If there was any truth to this "story" even one iota, all parties involved would've been reprimanded by now in some way, shape, or form. Say what you will about FCPS, the school board, etc., but if nothing else, understand this:

As a lawyer whose children attended Lake Braddock through both middle and high school, I followed this story at its inception. I must confess it has proven to be very disappointing as I continue to read the disdain some parents feel for the Lake Braddock administration, even after the allegations have proven to be unfounded. While I am absolutely sure the parent or group of parents are angry the resulting outcome was less than desirable, it was my hope some form of healing would have taken place at the conclusion of the school board meeting and the subsequent Washington Post article which followed.

If those who still find themselves pining for another, yet different result pertaining to the alleged incident, continue to seek the outcome they feel is just, if only in their eyes, the Lake Braddock community cannot begin to heal.

My deepest fear is what our children are bearing witness to, which is that of adults who are continually demanding change because the desired outcome, regardless of the event, is less than what they wanted. And those within the Lake Braddock administration have not been punished for their indiscretions, which inflames the heated desires to do whatever is necessary, no matter who it may hurt, to have someone, anyone, finally see that the wrong still has yet to be righted.

The whistle blower? There was no whistle blower. Reading the previous threads, I believe it was stated somewhere that Poythreas was reprimanded for continually allow Chance's access into the building without checking in.

There is nothing here. It's time to let this go. Things are as such that the selfish vindictiveness of a few has run its course. With over 10 years teaching experience, Stephanie currently teaches English at Herndon High School and sponsors student government. Stephanie has been involved in soccer, in one capacity or another since her childhood and is excited to return to coaching soccer for the Lake Braddock Bruins.

I call bullshit on the Poythress law suit.

1) It is nowhere on the internet.
2) VA has very restrictive rules for whistle blowing/retaliation including:

a) Two year time line - this is almost up
b) Focus on termination. What was the harm to him - he still has his teaching job, albeit at a different school. I suppose you could say this was retaliation, but what is the harm in dollars - he has to drive a little further? He would not get much for this.
c) His coaching job is not a termination/retailiation since they simply did not renew his annual coaching contract.

Federal whistle blowing laws are much less restrictive/lucrative, but those don't apply in this case.

There are always “bad” teachers, “bad” bosses, “bad” neighbors. The fact is, your “bad” is not the same as my “bad”. We are not always understood and appreciated for the star that we are. Not everyone is going to like us and treat us how we deserve to be treated; and principals, head of corporations or other neighbors are not going to see things our way or understand what our problem is.

The retaliation against Poythress is a symptom of a system-wide infection. FCPS has principals and HR administrators who believe that FCPS is their personal kingdom. Rules don't apply to them and they can violate rules to achieve their own goals.

We lawyers who work on behalf of FCPS can only act upon and react to the information we are provided. The infection must be treated with the removal of the diseased parts: Thomas, Sills . ..

Only then will students, parents and teachers be able to thrive in a system that is trusted and respected because it follows and enforces its own rules.

All should be glad that there are those who fight for what is right for the benefit of all: the parents seeking justice for the girls basketball players; the dad who has written to LBSS faculty and the school board about Thomas; Bogage of the Washington Post; and all who support Poythress.

I feel bad for the football kids and their families but I still feel really bad for those underage girls who had their lives f'd up forever when they were sold out by those who were paid magnificent salaries to look out for them. I don't know why FCPS fired coach G for sexual comments but not Poythress.
He treated us terribly on the team and I'm glad my kids will be playing football only after he retires.

It is also widely known the UMD commit tweets on his private twitter about receiving money/checks from Maryland for recruiting players. Never got reprimanded for being caught with alcohol in the car during football season. Played the next game...same guy. Never gets reprimanded

With all due respect to the fine journalism of the WP, there is so much wrong with this story--I'm not even sure where to begin.

For one, why is a school board member, Elizabeth Schultz, commenting on personnel matters? Isn't the school board in the business of making policies that benefit students? Not interjecting in public comments and judgments about school employees? Seeing as though your piece contradicts that, I think much of the school community would find your article to be tabloid journalism at best.

Second, how is it that one parent, who has a daughter on the basketball team and a son on the football team, is able to spin the facts of two unrelated incidents? The information you present from that parent's side of the story is nonsense and completely unreliable, disgraceful coming from a national newspaper as reputable as yours. You claim to have 2400 emails, and if that is true, you should have emails between Mr. Poythress and this parent coordinating a plot to fire the principal with the help of their, once again, all too involved school board member. Why would these two men want to do such a thing with the help of their school board member?

Third, you picked this story up way after it left the station and negated to include where it first began. That is, on the Fairfax County Parkway at 2 AM when a car of five of Lake Braddock's football players was pulled over by a fairfax county police officer, all found to be intoxicated, and all released to their parents with ZERO charges pressed for committing a real and dangerous crime. Mr. Bogage, if you are looking to inform the public on this issue, start where it began, and include everything. Write about how these five white teenagers were released from life ruining charges with nothing on them, write about how when FCPS took action against these individuals (in the form of enforcing the Participation Policy), the same parent who was mentioned earlier. The SAME parent (whose daughter is one the basketball team and coincidentally has a son on the football team) was INFURIATED by that, and is what actually ended Mr. Poythress' tenure as the football coach at Lake Braddock because he failed to report it to the administration.

