The problem I have with posting information on County employees is that, unlike politicians or those appointed to political/government posts, teachers don't choose to be in the limelight. At what point should a county employee's privacy be protected and respected? This list wasn't just teachers, mind you, it was also custodial staff.

They are public employees. This is all obtainable by FIOA. There is nothing illegal about any of this. Any one of you can obtain this information. Government employees (including teachers, custodians, administrative staff) know this is public information.

They are public employees. This is all obtainable by FIOA. There is nothing illegal about any of this. Any one of you can obtain this information. Government employees (including teachers, custodians, administrative staff) know this is public information.

All you have to do is ask a teacher how long they have been in and what level of education they have to know their salary. The pay scale is always publicly available! So fucking what? Fairfax county has a $980m school budget (also public knowledge), runs the Nation's largest school bus fleet, transports more students, and pioneered public school magnet and special needs programs that schools across the nation use as a model for their own programs. The only thing you've proven here it that your boss Probably pays YOU too much because you spend all your time trolling the internet for the purpose of attempting to slander hard working public servants! Fairfax pays teachers well. I get it. That must be why many drive from neighboring counties (and sometimes much farther) to work for them. And nevermind the endless layers of bureaucracy that each teacher has to weed through just to teach a lesson. And nevermind the antagonistic parents that they have to deal with constantly who blame the problems their snowflake brats are having on teachers who end up shouldering the burden of trying to adjust so many of these miscrient pests you people call offspring. Take a fucking day off and spend it with your fucking kids and maybe you'll figure out why they're so messed up. Put your money where your mouth is and act like family is most important to you like you always tout on your social media pages. I feel sorry for the food service workers.
None of them make over $12k/year. Living here in fairfax. Even the kitchen managers make no more than $25k.
Even Panera Bread and Starbucks pays $10/hour now.
Perfect part-time job for a housewife-type who has kids at home and needs a bit of extra cash every month - yet all I see are hispanic and middle eastern names on this list.
Do no white or black women want the job- or do they just not get hired because middle easterners tend to hire only other middle easterners and hispanics only hire other hispanics??? Are they even legal? Do they even speak english? How did they get through the interview if they cannot speak english? Hmmmmm.....

I was in the army for ten years and I never felt underpaid. Free housing, free education, free food, free transportation, free clothes, free physical fitness training, lots of great friends... not sure what the big deal is. In fact, I argue I was probably overpaid. I think most of our military is overpaid considering the perks.

And they don't make 90 k a year with automatic raises for 15 hrs toward the next degree, for 9 3/4 or 10 months a years work.
Anyone other then teachers that get a degree have to apply for a job that demands it and raises are given for increased responsibilities and good work in private industry. The automatic raise's with 15 hour increments toward the next degree is why some of these teachers are so highly paid without any extra responsibilities or good work.
Custodians and maintenance work 12 months a year, food services 9 3/4 bus drivers mostly are part time and I agree they get their moneys worth from their services.

I am a teacher in Fairfax County and I can say that I am overpaid. I work 1/2 the year. I only work six hours a day. I don't really do much other than tell kids to be quiet and raise their hand when they need to use the bathroom.

11313- exactly right on teachers working more like 35 weeks...and remember the work week is only 37.5 hours and this does not include lame teacher work days, early releases, 2 hour delays, etc.
So as someone who did pretty well in math, we need to compare apples to apples which would mean teachers salaries need to be quoted in rate per hour. Being that they "work" 35 weeks and most in private sector work 49 weeks per year (2 weeks vacation, 5 holidays), let's open entitled teachers eyes to the fact that their hourly rate far exceeds accountants, most lawyers, registered nurses, and several other professions. You can do a google search about an article that spells this out clearly.

Whoever says teachers are overpaid needs a dose of reality.
Teachers even with summer and "breaks" are 9 1/2 to 10 month employees. They often put in 12 to 16 hour days. Most pay out of pocket for student materials. Teacher work days involve classes and there's constant licensure compliance which is fine, but to argue teachers are overpaid needs to break down the hours and education requirements.

194 days is 39 weeks. The only thing that reduces that total would be weather related days. So this year that would be reduced to 191 days at this point.

And some of the highly paid teachers on list worked other careers for years...then join FCPS getting step credits and enter making 80s & 90s for a 35 week a year job and teaching things like heath education, dental hygiene, plumbing to adults. What I gather from your post is that an employee is rewarded in their salary for long tenure. Sounds like good business. Not necessarily the way things are done now-a-days but still, good business.

Salaries are based on time in the system and your degree ... that's it. Doesn't matter what grade you teach. Now if your mom came over from another district, they may not have given her credit for all the time at the previous district. Or, maybe she really didn't work ten of those and was just out banging guys all day long instead of actually working.

I for one am proud of the teachers. Well underpaid for what they do. For the ones that people perceive is a high salary these teachers have years in service and higher educational degrees. What most people should spend time focusing on is the lack of decent pay. These are the people educating our workforce.

I see a lot of people complaining about how a lot of these teachers are overpaid. Especially when some teachers perceived as less valuable are earning more many than those teaching the “more important” subjects. On the whole keep in mind that the cost of living in NoVA is extremely high. Wages in the 80-120k range are fairly par for this area in terms of mean/median income. In terms of those questioning the work ethic of teachers, I had part time teachers that frequently worked AT school until well after midnight and easily put in more than 10 hours a day. In terms of people who teach “easier” classes or something, keep in mind that for the most part everything we learn through high school is fairly easy in the grand scheme of things (yes even through the AP level). It’s the keeping track and actually teaching many students (especially younger ones) that’s the difficult. It’s really sad that grown ass adults are trying to attack the wages of other very thoroughly middle class employees. Grow the FUCK up. If you think any of these wages are extraordinarily or unreasonably high, I’m sorry that you believe that, maybe you should have chosen a different career path that compensates you more fairly for your work. If these numbers are really that objectionable just fuck off and live somewhere else.
