Birds are surprisingly high needs pets. They all have very distinct personalities just like people do. Some are more outgoing than others are. We had a budgie that was friendly as can be and wanted to be out of his cage hanging out with us on the couch, in bed, wherever we happened to be. Once I was answering the door for a pizza delivery person and that bird came flying out of the living room and perched on my shoulder as I paid the driver - he just had to meet the person at our door. Very nosy, confident little cuss. I got a parrot as a second bird and that parrot didn't have half the personality of our little budgie - she was sort of aloof and grumpy, tbh.
I've also had a very tame hamster who would curl up and sleep on my shoulder as I watched t.v. and guinea pigs who would jump and squeal every time I walked in the room - they loved attention and treats.
I now have 3 dogs and I totally adore them. I'd have a cat, too, but my pups don't like cats. Animals are awesome.
