There is within today's liberalism a branch that believes that struggle should no longer be necessary. Despite all the talk about rugged individualism the scourge of me-ism affects many conservatives as well. A belief society should be governed by rules which makes having to fight for them to be accepted, to go as far as their talents will carry you, and to not have to worry about those following behind them taking what they acquired. You don't like the rules that you are being forced to live and compete under, join the club. It is not possible in a society consisting of more than one person to order society in a way that each person will feel they are subjectively treated fairly.

If FCPS was building a new high school today, even with a full unbiased view of history, they would not be naming it Woodson. They would not be naming it Lee. They would not be naming it as Stuart. It isn't just that our view of them has changed. It is also that their role in shaping the society we live in has been diminished. We as a society tear down buildings that no longer suit our needs. We tear up woods and farmlands when we have a better use for them. Yet for some reason changing the name of a school erected fifty years ago is taboo. Sure there are better uses for the resources.
