Just because a bunch of people use something, doesn't mean it's best or correct or right.
Bon Jovi released a box set called "100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong". Oh yes they can! All the best in pop culture is outside of the mainstream. This is a marketing decision and how the world of commercial art works. This is commonly referred to as "selling out". It means you stop making art for the sake of the art and its impact on humanity...and start making art that will sell to the most number of people.
Take any band who have released more than two albums...any band at all, any artist in any genre. Compare their first album with their last album. The early work is always better. It's fresh. It's new. It's different.
The later stuff is watered down and made for the masses. Most bands or artists work for several YEARS writing and recording their first album. In most cases it's a work in progress before they even sign a recording contract. Later albums are written and recorded under due dates and a strict timeline.
Creatively talented human beings struggle with due dates. As one of my English professors said, "With no deadlines, all of you would write the perfect paper and earn an A everytime."
