In my neighborhood the trash company has had such a hard time getting and keeping workers that it is not unusual for them to dump the trash and recyclables in the same truck. Plus what they can get for recycled materials is peanuts.

Why separate bottles and jars from our regular trash if they are all going to the same landfill?

Makes single-stream separation easier/better to the extent that it's done.

If only we had a technology to remove debris from glass. We could call it rinsing maybe. We could use this to clean other things as well.
