But you can get a degree in African American Studies and minor in Ebonics.

The problem with student loan debt is that the federal government is a predatory lender. They make and guarantee loans (SBA and student) where the likelihood of repayment is small. Then they pursue the borrowers for repayment.

Any rationale lender would recognize that although some degrees result in jobs and careers, others do not. By looking at the employment history of graduates degrees with a negative NPV can readily be identified. Those degrees should not be eligible for government guaranteed loans.

Other degrees result in few graduates obtaining jobs. Those should be ineligible for guaranteed loans as well.

By taking a common sense approach, we can change the federal government from a predatory lender to an organization that helps put students on the path to financial stability and success.

That's not really predatory lending.

There's really nothing to be gained if the borrower defaults or is a slow pay.

Unlike a home mortgage, where there is significant collateral.

And so, predators would in fact be motivated to make questionable loans, knowing there is an asset to be had in the balance.
