Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Hard Times likely had trouble competing with some of the trendy newbies that brew their own beer.
Chubby Squirrel is very decent, as is High Side. Ornery Beer Company is also pretty good. Glory Days just outside the city has also mastered the family friendly sports bar.
You can't be mediocre in a high rent area and survive...
Back in the day when I did shift work and would have random days of the week off, I used to swing on by Hard Times on King Street. Usually a good selection of music playing (old Hank), I’d have a couple of Shiner Bocks and a spicy chicken wrap. Good stuff.

Hillary is about the only Dem not running. They are up to what, 27 people running???? Another example of how leaderless the Democrats are.
Notice this and all the other restaurants in Fairfax City, that couldn't cut it despite the city councils decision to build, build, build? And wonder why the traffic hampered the constant volume restaurants required. Not the brightest bunch on the city council.
Socialists and their City meals tax killed it, like they kill everything they infect. Fairfax city is a shitstain of ugly offices, unplanned development, and dead strip malls.

The meals tax is a big part of it. Also the city stupidly jumped the shark and is now closed restaurants, payday loans, and car dealerships. Oh traffic. The people sitting in office need to be voted out. Or perhaps the city should just be part of the county to save itself.

The Meals tax doesn't explain why plenty of decent restaurants are thriving in City of Fairfax. Tastes change and the game has been upped as to what restaurants need to deliver these days.
The city placed a 4% tax on meals. On a $50 tab, it comes to $2. If you're going to pick another restaurant based on a $2 difference, then OK, wow.
What gets us out of the city for our dining quite often is Glory Days at the PanAm Shopping Center. Kids are addicted to their mac & cheese, desserts, and face painting. That and they have Boomerang on one of the TVs. And it's right next to an upscale Safeway if you're inclined to grab groceries before or after.
City of Fairfax doesn't really have an answer to that.

Are plenty of decent restaurants thriving in Fairfax City? I wouldn't know. And it has nothing to do with the meals tax. I am in Fairfax City for work easily once a week, but taking more than a half hour for lunch doesn't fit my agenda. As for dinner, between traffic, parking and Fairfax City's annoying ticket policies it isn't worth going to Fairfax City when there are a number of restaurants that are as good that are more convenient for me.
I usually follow the rule that it isn't the individual taxes that concern me, but rather the total tax burden. Fairfax City even with the meals tax isn't that bad, unlike Fairfax County which was proposing a meals tax on top of already above surrounding jurisdiction cummulative taxes. That said if I wanted to grab a quick bite at a fast food place or was going grocery shopping, why would I stop at a place in Fairfax City when I could just as easily hit a place in the County and get the same stuff for the same price without paying a meals tax.
Easy, horrible traffic patterns which contribute to unbearable congestion and inconvenient parking. Couple that with Douchenozzle cops following you out of a bar parking lot has kept me out of Fairfux Shitty for years. Fuck that place and all the progressive retards that live there. If it wasn't for the court house and GMU there, it would look worse than Manassas Park.
If I want Hard Times, there are other locations that do not have the excessive meals tax you get charged in the City of Fairfax. I will spend $3 worth of gas to avoid paying the City of Fairfax an extra $2 meal tax fee.
They really destroyed ffx city! Used to be a great strip to go after working(I worked during the coke days of mortgage banking). Just a strip. Then fucking bridges came. Margarita Maggie’s changed owners. Denny’s next to pj skidoo’s on a radio station night! Now it’s a ton of sand nigger types and illegal Central Americans! Developing the post office area fucked that town. Every time I drive thru there, it’s like Disney came all over the place. Black eyed pea! Great pussy there!
Hard Times Café was experiencing some Hard Times and as a result closed up...Due Hard Times. Nuf Said.
Yes, Liberals have indeed destroyed this once great county.
The idiot above that keeps pasting that "Vote with your Actions Everyday" is just an major idiot moron. Anyone, at this point in our history beliefs the corrupt Clinton Cartel would have made a positive difference in the world is just a flaming fkng IDIOT.
This bar was my go to spot for a quickie. I am referring to cop lingo, an easy DUI! I would have my unmarked Malibu in the parking lot and wait for some drunk asshole to come out and then follow him or her and pull them over for "driving erratically". My quota was always on time.
It takes a real man to serve in harms way. Most of the posters on this site are pansy assed libtards that could not have performed your job for one shift without shitting their pants.

If a DC popo arrests 1 drunk driver, that's his quota for the month. How many drunk drivers do the FFXCO popo have to arrest in a month to meet their quota?

Depends on your shift. A night shift would be 2 a month. The more the better though to get promoted to the next rank. I once had 12 in one summer month back in 2002.

That's how restaurants shut down. It's an industry standard because if you tell your staff the restaurant is closing they'll all quit, and if they don't there's risk of theft and poor service.
Literally thousands of businesses shuttered during BHO reign.
We’re slowly seeing recovery now that Trump is in office. A gifted businessman that has so far strategically ignited the economy. It drives libtards crazy how well he is doing. Hard Times had lousy servers and the menu was sub par. Not at all surprised that place shuttered.

That would sound about right. Finding drunk drivers to arrest in D.C. has to be spearing fish in a barrel. If you can't nab one in a month while you're on the street writing parking tickets in a bar neighborhood in D.C., you're doing something wrong. Plus in D.C. the popo have the added advantage they can pull you over if you don't use a seatbelt, which the popo can't do in VA. I would bet that half the drunks forget to put on their seatbelt.
FFXCO is big enough and has enough places that serve alcohol that you probably have places there where nabbing drunks is like spearing fish in a barrel, too. Plus, you can nab what slips by the Popometropo, the popoArlco and the Alexpopo
I'm not complaining, understand. The popo in general has no problem arresting drunk drivers. It is what the courts won't do that pees me off. The courts won't revoke these guys' licenses. You do your job, you arrest them and send them to the prosecutor. After that, all you can do is show up for court and testify you nabbed the guy, but you have no control over what the prosecutor and the judge do.
Oh, boo fucking hoo! The owner, Rich Kelly is gross, Jabba The Hut look alike creep. Handsy with the girls, groping the staff, overall horrible person. I hope he loses all of his $$$$
