Ok, this is the big week for the Centreville vs Westfield Game. So, let's hear the bold predictions. I think Westfield rested up there starters vs Oakton in Fridays game. It's been a while since Centreville has beaten the Bulldogs. (The silence of Centreville fans has been truly enjoyable, too!) I'd have to say I don't see a Centerville win happening this time around either. Injuries can change everything during a game and if I remember correctly these 2 beat up each other pretty well.

Let the chatter begin and let's hope they meet again, deep into the playoffs!

TCW lost 27-21 against Hayfield. Hayfield could have loss thanks to horrible play calling (being up 27-14, and going for a 1st on a 4th down on the 30ish yardline) of course TC scored off of it. Last 30 sec play on 4th down was an incomplete pass thanks to a Hayfield defender.

Next week TC takes out frustration on Edison, while the Gunston district champion game goes on an ancient revived rivalry against West Potomac at home. I honestly have no clue who will win. West Po has had a tougher schedule however that clearly didn't help with a crushing loss to Patriot and a downer against TC the week before. Of course, Hayfield is hayfield and lord knows that they could be up or down by 20 and flip the score in a quarter.

If West Po wins, then there could be a 3 way tie depending how MtV does against West Po or TCW. If Hayfield wins then they practically won as their only remaining opponent would be Annadale.

In reality, it should have been 2-1 Centreville in the playoffs. Centreville was by far the better team in 2013 and 2014 (and in the 2014 regular season game a lot of things went right for Westfield, I must admit). In 2012 the teams were all but dead even. In the regional championship Centreville was given two calls, one blatant and one confusing, that led directly to 10 Centreville points. The first was a defensive PI in the end zone. On that call I approached a group of head officials at the half who were there to supervise and watch the game (as they do every year for this game) to ask about the call. I asked why it was a PI. The supervisor of officials said, and I quote, "we were wondering that too". The other call was an alleged 4th down catch deep in Westfield territory where the ball clearly bounced on the ground and was scooped up. The official who made the call was behind the receiver and partially blocked from seeing the play but still overruled the others. It is what it is, the officials are human, and that's why we play the games. But don't be deceived by just the numbers.

Are you nuts? If you knew knew how big this rivalry was you wouldn't be saying that. Swap 14 wins to negate 3 playoff losses in years where you already got to the region championship? No way. That's bragging rights for a whole year right there.

Freedom is so far above the rest of the teams in their bracket (Region C) they are a virtual lock to make it to the state semis where they will have to play someone like Westfield, Madison, Centreville, etc. They have one key ingredient that makes them extremely dangerous-the QB. If you don't manage to contain him on his option decisions he can run away from most teams. That said, I think a power game will give Freedom a lot of trouble, and that is exactly what type of team I expect to emerge from Region D.

He is lazy and not even close to being the best DB on the team, so not a big loss

I'd say there defense as a whole is something teams will have to watch out for in the playoffs, anyone able to contain Ricky Slade deserves some credit

Hayfield just made a complete 360 from that Robinson game.... 42-7 over West Potomac near the end of the game.... A few minutes left.

Not entirely surprised from their win, but surprised with their score seeing how West Po usually handles spread teams.

Correction, 33-14 near the end (MaxPreps as finicky as usual). Still, a surprising defeat for the Wolverines.

At this point I'm kind of just keeping it alive.... there is about 10 minutes left, 33-15 for Hayfield vs West Po.

Westfield up 27-11 with a few minutes to go. Not surprised, but I was hoping for an upset.

Stonebridge won in a close physical match, 14-13 over Tuscarora. Honestly I would consider this a draw by mere luck of a missed extra point. Still, good for them for remaining undefeated!

FreedomW once again owning a bad team. (I like them, I do, but I think people are severely overestimating by pure shock value of their rather arbitrary outstanding season). They're not vetted yet.

In all fairness, the Hayfield coach got pissed and ran the entire team for 45 mins before they got out the bus to Robinson. So they were done before they ever got to the game. When evaluating both teams, you really need to throw that game out.

Doc and Bruins win another!

That's 5 in row and they are getting hot at the right time, just in time for the playoffs.

So now for all of you naysayers, Doc has turned this program around and got them on the winning track. Now you can clearly see why the people on the board were all saying this is the best staff in the state!

The region better watch out because the Bruins have you in their sights.

Excuse me. WHY did the program need "turning around?" LB won 10+ games the last 5 years in a row. This year is going to put an end to that. First 0-3 start in 13 years.

