U.S. Senator Corey Stewart?

Election night will be very interesting if Corey Stewart could defeat Tim Kaine. Given Virginia's history of electoral corruption, I don't see that happening.

But, if it did, there is one interesting possibility:

There is nothing in U.S. law nor that of any state that requires a sitting holder of political office to surrender that office if defeated.

All a defeated Democrat has to do is reject the outcome of the vote as "biased", "irrelevant", etc., and refuse the results of the election.

Say it couldn't happen? The recent conduct of Democratic office holders and those seeking office gives reason to wonder if they would accept defeat?

Especially when they have essentially a "government in exile" already functioning in D.C.

The really sad part is that if Republicans are the only grownups, who is going to keep them in check if there is no reasonable and viable alternative? That is the problem the Republicans face. The Democratic Party has serious self-inflicted damage. It began with the McGovern-Eagleton debacle of 1972. Any loss in 2018 will further damage the Democratic brand. If 2018 losses are serious, the party lacks the mature leadership necessary to keep it from becoming a marginalized and regional party.
