Well it looks like Mason won't go to the big dance this year in basketball. Their only hope was to win the CAA tourny and VCU closed that door last night.
It looks VCU and ODU will go, no George Mason this year! So I guess we can say last years basketball was a fluke.

I am not a huge George Mason fan but they had lots of seniors last year, Tony Skinn and Jai Lewis especially. That is one upside to Mid-Major basketball, the players don't usually jump to the NBA...that allowed GMU to have a veteran team last year that made it to the Final Four!
In a few years if GMU still gets TV coverage then recruits might sign to play at GMU so that they can be seen and scouted by pro teams. Jim Larranaga is still a great coach and will be another reason players would want to play there.
Mason missed by one game? Patriot's were 9-9 in their conference, 18-15 out for the season. They lost in the CAA weekend tournament as expected.

It is no fluke to get to the final four. You play too many teams to luck your way into it.
Even in pro sports championship teams can finish dead last the next year.
I give GMU credit for last year. It gave people something positive to talk about and forget for a minute the crappy traffic, high cost of living, losing Redskins and other assorted things that bring you down each day.

Looks like they will be going the same way the U of A went when they won then lost the NCAA.. Funny thing is GMU wouldn't allow me to enroll because I wasn't "An outstanding athlete".
