Driving from west on I-66 from DC at about 10:30 pm on Saturday night, we saw about 50+ (this is not an exaggeration) police cars with their lights flashing flying toward DC at about 100 mph.

There were so many we thought a bomb went off or a plane crashed or maybe riots. There were no rescue vehicles, though, only police.

We tried in vain to find out why via Twitter, Facebook, WTOP, WaPo, etc., but nothing. We saw that there was a rowhouse fire in Maryland, in which there were no injuries, and one guy jumping the White House fence, who had already been caught.But nothing that would call for this kind of police action.

Certainly something that merits 50+ police cars would get an honorable mention?

Anyone know what was going on?
