George 104?

What happened to 104.1? Who the hell is George? I thought it was a shitty opera station. I checked it out because someone said it was now a sports station but all I heard was music. Are the Redskins are going to be on this station?

On Monday Bonneville changed the format of WGMS 104.1 from classical to the crap it plays now, fired all the on-air staff, then donated the 15,000 disc library to WETA 90.1. Brings new meaning to the phrase "at-will employment".

All the stations are lost since Stern left 106.7 They can't play follow the leader because the leader is gone. Now there is the mad scramble to take over different air times.

Ratings-wise, the "leader", even in WJFK's finest hour, was WPGC. They are consistently number one overall, going back to the distant past.

The problem is that most other stations decided years ago they did not want to follow that leader.

I would look at the cost to buy airtime as to who is the actual leader. 106.7 could ask and receive whatever price they wanted. I am sure WPGC went for a lot less. Eastern motors where your jobs your credit, uh huh uh huh.

As far as not following I would disagree, when you turn on the radio and heard don and mike along with a load of other Stern imitations.

I can concede I have no idea who is charging what. WJFK defintely has the type of listeners advertisers want, ie, the early adopter types and such in the 18-35 demo, etc.

"As far as not following I would disagree, when you turn on the radio and heard don and mike along with a load of other Stern imitations."

Nothing personal but that statement makes no sense, and I wasn't talking about WJFK when I was referring to followers. You may want to clarify what you mean, or rewrite that sentence.

What I meant was the number of radio personalities that were rip offs of Stern. Sometimes I would hear others use the same bits on the afternoon shows that Stern had used on his morning show. I thought near the end on free radio he had gotten stale but he did have a run of twenty some years and that was to be expected.

I get you. Nobody can debate that Stern is so heavily imitated, however, that didn't just start being the case.

What did you mean when you said there is a mad scramble to take over certain air times? Was this not always the case?

It seemed it was a lot more when Stern left. I think a number of DJ's saw their chance to be the next big thing. Since radio stations live on advertising sales it was that much more important to grab the listener demographics you spoke of.

I haven't been following radio as closely as I once did, sounds like that was a good choice. All that drama gives me hives.

I used to listen to Stern, but didn't get satellite when he switched. I like the Junks now. I haven't listened to Don and Mike for a while. They just aren't funny anymore. The junks are getting tired to but its better then Eliot. I don't even think there are any other shows on in the morning anyway.

Back to this George station.. Does anyone know if Dan Snyder is going to put the Redskins games on it next year? I don't know why hes playing music when he can put his sports shows on instead of the stations he has them on now.

I never listen to Music Radio anymore, i'm on 106.7 almost all the time now. O&A make radio fun again, Howard never did it for me.. All he talked about was Ass & Tit's.. What's the point if i can't see it??

Don and Mike are nearing the end, it's not like it was 5 years ago. They still make me crack up, but not as much as they once did.

Sterns show is the exact same show everytime. He gets some porn star on then asks them "let me see your tits? oh come on... please?" What so amazing about seeing a porn stars tits? That plus dull bathroom fart humor and how everybody is against him. That's suppose to be entertainment?

At least with Elliot there is some basis for learning some new fact. While I can't stand Elliot's laugh, he does get the inside scoop on some stuff when listeners call in. Don and Mike also have some entertainment value when they do some great voices and impressions.
