I'm sick and tired of dealing with Evans when it comes to matter dealing with our schools. She doesn't care or at the very least has this attitude with her when it comes to dealing with certain issues. She's very dismissive and kind of condescending when I brought to her attention some instances of teachers overstepping their bounds with behavior management in class and leadership at the school not doing anything about it.

I didn't vote for her and I've had similar experience with her attitude towards the job and how she will sort of shove aside issues dealing with our schools if they don't interest her.

I've had a much better time dealing with McElveen, Moon, Keys-Gamarra and Hynes when it came to school board matters.

As for the Stuart name change, 500K ha! once the contractors are done milking the jobs of replacing school logos on the gym floors and football fields, score boards, signs, letterheads, uniforms and school clothing the cost will be in excess of a million $. Oh and Jeb Stuart is just the beginning, Lee, Madison, Mosby Woods and any other FCPS school with a slave owners name will get changed over the next 10 years. I met Sandy Evans when she was first running for SB. Based on my initial conversations I thought she had the potential to be a decent board member. Since she wasn't in my district and seemed to have a lock on winning I didn't find it necessary to support her campaign. In my dealings with her since she has never failed to disappoint. Makes me wish I could go back in time and support her opponent.

Anymore??? There is a joke among FCPS employees that the kids could all disappear and it would take Gatehouse and the School Board a month to realize it. That joke is at least 15-20 years old. The school board and top brass have an administration to run, they have careers to pursue and they have their agendas, all of which leaves very little time for worring about mundane issues such as the quality of education students are receiving.

This is why we end up with the school systems we have. If people who want mature and responsible leadership in their education system allow themselves to be divided over details which don't fit their personal views, then the dominant fringe in the area is going to win out. The school system values are going to relect the dominant political and social culture of the area. In a place like Texas things are going to be more conservative than in places that are left of center. What matters is whether the dominant political fringe is going to water down the quality of education in order to advance their own social or political agenda. Or whether those in the center-left, the center and the center-right can unite to protect and preserve the quality of education.

You live in Fairfax County, an area that is left of center. That means there will be a certain amount of PC crap. That means that we will have family life education which discusses alternative sexual and family lifestyles rather than promoting a 1950s view on sex and family. Accept it. What should matter is whether we let the PC crap affect the quality of the education. For those who value mature and responsible leadership in our education system it shouldn't matter whether Stuart is named JEB Stuart, Harriett Tubman or Caesar Chavez. What should matter is whether we are spending a pile of money to rename a school is a good use of school funds.

Moon is only getting re-elected cuz he’s an Asian

Moon is being elected because it doesn't take that many votes to win an at large school board race, and Moon has built up a constituency that will guarantee him those votes. Asians are part of that constituency, but there are other groups that he has served over the years that he has been on the school board that he can rely on. Plus being identified as a Democrat in a heavily Democratic area helps too.

It is amazing how politically naive some people can be. The winning candidates in recent at large school board elections were lucky if they got the votes of even 10-15% of the County population. Rather than laughing at how stupid they are we should be asking ourselves "What is wrong with the other candidates that they couldn't even get 10-15% of the county population to vote for them. Poor candidates? Wrong message? Poorly run campaigns? Overwhelming apathy among potential voters? Combination of these, or none of the above?

Individual district positions are different. In most there are only a few constituencies at play, and a candidate only needs to secure a couple to win the election. Sandy Evans has the ones in Mason District that matter sewn up.
