Is it thick enough? How about the canal? Where is the best place?

Yes, the ice is thick all the way to the middle shipping channel. I took my family and a bunch of my kids' friends out yesterday. We started out over by National Harbour and were able to skate under the Wilson bridge all the way to Jones Point in Alexandria.

There were a ton of people out. A couple of great pick-up hockey games over by Blue Plains and Bolling. We even saw some people with SUVs out on the ice driving around (a little dangerous, but it looked like fun).

Definitely thick enough ice.

Me and my mates played hockey over there in between national airport and hanes point. Was awesome! Ice was thick enough for one of the lads to drive his suburban right out there in the middle of the powtomac to drop off the goals and sticks and pucks.
