All Fairfax County public schools will be closed on Friday, February 16.

Offices will be open with a liberal leave policy in effect. Essential personnel should report to work.

The primary reason for the school closing is that many sidewalks are still not safe for children to walk on. Many side roads also remain covered with ice and snow. We urgently ask county residents to please clear their sidewalks.

This school day will be made up on Friday, March 30, which was previously designated as a student holiday. Schools will also be closed for the Presidents' Day holiday on Monday, February 19.

Extracurricular activities, middle school after-school programs, interscholastic contests, team practices, field trips, adult and community education classes, and recreation programs in schools and on school grounds are canceled..
School Age Child Care (SACC) centers are closed.

I thought they would make it up this Monday, Feb. 19.

Nahhh...I don't think they could cancel a long scheduled holiday....lotta folks might have had plans.

Plus, unless it warms up, they side streets and sidewalks will still be lousy on Monday. Also, if you didn't shovel this stuff yesterday....forget it, it's like rock now!

at this point we were all speculating that someone up in the central office died.
the reason posted makes a good deal of sense tho.

We have been exposed as the laughing stock of the nation.
If it rains next week we'll be closed. Can't have our students getting wet now...

Fairfax county could have a 60-day school year and still beat the pants off 90% of the school districts in the country in any form of testing. The rest of the country educates THAT poorly.

I think ffx's rep is safe.

There are plenty of "make up" days left. Forget about three day weekends now.

we are just lucky to have gotten through most of the winter unscathed. I mean its Mid February and its not snowed much at ALL. Next week supposed to be up in the 50's. Whew heat wave time

Nahhh, they won't take any National holidays....after Monday there's only one anyway (Memorial day).

Today will be made up on March 30 which was a scheduled student holiay (the Friday before Spring Break). Any additional snow days will be made up on teacher work days or added to the end of the year (June 18), if necessary.

puh-lease. people will just skip make up days anyway. Even if the teachers schedule tests that day. Who gives a frig if you fail. Go to NOVA its cheaper than some tight ass college and easier to get to that tight ass college once you go to NOVA anyway.

WEll it seems to me that the condtion of roads and sidewalks hasnt changes a lot since Fri. WHo thinks we get a delay/day off tomoarrow?

No delay tomorrow....my wife knows a FCPS honcho who said so.
