Christmas Light Displays in NOVA

What are the best Christmas light displays to see in Northern Virginia these days? We used to always go to Bull Run until they eliminated anything to do with Jesus or Santa Clause. Heard Vienna Winter Walk of Lights is good. Any other noteworthy displays to see that aren't a rip off?

"We used to always go to Bull Run until they eliminated anything to do with Jesus or Santa Clause."

Why do people keep interjecting Christ into Christmas? Let's keep Jesus out of Christmas discussions and displays, OK?

"Holiday" isn't a real holiday: it's fake news.

If you are going to put up a Happy Holiday sign with Christmas tree?

Look if it's a Christmas tree put a Merry Christmas sign or your FAKE.

If you too weak to put up a Merry Christmas sign: don't put up a tree.

That goes for Wash DC too.

Holiday_Yule_log.jpg

this is the Viking tradition: the yulelog, but many other things - a winter festival celebrating "have stores" and being ALIVE when mid-winter passes on it's way OUT of winter

the did NOT celebrate winter as a pagan religion. they had the town gathering festival because it was a good time to do such a thing, and all cities back then did have days they had festivals of (harvest / yield / being alive) celebration.

the Christmas tree is obviously not the nordic winter festival tradition

the real chrismas tree was invented by a lazy scandinavian boy who was told to bring in a log with trimmings, and to save making two cuts, brought in a whole small tree. his mother made him go back out into the snow shortly after.

3 years later, still in memory, a short girl at the winter festival was hopping up and down. when asked why she said "i can't see the log over people in front of me! i want to see it before it's on fire!", thus the great idea: the log isn't good for children, time to raise it up

the height of the festival tree, much higher than code height for a fire, set on fire a nearby trash heap on fire, which the men who hauled it weekly exclaimed was a great relief

this is also when burning trash in a barrel became a tradition !

The idea of decorating with cuttings from evergreens or even with an entire tree goes back to pagan times. It was based on the idea that the evergreen which didn't shed its leaves in winter represented the perpetuation of life. In Reformation Germany the Protestants built on this by decorating and illuminating the tree.

The religious forerunners of today's conservative evangelicals tried to abolish Christmas celebrations because they smacked of the Two P's, Popery and Paganism. Now they want to have society celebrate it to the exclusion of all other winter holidays.

"THE RELIGIOUS FORERUNNERS of today's . . . Now THEY want to have society celebrate it . . . ."

So these (so-called) religious forerunners are still alive? Damn, they must be REALLY old!
