve their problems with gun violence.
Floyd and similar cases focused much needed light on one narrow type of that violence, police violence directed against blacks. If the U.S. wants to reign in firearms related violence then equal attention needs to be paid to all other types of firearms related violence. Use of firearms to kill, injure or threaten people outside of vary limited circumstances should not be tolerated. Those who commit it, whites, blacks, native Americans, native born citizens or immigrants, disgruntled employees who may or may not have legitimate beefs with their employers, police and veterans as well as civilians should be held fully accountable. Until Americans commit to that kind of across the board approach to gun violence without exception, the problem will continue.
