Anybody want to guess the percentage?

Considering this post started the day his job was posted, I think he started the whole thread. Other "things" have been going on for awhile, other people had reason to be disgruntled and they didn't post anything. I'm guessing the number is significantly higher than 20%. Most especially the bitter posts about DT and KK, and of course the posts defending himself.... DT is as fair and by the book as they come.

Wonder how many actual HC read and even post on this board. I would think they are too busy with their busy schedules to bother with this board. Now I wouldn't put it past assistants to post their 2-cents on here especially on the high school football thread, and from some of the hudl pics they posted, they had a lot of time on their hands.

If those are the 3 candidates then Henderson would be the best choice by far. What sets Henderson apart from others is that he has an extensive successful background as a head coach.

Woodson HC, I remember watching him while he was at Stonewall and coaching one of the all-star games at South County. He got ejected in that game, if I remember correctly it was in the first quarter for arguing about a blitz rule. He made a real complete total ass of himself. Woodson has done nothing with him as a HC. 5-5 with a loss to MT V, come on now.

I did hear that there is one more veteran former head coach that has applied.

At least 2 other standing HC. However, I do agree that Henderson is the early favorite.

Woodson HC - no way he is terrible. Has done nothing at Woodson
Hayfield HC - Possibly, but baggage may hurt him
West Pot HC - Real possibility, has done well at WP
Falls Church HC - no chance coaching at FC and LB are very different
McLean HC - Possibly, not a very good record at McLean but was a LB and Robinson assistant and liked very well by the LB admin
LB Asst _ real possibility, In the building already could hit the ground running

I guess my question would be, what sort of head coach would leave their program this late for another? It certainly could be a program killer, where is the loyalty?

How will the AD feel at the current school about the coach if he doesn't get the job?

lol all these people calling poythress and mike clark upstanding citizens are out to lunch. mike clark is a drunk bastard who harasses girls who went to LB 4-5 years ago every weekend at brion's, and poythress has always called students fags and retards in his class. they had to remove him from his job as a psych teacher because he was giving students the answers to exams and spent most of the class trying to impress his football players by bragging about how much weed he used to smoke. its all pretty sad actually, but im not surprised that a bunch of adults who still follow HS sports and drama think he's a good guy. when he talks to his players and students he puts on an ebonic affectation like hes jamie kennedy in malibu's most wanted. he's a turd.

I don't think it is a question of loyalty at all, its timing. The job was advertised now so why wouldn't a current HC apply. One would believe that any current HC who decided to apply would have had a conversation with his current DSA just as a common courtesy. Any decent competent DSA would be supportive. The key word is competent DSA.

This is all a puppet show. Henderson will be the next head coach and the administration has known this for a while now. Sad, but true.

He will run the show for 3-5 years. We will be better than average, but the program will look dirty. Eventually he will get in trouble doing something that's frowned upon and we will be back in the same situation again.

Rumors are like butts, they all stink. The kids you are referencing had been at Hayfield since 7th grade and in the Hayfield area for years, everybody knows that. They moved to MD shortly after the Christmas break. Hence, that is why they stopped playing on the basketball teams. Nothing unusual about that.

LB cleaning house Thomas and Kerns to be transferred at the end of the school year.

It does make sense to start fresh for LB considering all of the implications the past few months.

For the new administration, the baseball and boys basketball should start fresh as well. They have 2 longtime coaches who try to dictate to the student athletes what sports they can and can not play. Time to make a change in both programs.

Overall, LB has some very good sports programs I think a change in direction for some of these old time coaches would be refreshing for the students

The next investigation should be into Rutherford and the Baseball program (include Dave Thomas,Kerns)
The verbal and mental abuse that JR is involved in with his students and players. He is untouchable. Maybe someone should ask why his players have to pay $325 for a Winter hitting Camp, where he pockets the money. He verbally abuses students in his classes, especially if they aren't Baseball players. He constantly leaves his class unattended leaving kids unsupervised in a weight room.

With this guy as head coach, I cant see LB being any better then 5-5 if they are lucky. Most likely no playoff games

Wins Annandale, Woodson Fairfax West Springfield ???
Losses to Westfield, Stone Bridge, Robinson, West Potomac, South County.

This coaching change will set Braddock back in the pack for at least 2-3 years.
When you change out a coaching staff it takes time for a program to recover.

Look at Robinson when Bendorf retired, at the time he retired they were still a premiere program. Complete staff change and they went thru struggles. They are just now starting to get back to that level, not quite but getting there.
Centreville same thing struggles for a few years under Panoni.

Braddock chose a coach who doesn't have a winning track record so it could be even longer Not quite why they went with him.

Welcome to mediocracy LB!!!!

Gotta feel bad for the LB players, especially the Seniors. They're going to get drilled by Robinson, SoCo, Stone Bridge, West Po, and Westfield, Agree with the post above, 100/1 odds LB is no better than 5-5 this season.

As for Thomas and Kerns they should both be fired. If they aren't they should have to attend every single meeting to answer for this entire disaster.

Did Thomas and Kerns do any research? This guy has one maybe 2 winning seasons over 20 years. Go back to when he was at Dominion, they were terrible. He must be a great salesman because he's only sniffed the playoffs 3 times maybe in 20 years. Those two ought to be fired off this hire alone, nevermind the other bs going on. The LB kids deserve better! What's the message here, winning doesn't matter?

