It's so nice to see how well respected the Westfield Football program is on the FFU website.
To achieve 3 straight state titles is an accomplishment that any program would love to boast. Kudos to the team and their victory in a year when they were not supposed to make it out of the playoffs.
Everyone of the haters talks about cheating, but nobody provides any evidence other than their IMO. The talent is not comparable to some other teams, but they came prepared every game and put in the effort to be ready.
Coaching and a team willing to be coached, something that LB would love to have but never will.
So stop whining and hating, help your school get the attitude and coaches that will make a difference, no matter what the talent level is on the team.
If DOC wants to get a title, he should become an assistant on the WF staff!

Been around high school football for a long time, and no - not a coach. I also don't have a horse in the race when it comes to Loudoun v Fairfax football. I have seen all of the top teams in person over the past 10 years, many times over.
But I did want to share some unbiased information that I thought some would find interesting.
There are a great many reasons why Loudoun hasn't won any Class 5 football
championships in last 10-15 years. And there are also reasons why Westfield has won three in a row. Here are but a few...
1. Broad Run (08 and 09) and Briar Woods (10, 11, and 12) won Class 4 titles
so they weren't even in Class 5 until recently. Tuscarora wasn't placed
in 5A until 2013.
2. Two of the most important reasons are... Phoebus and Highland Springs.
You can say what you will, but those two programs are fantastic.
3. Mickey Thompson Factor. This fact is true. His arrogance has cost him dearly
but never worse than last year when Stone Bridge was up 14-0 in the 2nd
quarter and he went for it on 4th and 7 from his own 23. Everyone that was
at that game knew Highlanders were just about ready to quit when he gave
them the ball on SB 25 after a draw was stuffed on 4th down! And this year,
he has an undefeated team that could have won it all, but he goes 2 for 7
(Yes, 2 for 7!) on 4th downs and loses to Tuscarora by one. He chokes.
4. Simmons and his staff are special. His teams all become markedly better
by the time the playoffs come around. His preparation and game adjustments
are unmatched in the state right now.
5. The top 4 or 5 Loudoun schools have better programs right now than rest of
Fairfax schools, IMO, with the exception of Westfield. They are smaller
schools, but gave Fairfax fits during the last three years.
6. Luck plays a part, and these things are all cyclical. I respect the hell out
of Westfield, but I have spoken to the Westfield staff and they believe
themselves to be very fortunate to have won the two overtime championship
games. And when I say cyclical, I also realize that some programs won titles
but will never be relevant again. Remember, Annandale, Chantilly and
Garfield all won titles in the 90's. Park View in Sterling won in 88.Those
poor schools are an embarrassment these days.

How Mickey Thompson lost to Tuscarora this year is beyond me! Tuscarora was outplayed by Broad Run, then outplayed by Stone Bridge, then outplayed by Stafford.. and then really OUTPLAYED by Highland Springs. Still, except for Westfield, every Fairfax County team would have finished 4th in Potomac District.

I shouldn't get all worked up, but just seeing the ALL-MET teams named by the Washington Post gets me fired up. Why do they love Maryland so much? I am sick and tired of hearing how great Damascus is. Who do they play? They are a small school that would get ripped by the better teams in Virginia, but WaPo makes them out to be IMG Academy. They take the time to have the kids come in and take photos, publicize it every year, so at least have ONE person who knows what is what. I will give you just one example of how silly they are. Tuscarora makes it to the state championship final. Nice story. Overachievers, etc. Post makes their QB second team QB in entire DMV. The kid is a nice player, but he didn't get 1st or 2nd Team in his own 8-team conference! Virginia high schoo, football is better than Maryland, by and large, and don't get me started on how bad the DC public schools are, yet Post always ranks their top teams and kids.

WHS- if you look at their numbers they were so balanced on offense. Run and passing yards we’re almost 50-50 same with tds. No.8 was the difference. Way better RB than what they had last year, that offset the dip at the talent at WR. On defense WHS had a Nolan Cockrill no other school in the area had a guy like him. Also no.2 has more int’s than TD receptions 11-8. So to day they did it with smoke and mirrors and they were unathletic is bit of a stretch. Only area where they were really down as compared to last year was in their kicking game and I’m surprised it didn’t come back to bite them in the ass. Oh and no.2 blocked so many pat’s & punts this year it was ridiculous! Simmons showed why he and his staff are the best at what they do.

Agree, 2nd team QB selection is bit of a head scratcher. Also they select SL kid for 1st team safety but write about his offensive exploits...which category you selecting him for? WHS no.8 had 11 ints this season and a ring and he gets only a HM, WTF! Whoever comes up with this they are clueless.

Seriously though, what did happen to Stone Bridge this season. They looked like one of the most complete and dominant football teams I've seen in quite a few years. But they seem to have got weaker as the season went on. Did they fall in love with throwing to Thompson too much? Against Tusky that seemed to be their entire game plan.

Stone Bridge got out of the gates very quickly, defeating Braddock in week 3 (46-13), Madison in week 4 (35-10), and Champe in week 5 (59-28). They put up 59 against the team that smacked Centreville around 35-21 a couple of weeks prior.
They did miss Bradley Block, but he was pretty much hurt all year. Could have used him against Tuscarora for sure.
They really have a gimmicky offense, and their conference rivals keep them pretty much in check - those games are usually close. Madison seemed to have learned from playing them a couple of years in a row, but did get manhandled this year.
Thompson (TE) is no relation but absolutely torched Tuscarora in the playoff game. Broad Run had completely shuit down Thompson in their matchup, but they were able to grind it out cslowly but surely. I found their OL weaker than in year's past and Tusky decided to try and shut down the run, which they pretty much did.
Finally, they lost because Mickey did what Mickey does. I am all for going for it on 4th when situation calls for it, but dammit, man... punt once in a while. 2 for 7 on 4th down conversions against Tuscarora tells the story of that game right there... and they still almost won. Dude can't get out of his own way.

Also the o-line was not doing well in the beginning, so for you to try and insinuate that WHS did not win by a larger margin because of the QB is asinine. They won by enough points and why not leave it at that. Look at the rushing yds by the RB, that is more telling as to what was happening in the first half of the game. Teams win championships, not individuals, teams lose championships, not individuals.

I am surprised that this hasn't been talked about much but it is true that the Westfield First Team All Region D-Linemen did not play in the state championship game because of a minor non football related issue. Yet Westfield still came away with a win. Says a lot about the programs culture.

All I'm saying is there are a lot of programs that sweep that stuff under the rug. Maybe not in NOVA/FCPS but I could tell you stories of shit that happens in other states far worse than that and players keep playing. Heck, I know a RB in PA that was arrested multiple times during the season last year and the local police and school admin kept it under wraps.
