Back in the day I had a Sunbeam Tiger, 289 HiPo, solid lifters, high CFM carb, high throughput exhaust manifold, short throw shifter, AND the best mufflers ever made -- came off of a 302 Maverick. About 1 foot long, with a pipe going straight through them. That pipe had holes in the side; at low RPMs enough of the exhaust was redirected into the muffler to keep it quiet. At high RPMs none was redirected at all; with no exhaust restriction it was like having no muffler at all.

They need a muffler like that.

Best car I ever owned. 20 mpg and a eleven second quarter. Bad ass for the times.
