At the moment, China’s carrot diplomacy is working better than the stick the US used to implement it’s own. Why do people persist in believing the US is some infallible benevolent power that shouldn’t be questioned?

For instance, many in Latin America view the United States as an oppressive and tyrannical empire that seeks to undermine regional democracies and exploit their nation's resources. They have good reason to think that considering our history in the region. China has invested billions in to these countries and helped construct roads, hospitals and soccer stadiums to win the good will of the people. We are definitely losing the PR war in our own backyard.
