Fried Chicken/NC Pork bbq

Now looking for good fried chicken (no popeyes/kfc crap). Just got back from OBX and stopped at a place called Muddy Boots on 168 right before the VA line. Great pulled pork/fried chicken/mac & cheese. Sweet tea was awesome as were the hush puppies. Anything remotely close to the BBQ and Chicken one can find down in NC here?

Bubbas BBQ in Fairfax.

It's only once a year, but I've gotten great NC-style pulled pork sandwiches from the Herndon Optimist Club tent at the Herndon Festival.

Dixie Bones in woodbridge

I don't think they had fried chicken at Dixie Bones, but I'll second this recommendation, it's the best BBQ I've had in the DC area.

I had some great southern BBQ in South Carolina near Charleston.

But around here, best place is whatever the BBQ place is next to the expo center on Willard Rd.

I grew up in NC and have been disappointed with every BBQ I have tried up here, including Willards. Never heard of Levi's, but it sounds worth checking out though.

Next time you are going down 95 in NC, take the exit for Wilson and go into town. I worked in that town for a few years right out of college and they have two very good places that have both chichen and BBQ. In Greensboro, where I am from, I never saw fried chicken on the menu.

Better yet, go to Lexington NC. That is the BBQ capital of NC.

Good luck

For the record, we ate at Dixie Bones yesterday and can't say I'd recommend it. Then again, I never found smoked meat all that great. The mac and cheese was atrocious by all accounts. Willards and Levi's are next on my list.

I really prefer VA BBQ to NC. If you're in Richmond- try Bill's BBQ. Its great !

Best BBQ hands down in this area, is Dixie Bones BBQ right off US Rt 1, 2 blocks sourth of Rt 123 in Prince Wm. county.

There used to be a place in Burke (the old shopping center that time forgot about w/ the overpass that went in @ Burke Rd.). The place had amazing ribs and potatoes/spicy spuds. The guy who owned it practically lived there. He died in the early 90's, and so went his BBQ place with it.
