I won't have to water my tomatoes for 3 days with all this rain. Nice.

Ok, but why do the farmers markets around here say that they'll have green tomatoes "maybe next week"??

Since tomatoes are green before they're red, I'd expect the red ones to be harder to come by than the green!

What in the shucks am I missing here?

(I only ask that to give the audience a chance to reply with really clever come-uppances!)

Those aren’t tomatoes , they are melons.

My tomatoes are doing well this season due to a special compost and soil mixture. You can use regular potting soil, but there’s a secret ingredient: drink 2 cups of coffee while eating prunes, then throw some Kodiak or Copenhagen in your lip. The diarrhea that will follow can be sprayed directly at the base of the plant, and helps them grow very quickly.

regular old urine works just fine... some anthropologists postulate that the act of urinating on plants and exposing the shoots led to epiphany now known as the agricultural revolution

Coffee grounds and egg shells make good compost additions. Used cooking oil is typically useful as well. Turn it all in and let it percolate.

I like to fertilize my "tomatoes" with leftover mash from my brewing and shining. Fermentation takes out a lot of nitrates though so urine and raw chicken scraps round out the mixture nicely.

Heh, heh...you said "exposing the shoots".

@Tom A. Tows Tomatoes come in many varieties, including "green tomatoes." These tomatoes will never turn red, even when ripe. I believe they are used in a lot of cooking.

This is my first year growing tomatoes in the ground, and my yellow "Sunburst" tomatoes are doing excellent in the crappy clay soil!!!

That's interesting. Thanks for that!

I enjoy "breading" the green ones in almond flour (with S&P& cayenne) and frying them. Yum!

Hope your yellow Sunbursts come out well!
