I am a soco parent and went to the game in the spring. The soco defense is much worse than it was last year. Madison is still good on both sides of the ball. I guess rollander can’t sustain the success Pannoni had especially with spalding leaving after this year.

Nah, that's not it all. Madison has hands down the best offensive line in northern virginia. I wasn't talking about just the holding calls anyway. The Robo fan earlier in this thread nailed it. Frankly, I have noticed SoCo getting calls for quite a few years now. I think it warrants some investigation. Maybe the Oscar Smith nutcase was accidentally right about the state game. Anyway, congrats to the Warhawks - getting to states has been a long journey for the program and they finally made it.

This is two years in a row where the officiating has been one-sided in favor of South County. And the calls all seem to negate big plays. Last year there was the phantom PI call at the end of the game. This has to be more than a coincidence.

I guess the refs couldn't help SoCo enough this year.

Nobody cares but you. Wasn’t like it was at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Let’s see what happens next week. Battlefield exposed some weaknesses in that vaunted defense. Madison will take notice. They won’t win but it will be a better game than 49-10.

Oscar Smith is like a small Alabama. Kids are huuuuge and the skilled players are sick. The recruiting did really well. Noooo way all that team is from one area. It is a ridiculously deep, talented high school football team. No idea how they can put a team like that together without being investigated. Lol. Kudos.

Nice to see the sportsman ship on spalding. He is a great player and if the coach had a better game plan and got him involved from the start the game would’ve been much closer.

I did not get a chance to watch any games yesterday, so if anyone that watched could break down what went down in the games that would be awesome. (Mostly South County, Stone Bridge and Oscar Smith). Thanks guys.


1. Broad Run @ Salem (-5)
- Broad Run won 28-24. Sounds like a good game, Salem is no slouch. Broad Run is my favorite to win Class 4 on Saturday.

2. Battlefield @ Oscar Smith (-17)
- Oscar Smith won 49-10. Again, just too much talent on that team.

3. Highland Springs @ Stone Bridge (-8)
- Stone Bridge gets it done at home, 28-26, they did not cover. I figured they would at least cover at home. Makes you wonder how much different this game would've been if it was played in Highland Springs.

4. Maury (-6) @ Green Run (NEUTRAL GAME)
- Maury was victorious 35-7.

5. South County @ Madison (-7)
- Madison won 28-6. What the hell happened here?! Saw it was 28-0 at halftime. Looks to me like South County did not come prepared. Wow.

Well guys. we have finally arrived at the final week of the 2021 HS football season. Congrats to all the teams that are still playing football this week. Last year we had a rarity where all six State Champs had an undefeated record. That can’t happen this year, nor do I think it will every happen again. Oh, I am also proof-reading this week before I press post to ensure I end my 2 week streak of having a typo in my posts lol. Here we go…


Class 1: Galax v. Riverheads (-21)
- Game is being played at Salem HS at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are consistently representing Class 1 in the championship. Riverheads has won the last 5 (yes, FIVE!) State Championships in a row, so I’m going with them to win big.

Class 2: King William v. Graham (-7)
- Game is being played at Noon at Salem HS. Not familiar with either team, so I’m going with Graham.

Class 3: Phoebus v. Liberty Christian (-5)
- Game is being played at 4:30 at Liberty University, so this is basically a home game for LC. Not even sure how a private school is allowed to compete against all public schools but I digress. Phoebus’ only loss came to Smith, and it was ugly. LC has beaten up all the public schools in the Lynchburg area. This is actually an intriguing match-up, Phoebus is not bad by any means. Give me the private school to win at home in a close one.

Class 4: Varina v. Broad Run (-8)
- Game is being played at Noon at Liberty University. Broad Run is looking for their first Ring since they won two of them back-to-back in ’08 and ’09. I think they will ultimately get it done, they have a lot of talent, a good line, and a good quarterback. It’s still crazy to me how bad Stone Bridge beat them, luckily they’re playing Varina. Rooting for Broad Run. (NOVA!)

Class 5: Maury v. Stone Bridge (-9)
- Game is being played at 4:30 at ODU. Interestingly enough, Maury is the last team to defeat SB. (2019 Championship game) After 23 straight wins for Stone Bridge, they meet again. This SB team, led by Jacob Thomas, might be one of the better SB teams I have watched and they’re consistently good. As I have pointed out, their only weakness, if you even want to call it that, is their line play. Not familiar with Maury this year, I know they had quite a few games cancelled early in the year. Regardless, I like Stone Bridge to go back-to-back. (NOVA!)

