By late in the afternoon yesterday, we were able to enjoy a string of six deer scampering in ones and twos across the road from the north, then bounding up the hill into the side yard, from there making their way across the property and off into the stands of pines at the far western end. Always nice to see those fellas and gals underway, so here's hoping that we have such luck as to see them once again today.

In other news, there's still no real other news. It does appear that MLB has now agreed that minor leaguers will receive a whopping $400 per week through the end of May or until the MiLB season starts. This is just more 'Pack the Pews' nonsense from the likes of Manfred, but the four hudred bucks is at least something. Meanwhile, some folks (e.g. 26-year old AJ Reed) have read the writing on the wall and chosen to retire rather than be any longer dependent upon the whims of such an arbitrary and mediocre group as MLB. Can't say as I blame them.

And mediocre is of course an ambition for so many of these dunkin' donuts from Falls Church City. Having been left in the deep fat fryer a little too long, any semblance of a brain that they might once have had was effectively cooked out long ago. Many of them have been seriously over-sprinkled as well. Still they stutter and stammer their queer and quixotic ways here, oblivious to the realities that make them look so foolish. Sucks to be them, as always.

Indeed I was there and posted about it at the time. Eat more shit, asshole. By the way, we've now gotten refunds for nearly all of the services not used in West Palm Beach due to the Spring Training shutdown. The only exception now is re tickets on March 13 and later at FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. Those for some reason take six to eight weeks to process. Refunds From Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter are already in hand.

Well, the forum took a bit of a beating overnight, and one of our downspouts is currently taking a bit of beating from one of our local woodpeckers. But these simple noise-making episodes tend simply to pass away in the long tun like so many posts from the puerile. Meanwhile, NWS has another reasonably nice day lined up for those of us able to practice our social distancing out here in the grand old Sweet Spot. There's nothing quite like it at any time of year, but it's about to enter one of its most impressive phases. Can't wait! It was in any case just 41 degrees around sunrise this morning, but we'll be using these current AM hours to climb up into the 50's and from there, we'll make it halfway to the 60's before all is said and done. Overnight showers did give us about a quarter inch of rain, but the last of those has cleared out by right about now, and we should have at least partial sunshine from here on. All that will set up the arrival of a nicer stretch of weather that should carry right on through the weekend and the coming week as well. It is April now after all, and that's no joke.

A fox was meanwhile checking out the back patio area as I began my trip out to retrieve the morning paper today. I don't think he (or more likely, she) was able to make off with anything more satisfying than some spilled bird seed, but that areas is a regular hangout for tasty squirrels, chipmunks, and mourning doves, so it will serve as a 7/11 -like grocery shopping spot once kit-birthing season ramps up.

Haven't seen any of out deer friends yet today, but we did have a lone specimen munching away in solitude late yesterday just off the east side of the property. It's quite unusual to see just one deer at a time, so I scouted around to see if I could detect any companions, but there were none to be found. We'll probably get a dozen or something later on today to make up for it.

Meanwhile, some of us responsibly home-bound folks are getting a little tired of Trump's daily coronavirus campaign rallies knocking so much other programming off the air. Even bad programs would be better than listening to the likes of the My Pillow guy expounding on his sick personal hogwash on ten supposedly different channels. Fifteen minutes of Fauci a day is about all anyone really needs. Time to start pulling the proverbial plug on the rest of this pointless partisan babble. I mean, let's start recognizing this crap for what it has become at this point.

In other news, Toronto's ban through June 30 on all public events does not specifically include Blue Jays games, but it would hardly take much to make that point specific should MLB start making noises about trying to play before then. The PT Barnum Series between the Cubs and Cardinals has meanwhile been officially torpedoed. That was set to have been played in London on June 13 and 14. I wonder if the Baby Trump Balloon would have been there.

As a public service reminder, FCNP has confirmed that even residents of Falls Church City should (as best thay can) complete and return the 2020 Census questionnaire following instructions that were recently mailed to them. There is no Are you a dope in a dump? question, so you can put aside your fears on that front.

Well, it seems that the losers did not have such a good night after all and are not so far having much of a good morning either. So it sometimes goes I suppose when you're an idiot even on a good day. Meanwhile, we among the upper crust out here in the fantastic but wot at all widely affordable Sweet Spot are so far enjoying a highly promising morning. We've moved up two degrees to 46 from when I arose early on, and we're making confident strides now toward that 60-degree mark. There is nothing but golden sunshine beaming down out of cloudless blue skies with a 0% chance of seeing any rain today. As the trip down and back to retrieve the morning paper confirmed earlier however, it is a bit too much on the blustery side at the moment, so it would be an improvement if things would just calm down a bit. No encounters with any of our wildlife friends as of yet, but the way things have been going, it's likely that we might see somebody soon.

So perhaps now surpassing me, the wife is getting just a little bit frustrated with all this stay-at-home inactivity, so rather then getting more of the best take-out food around last night, she went ahead and cooked up a batch of one of our old favorite recipes from back in college days. While she's a very good cook in her own right, I've done nearly all the household cooking for some decades now, so she had to be pretty wound up to have done that. Ground beef, chopped veggies, sugar, chili powder, and sour cream. Delicious one-pot meal that adults and kiddies alike gobble up and then clamor for seconds of. There's maybe a couple more servings left over for today. Ladies first, but I'll be looking forward to mine at some point later on.

Over in TV Land meanwhile, it seems that President Dilly-Dally pulled the old bait-and-switcheroo by using pandemic-time to talk about his latest aspirational anti-drug illusions instead. What a shameless dope. In his mind I guess it's better to talk about anything at all other than the increasing death tolls attributable to his having gotten COVID reactions entirely backward from the get-go. Worst President ever. As bad as W was, Trump is far worse. It's not even close.

In other news, a couple of injured players say they are feeling 'really good' right now. They may have until 2021 to get all the way right, so we'll just check back on them from time to time.

No real reason or need to check back on conditions down in the dumps of Falls Church City of course, as the place is well-known for having suffered only further and further setbacks since the wife and I packed up and left for greener pastures some fifty years ago. We do still get periodic bulletins of course from the likes of Redfin, Zillow, and Trulia on how things are going in selected popular neighborhoods back that way such as Brockmont. As anyone here would be, we're very happy where we are, so we'll leave the entirety of that sorry FCC mess to the likes of losers.

LOL! It's a typical iPhone photo of a one-page 'daily specials' menu at a West Palm Beach eatery so opulent and upscale that it is beyond your capacity even to imagine it. It's burning you up here in just the way that our one-time dining at The Bull & Bear in Lake Buena Vista did. You couldn't handle that either. Same re the Café Coconut Cove in Melbourne Beach.

And by the way, how do you account in your delirium for images of diners inside that WPB spot enjoying their dinner selections, many likely to have come from that very 'daily specials' menu? Surely, there must be some sort of desperate, asinine, and worse than far-fetched explanation that you could manage to fabricate for that?

As for the two of us, you'll recall only with a great deal of envy that we enjoyed an excellent lobster bisque and tuna tartare with avocado salsa for openers that night, followed by rack of lamb and roast duck, all of that topped off with coffee and servings of Key Lime pie and coconut mousse for dessert. Where in the 'dining desert' of Falls Church City do you think you could go in order to dine like that?