Yes, we can see that the record of their first 3 opponents is 20-4. The record of their last 5 opponents is 20-20. Obvious is obvious.

No - Curry needs at least three years to build up a team. He turned around his LC school in just one year. Sophomores are starting. More will come out. He is disciplined, hard working and has great ties with the community. The last time CHS lost all games, they were in the state championship game the following year.

They had a tough schedule, no doubt, but they better go at least 4-6 next year if the coach wants to stay, because 0-10 with an opportunity against 4 scrub schools is unacceptable.

It’s Tilly what do u all expect...? Look at the demographics of that school. Also look at the youth (CYA) program, it’s a hot mess run by a racist a-hole (their numbers are steadily declining)3-7 or 4-6 is a good season for them to think they’ll ever be in states again is absurd.

Do kids have a choice about what youth club they play for? If CYA is so bad, can’t they play for another group? Where do Centreville and Westfield students develop? Geographically all three HS are so close and of course were once all Chantilly.

No. Curry needs a chance - give him a couple of years. He's really a great guy, has all the local connections and I think everyone respects him. Just came into a bad situation.

Demographics? Pretty much the same as Centreville and Westfield. What are you talking about?

CYA - you might have a point there but that comment you made is way out of line and wrong.

Both are fed by SYA. American conference is where the varsity players are bred. Central is the benchwarmers. National is the guys who will play freshmen and then wash out. Exceptions apply to all these conferences of course.

Complete BS.

A lot depends on weight class and level. I have seen a ton of boys come off Central and start. My son played central and is starting varsity in his Sophmore year.

And for those who like to bitch about coaches, shut up or volunteer to coach yourself.

BTW. The racist moniker has last all effect, since it is the generic fallback to those who don't have a good argument.

I heard the same thing about Hayfield. There were 3 players all brothers/siblings who are no longer on the team as of this past friday. Seems like they did not live in the school district. To make matters worse it was the same 3 kids who left the school during last basketball season for PG county. Now I am hearing the hawks might have to forfeit the 5 victories that the players participated in. Anyone with more information on this? Something smells fishy.

I actually know the family, they all live in VA under Hayfield's district. They had a family issue that had to be dealt with. I'm pretty sure they live somewhere in Lorton.

There's Westfield and then there's everyone who Westfield is going to beat.

I believe the kids are in school in PG County so they must not live in Lorton. If they did live in Lorton then they would be playing at Hayfield.

Lorton is split between Hayfield and SOCO. They do not live in PG because all of them have been attending Hayfield since middle school.

Can we agree it's an absolute joke that Marshall could possibly be the number 2 seed? They have the easiest schedule I have ever seen. They play no one good. When Marshall actually played a good team, Madison, they got absolutely worked. Madison had all their JV kids playing the second half and they still looked better than Marshall. It's a strange world we live in when you would rather play the number 2 seed instead of the 8 seed.

Have been and are attending are different. They went to school in PG for the second half of last school year. They do not go to Hayfield now or Soco.

It's honestly cringeworthy. Is Marshall having an up year? Sure. As you said though, literally anyone else who qualifies in both brackets would beat Marshall handily. And, the funny thing is that, if #7 remains the same and they stay in #2 they'd play the other worst team in that bracket, that dag on Yorktown.... I think Yorktown could take'em, but that's literally their best opponent they can hope for the first round. If they do win that, they're getting curbstomped.

I guess literally being the only 6A team to have a conference only with the worst 5A teams in the area is an accomplishment.

Anyone in the Gunston district would beat them: I'd take a good day Annadale to beat Marshall instead of losing by 1-point in a shootout, and the other four (TCW, MtVernon, Hayfield and West Po) would show them what average 6A, and somewhat above average 6A teams would do to them are capable of over a "good year" team who play people who would be even more luckier than Marshall to qualify for their own playoffs.

I would the rate the chances as 12.5% or 1/8.

Oscar Smith will likely have to get past Colonial Forge which is not a certainty at all. Westfield is very good but not dominant and while they will be a favorite in any game in the post-season they have upset written all over them. Just a matter of which round.

From the discussions I have seen (vapreps, etc.), unless something really weird happens with the strength of schedule pts in the VHSL power ratings, the winner is the #3 seed and the loser the #6 seed. The game ends up being the rights to home field for the #3/#6 playoff game the following week.

South Lakes maybe just a little too far ahead in #2 position unless all their past opponents lose this week (or they lose to Herndon...heh...sure..) and all of Madison or Centreville's win. Westfield is a lock in #1

Thoughts?

