I've always been owed so I know nothing about paying. Do I just take some money and set it aside? Or will they take it out of what I'm owed from when I was working?

Did you first have to fill out an application through VEC or did you go straight to the PUA site gov.go or something like that?

If you didn't have taxes withheld or you had inadequate taxes withheld, you pay the additional tax in quarterly estimated tax payments using a form 1040ES for the Federal taxes and a form 760ES for Virginia taxes. Normally the Federal due dates are April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15 of the following year. This year though the Federal payments due before July 15 have been deferred to July 15.

You are required to pay in through timely estimated taxes and withholdings the lesser of 90% of your current year (2020) tax liability or 100% of your previous year (2019) tax liability, unless like me you are considered high income and have to pay in 110% of your previous year tax liability. If you come up a little short it isn't that big a deal, currently around 4% of the underpayment. The bigger danger is not having the money to pay the taxes come next April 15.

Well, it definitely would be way easier if they'd taken out taxes at once but I don't think there gonna be huge troubles with it. I think you will be invoiced someday and that's it. It won't be an issue to pay them even if you don't have enough money at the moment. Just look through an article here and choose a credit card you find the most suitable for you.