Now, the story you compiled is not investigative enough, as you missed a HUGE part of the story. That police report is available to the public, as is all of the information I just said. That's a story, THAT's the truth. Write about the continuous behavior of parents that don't hold their kids accountable, don't allow them to fail, and don't allow them to feel the consequences of their actions, which might we mention would be completely different if the socioeconomic status and race of these unnamed people changed. There's your story, and the story you have, it's simply wrong, and it's not doing the justice you want it to, I can assure you. I know what's happening.

Dear Ernesto's dad and other morons... your rants are transparent and you're all a laughingstock. Any failure to deal with a known drinking violation rests with the Principle, period, Principle Thomas and the rest of the administration were well aware of the infraction even though the arresting officer showed mercy on the young men. Just or unjust, it was the officers decision to not officially charge the players. No one but the officer had any authority over that decision.

As for the matter of the schools participation policy, that ultimately rests with the Principle, not the coach. The Principle was fully aware, he knew all the facts, nothing was hidden from him or unknown, and he made the final decision to allow the kids to play. Poythress communicated everything he knew about the event to Thomas, and Thomas made the call. These are the facts. Principle Thomas was the judge and jury in this case, the buck stops at the top. As such, any decision rests squarely on the shoulders of Principle Thomas. By your own logic (or lack thereof) Principle Thomas buckled to pressure from parents, one in particular. OK, that proves further ineptitude on the part of Principle Thomas as he clearly shirked his duty to uphold the schools stated participation policies. Instead, he chose to violate those very policies and reinstated the guilty players without punishment. He caved and allowed the offending kids to play. Is that leadership? Poythress has no authority to override the Principle in this instance, none. Thomas made the call, the blame is his alone. As an aside, why would Park hold a grudge on that count? He got his way, no?

Further, your attempts to conflate the matter of underage drinking with the girls basketball/harassment case is laughable. Coach Poythress was not unjustly targeted by Principle Thomas for the matter of underage drinking. An issue in which Poythress had no control, in which he fully complied with the rules, and in which Principle Thomas made the final ruling. Poythress was never in the crosshairs for anything even remotely connected to the underage drinking issue. That's pure absurdity. Poythress was targeted, expressly, because he was listed as a witness to the fact that Thomas was well aware of the harassment matter and purposefully "slow played" the girls basketball investigation. A clear violation of law, as well as county policy. The matter of underage drinking and the harassment case are two distinctly different issues. Both of them horribly botched by Principle Thomas. Any attempt to cast blame elsewhere is a joke, and those spreading that nonsense are morons.

I know Coach P very well and I would be flabbergasted if he was posting here. He draws offensive plays by hand, still has a flip phone cell (doesn't even have the VM set up), can barely do email and has no idea what the WWW is. I could be wrong, but i doubt it.

I don't know why FCPS fired coach G for sexual comments but not Poythress.

Thomas wanted Poythress out. Nobody had a bad word to say so he trick the young trainer. She said she heard the coach cuss and that was it. They never interviewed the players or staff...just the trainer. Same trainer with a giant tramp stamp on her back! Now she is on every committee....She will be exposed and humiliated.

Mr. Sills the Director of Equity and Employment Relations will be moving to a different job and a number of people is so very happy. He didn't take care of some of the issues at certain elementary and middle schools with high turnover and complaints of discrimination.

I went to LB Homecoming game last night. People were talking about the abuse case and the coverup. Apparently, girls BB parents and others aren't quitting on this. And they're picking up some strong allies. God bless 'em.

Were you discussing the fact that it happened on the anniversary of the football player drunk driving incident? Were you discussing how that incident is why JP no longer has a job at Lake Braddock? How about the fact that the dad of one of those football players in the car is leading the girls basketball "issue". Were you discussing how all of those public entities are proud of the Lake Braddock Administration for addressing the real issue? How about the fact that Supervisor Cook has instructed the FCPD to arret parents that supply alcohol at teen drinking parties? Yeah, that's what you should be discussing because that is the outcome of these "investigations".... Lake Braddock parents are on notice and if another football player drunk driving incident occurs, the South Run Helicopter parents go to jail. That's worthy of discussion.

Mr. Kevin Sills who is a licensed lawyer is the Director of Equity and Employee Relations for Fairfax County School Board. He also usually works behind close doors to settle court cases and sign agreements on behalf of the school board.

Words of Advice: Mr. Sills, Karin Rodriquez, Cindy Fitzgerald, and Dr. Ramney are all licensed or trained lawyers so don't trust them at all.

I think the poster asked if the Democrat school board was going to act on the coverup of the abuse of teenage girls at Lake Braddock. I don't believe the President was involved with the Lake Braddock case. Am I wrong on that?