Class 6: Madison v. Oscar Smith (-17)
- Game is being played at Noon at ODU, which is basically a home game for Smith. I don’t think it matters where this game is being played though, this is a special Smith squad. Talent all over the place. Madison is very senior heavy and those seniors (Connor, Jreige, Hurley, etc.) all need to step up and lead by example and it starts with practice all this week. The Warhawks will need to play a perfect game and have a few things luckily go their way. At the end, I think Smith wins. As I’ve said, just too much power. I hope Madison can keep is close and as always, I’m rooting for the NOVA team.

Saw the first half of Madison-South County on NFHS. Madison totally dominated them on both sides of the ball and it wasn't even close. South County had I think on first down and maybe 40-50 yards of offense in the first half. Madison used both the run and the pass to set up their scores. I did not see the second half since I tried to watch some of the other games.

Unsportsmanlike conduct: you mean Battlefield coaches deciding not to participate in the pregame ceremony of team introductions and meeting for the coin toss? The refs had to go fetch the team captains to come out from behind the buses. The Coaches didn't even come out for it!!! That is about as low class as I have seen. I doubt the VHSL will allow such a show of misconduct next week!! How can coaches teach their players to respond in a big game this way?? I guess it seems appropriate for Northern VA school kids to be overly protected so they don't get triggered. How did that turn out for them?

Neither team came out for the National Anthem, which I don't like & VHSL needs to remedy that IMHO.

You need to be more specific on your claims. I only saw Battlefield players trying to start fights. AND a horrendous face mask which wasn't called along the Smith Sidelines. The kid ONLY grabbed the helmet to throw the receiver out of bounds! But, Smith has learned to deal with the opposition's antics. They have seen it all & THEIR discipline was the only thing preventing an all out brawl from occurring! How about #12!!?? Four times he tried his damn best to get a Smith player to swing on him & the refs only went as far to give an offsetting penalty on 1 case when he was actually on top of the much smaller Smith Defender on a kickoff!!!??? He is a great example of game discipline and sportsmanship, right?

As far as playing assignment football with TEAM discipline, that is outright laughable. From the start, it's a poor premise from a team that allowed 41 points vs a very average Patriot team late in the season AND barely beat the 4-6 J. Champe team? PLEASE? The Battlefield coaches made the decision to role the corners to over play the flats and cover Smith's wide running plays without thinking about what to do with the back side safety or pealing the LB to help out on the hashes? They NEVER came over with their horrendous eye discipline and inability to read those plays correctly. Given the score, YOU clearly don't understand the terms you choose!

Transfers, recruiting, investigations, so tired of an excuse. Create a team that kids WANT to play for it & they will. Not difficult to understand. No need to recruit. I have mentioned this before and even FFU followers admit the biggest shortcoming IS the drop off in participation of youth football up there. On the other hand, SMITH's feeder programs are developing National and Regional Championships!!! 757Colts and VaBeach Mustangs have huge community support AND they support Smith Football. That did not occur under Richard Morgan!!! What is staggering to comprehend is the fact that these programs are producing even better kids that don't attend Smith. The VERY best players are transferring to IMG & St. Francis Academy!!! Desmond Ricks is the #1 DB in the '24' Class. He was enrolled @ Smith until Covid shut down the Fall 2020 season. There are at least 6 other kids that would be playing for Smith or Maury if they attended school locally!!! This year, there could have been a DB set of 4 & 5 Star recruits, S. Covil, A. Brown, an D. Ricks!!! imagine THAT!!

BTW, the field WAS NOT an issue, you are just grabbing at baseless issues because it's easier than admitting what happened to Battlefield yesterday. I saw a 1sq yard spot on the field which had been worked. That was it. Their Giant S looked pristine as the rest of the field was for a Bermuda Grass Field. How about admitting that most every Battlefield player brought only Turf Shoes? Smith's WR, Speed players broke so many ankles yesterday, you would have thought Allen Iverson was playing vs Shaq out there!

However, There may be light at the end of the season for the other teams. With 26 seniors graduating in the Spring, Smith will again be a very young team. But, I have stopped being surprised by the improvement in their talent year after year. Next year will be an opportunity but I won't make that a promise either!

I wonder who Oscar Smith will schedule for their national game next year? Bosco was too much but they can easily compete with say a top Miami area school, or a Georgia school. Hell, I’d love to see them play SFA or DeMatha.

Strength schedules like polls have limited value. You can only play the teams on your schedule. Madison handily beat every class 6 team in NoVa.