Stuart vs Falls Church (-21)
-Battle for Falls Church!! Stuart will win but both would probably lose to Mason

Marshall (-17) vs Wakefield
-Marshall easy win

Chantilly vs Westfield (-28)
-Battle for Chantilly!! Won't be much of a battle.

TC Williams (-10) vs Annandale
- TC wins and covers

Madison vs Centreville (-1)
Game of the Week, taken C-Ville.

Mt. Vernon (-10) vs West Potomac
-Taken Vernon

South County (-3) vs Lake Braddock
Tough one, I'll take South County?

Robinson (-7) vs West Springfield
Tough one, I'll take Robinson?

Herndon vs. South Lakes (-42)
Battle for Baron Cameron!! Won't be much of a battle.

Yorktown (-14) vs W&L
Battle for Arlington!! Taken Y-Town by a couple scores.

Langley (-14) vs McLean
Battle of McLean!!! Who really cares?

Fairfax vs Woodson (-10)
Taken Woodson but good for Fairfax for a much better season

Hayfield (-10) vs. Oakton
Cobbs to outrun Cougars

Stonebridge (-10) vs. Broad Run
-Battle for Ashburn and Game of the Year for Loudon. Stonebridge for the Win, might not cover though.

As expected, Westfield destroyed Chantilly, but you heard it here first, Westfield won't make it out of the region. When Chantilly went into a formation with an unbalanced line, 3 blocking backs and a running back in wildcat, Chantilly drove the ball at will. Used the formation for two drives, both against Westfield's starters, and both times drove the ball the length of the field on 7+ minute drives, one time for a TD, one time being stopped on 4th down on the 15. Your 6A north region champ will NOT be Westfield.

Posts like this show why the mighty Westfield Bulldogs continue to confound the lessers around here. If Westfield's D struggles, the offense will kick it up 3 gears. If the O is struggling, the D will clamp down their opponent like the 1985 Shitcago Bears.

Westfield had this game well in hand before the season even started. At this point, the only thing that can beat Westfield is Westfield.

SO, a couple drives which resulted in a total of 7 points makes you think the Bulldogs are prime for an upset? They might lose at some point, true, because that's how it goes but your analogy is flawed. Westfield had previously held two of the better rushing teams in the region, Centreville and Madison, to pedestrian results.

Plus, I guess you forgot about the 46 points they hung on Chantilly. Westfield has an offense that is more than capable of outscoring whomever it is they will face in the postseason. Plus, they have a staff that is probably one of the best in the state that's shown it can coach better than anyone in the postseason.

Gotta be rough being a Westfield-hating troll year after year. They are down this year but so is everyone else. No one stepped up and took advantage. 10-0. AGain. But every playoff game for Westfield will be dogfight to the end. They are not winning any playoff games by more than 10 points. Battlefield is good enough to take them down in round 1.

True, but he should still remain as a coach just not the head coach, he's to soft when i was there the weight room was always empty never forced us to go we were always the slowest, weakest team

Freedom Vs South County should be a interesting game, will South countys D be able to stop AJ Felton

I forgive you both for your lack of faith.

Beating a team with 25% fewer players by a touchdown and taking double overtime a beat down shows just how ignorant you are. When in reality The Tiger's are the team you fear most.

Good luck getting to Hampton inn December.

Hope you enjoyed your little run, after this year MHS will be back getting owned by OHS and the rest. There’s no talent at your JV or FR levels.

Btw how was the 31-7 drubbing last night? Expect more of the same this coming week only this time it will hurt worse as you get sent home from playoffs and your season is over. 1&done!

Since this is a NOVA site, I assume you meant 5C:

1. Stone Bridge (344) 34.40
2. Broad Run (316) 31.60
3. Tuscarora (301) 30.10
4. Champe (285) 28.50
5. Falls Church (284) 28.40
6. Potomac Falls (243) 24.30
7. Wakefield (213) 23.67
8. Lee, R.E. (S) (234) 23.40

1 v 8, 2 v 7, 3 v 6, 4 v 5 Most likely all blow outs and all LC teams after the first round.

Here we go again. Can we just once and for all forget about attendance as being very relevant to the success of a football program.

^^^^
This constant theme that a big school can never ever get any credit for beating a smaller school is tiresome. Oh, a smaller school can brag endlessly if they beat a school with a higher attendance. If they lose... no credit to the larger school - they should have won anyway.

IT ISN'T THAT SIMPLE.