-That is true but I look at the schedule of schools that are just non traditional football schools like Marshall that has a killer schedule versus LB, Robo, Centerville, Westfield, and SoCo. Those five should play every year. Maybe throw in Battlefield, Tusco, and Stonebridge.

Chase Soper is a good athlete, not so much a good QB. He doesn't throw the ball well enough, he is more of a runner. He may play receiver or DB at a P5 lower level school, but not QB.

It sounds like you think Madison is the new Westfield & by playing Smith that the same outcome will occur!!?? Madison is no where near those Westfield teams.. Better Coaches, better schemes, better athletes.

I can only tell Madison fans that their expectations have been fraudulently elevated by playing a very week Class 6 schedule! Smith's Strength of schedule score is 2-3 times tougher than EVERY Class 6 opponent Madison battled. AND, Madison couldn't score vs Stone Bridge! How do you think it will be different vs a team that only allowed 3.5 points per game against VHSL teams?

How bad do you have to be to lose to a team that draws their plays out in the dirt by 62-21, or 49-10, or to SMITH by any score? Damn, your gonna feel bad Sarurday cause you have zero idea about how Smith won those games so easily!

Final score will be OS 56-Madison 7. OS will be on a running clock to start the second half and Madison can go home saying they at least played for a title once in the 62 years they've been a program. Fucking pathetic.

Hoping Stone Bridge crushes Maury. Same with Broad Run in their game. Loudoun football > Fairfax, Chesapeake, Majority of Richmond... #truth. VA Preps is super legit, I’d be surprised if a few ppl that post on here DON’T have acct’s.

Maury is not liked in the 757 anymore than the rest of the State. But, expect that game to be slugfest. Maury shut down Green Run's WR group of D1 recruits.

If they get the same refs from Northern VA that covered that Highland Springs game, I expect there'll be some possible double or even triple unsportsmanlike penalties for excessive celebrations against Maury! On youtube, I saw a kickoff from the receiving teams own 25 yard line & a couple of weeks ago, Smith ended up kicking off from their own 25 yard line!

Yep... he will use the FCPS player transfer like the college transfer portal
He will have a bunch of transfers come in to help get the program on a winning track. Expect to see lots of new faces at Woodson.

Just an average FFU Troll, just like everyone else. I especially enjoy seeing how things for Northern VA football continues slipping away just as I had predicted it would happen! Madison is left playing every team they can BUT ended up with a strength of schedule of 8.

That's pitiful and most of you have recognized it but now it's too late! Last week, Battlefield with almost 3,000 students couldn't put together a competitive team? This week will be just more of the same. A bunch of kids wondering why Smith didn't crumble like their Coaches had promised!

Oscar smith only played 2 6A teams in the regular season, and only one had a winning record. The rest of their schedule is 3A, 4A, and 5A teams. How the hell does the math work out for their strength of schedule?

...because even though they are lower in classification, if the other teams have wins and the teams they play have wins... strength of schec. goes up... plus in power points you get bonuses by playing down classifications.

...so NoVa teams basically beat the crap out of each other for average records except for a few schools and those schools are down rated on strength of schedule.

Plus... let's face it, NoVa schools are crap athletically... so the outcome is obvious.

This is BS. Madison is basically playing an all-star team from the South in Oscar Smith. If they keep it reasonably close, what does that tell you?

There is no difference in athleticism between the North and South. The North wins plenty of state championships in football and other sports.

Ya boy S. Covil got his All-American jersey yesterday after practice. That’s pretty good shit, wish the best for the young man after this week. He is a baller, I’m surprised he stuck with Clemson though.

Henderson is used to having a lot of talented athletes like he had at WP Hayfield, they don't have that at Woodson. He will need to bring in some talent via the transfer portal.

Last year's starting QB was very small and doesn't throw or run very well to fit the offense Henderson likes to run. Maybe get a new QB transfer. They do have a few athletes at receiver that could help and a pretty good RB. A few new coaches and players added will help the rebuilding of the program and maybe get 1or2 more wins this coming season.

This could be a good hire for Woodson, last years coaches seem to worry more about players having a good time and participating then winning games

Decided to watch Stone Bridge vs Madison, Aug 27th game. Boy, Madison has problems.. Their very predictable with their formations. Overload formation & that's where the ball is going. Double backs in shotgun, they're going to pass. On Defense, SB beat them on 1st down on nearly every series. Madison got beat on deep pass plays, off tackle & up the Middle.. They NEVER put any pressure on the SB QB & made it easy for him. I don't see the team, assignment and disciplined football that Northern VA likes to tout!!?? If Stone Bridge hadn't been playing so consevatively, they'd put up 50 on Madison.