Lots of "fake news" and "alternative facts" floating around this thread it seems, but who am I to know?

This has been very enlightening since I googled "jim poythress lake braddock" this AM after seeing some interesting tweets from LB Athletics and Football accounts.

I always liked JP when I was at LB, but I can definitely see how others don't like him, especially in today's PC climate. He's a great coach and I hope he can put together a solid program at his next stop.

I was there when DT took over from LB (Linda Burke, haha). I never knew how he was when I was a student, but then again my awareness was virtually zero at that age.

I'm on the outside of all FCPS football coaching, but it is unfortunate a "losing" coach is being put at a powerhouse like LB. Sometimes a coach can only be as good as the players he gets, but it looks like LB's kids are only getting bigger and maybe Woodson's are getting smaller? I'm ignorant on the subject so forgive me!

Best of luck to the new LB football coach in that apparently toxic environment. I hope LB gets the changes it needs in the administration.

Side note: Jody was a huge douche when I was at LB. Sounds like he hasn't changed...

Lake Braddock Secondary School is pleased to introduce Mike Dougherty as the new Lake Braddock Secondary School Head Varsity Football Coach. Coach Dougherty has been teaching Health and Physical Education since 1995. He has taught in Louisa County, Prince Edward County, Loudoun, Prince William, and most recently Fairfax County.

Coach Dougherty brings a high degree of knowledge and experience to the Varsity Head Football coaching position, one that he has held at various schools since 2000. Coach Dougherty has consistently and creatively challenged student athletes to be successful in all aspects of their lives. He is dedicated and committed not only to the game of football, but also student achievement and teamwork.

Lake Braddock Director of Student Activities Karl Kerns said, “We are excited to start a new era of Bruins Football with Coach Dougherty. His passion for the game and working with young people is what impressed me the most. He supports our philosophy of multi-sport athletes and the vision of Lake Braddock Secondary School.”

Principal Dave Thomas said, “I’m looking forward to starting a new era of Bruin Football with Coach Dougherty. We are thrilled about his emphasis not only on our winning tradition, but also his focus on building leaders and citizens in our school community.”

Coach Dougherty comes to Lake Braddock from WT Woodson High School in Fairfax, where he led the Cavaliers to two 6A Region playoff berths in 2015 & 2016. Prior to that he was the head coach at Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, where the team earned Cedar Run District Champions in 2012, and in 2013 Conference 8 Champions. Stonewall Jackson also qualified as a state quarterfinalist under his direction. In addition to football, Coach Dougherty has coached baseball and softball.

Coach Dougherty resides in Fairfax County with his wife, Jennifer, who is an FCPS teacher, and their children, daughter Logan and son Drew. Both are students at WT Woodson, where Logan is a junior and Drew is a freshman.

Great guy who did a great job with the WTW program.
He will do well at LB. Unfortunately he has to deal
with the asshole parents who all think their kids are

I'm sure he is a very good guy, he is just not a very good football coach.
His record everywhere he has been, shows that!

I guess the "new era in Bruin football" Thomas and Kerns are speaking of, is a losing one!!

I feel bad for the players community and fans, they deserve much better then this.

If you look 3 of 6 coaches they interviewed have winning records and good standing in the their communities. There were 2 LB assistants, both played roles in LB success, so essentially coming from a winning program. Doc is the only coach interviewed with a losing record.

What's that tell you??

Jp is a liar. He could never win the big game...ran his mouth like he was one of the kids. He knew about his players being drunk in a car at 3am back in Oct. Didnt want to loose his D1 player. So he tried to hide it. Maybe if D1 daddy and his wrestling coach buddy didnt try to hide it...things would have been different. If you want an investigation against someone, look at D1 daddy who is using his job to influence the school board. More to come...........

How many years does Coach Doc stay at LB, seems to bank on talent rather than a continued building of a program.

If you actually knew anything about the situation, you would know that JP did discipline the kids involved in a traffic stop where an open container was found. He did not try to hide what happened. The Admin in fact told him that he had to play them and no other penalties for the situation. He tells the kids every Friday night, "don't go out and do something stupid!" The officer actually did the kids a favor(that may have cost him his job) more so the driver because they could not prove that any of the kids did in fact drink. Kids were never charged with anything which is what the parents used to fight the suspensions that the Admin had handed down. The wrestling coach had nothing to do with it, but I can't dispute the D1 Daddy comment though, he started this entire ball rolling and won't stop until something is done about the Principal.

Kids are kids and do things, the question should be, why were they allowed to be out at 3 am in the first place? At some point of time, parents have to be accountable. They were playing West Springfield, they didn't need any of the kids involved to beat them, and the D1 kid didn't play anyway due to injury.

Last thing, what you are first saying about JP can be said about many coaches in the region. Hell, the only coach right now that can win the big one, seems like Simmonds. No one is perfect nor are they going to liked by everyone.

Say what you want, but across the board, JP made LB football from bottom dwellers to Regional contenders and has done a lot for the young men that have come through his program

Wrong D1!

Lamont's parents didn't play that. No one is perfect, but he was a model student athlete. He was actually smart enough not to jeopardize his D1 scholarship.

I saw JP at Costco. He said he wanted to apply at WP or Hayfield. Since neither guy got the job he will sit out. Doesn't even know where he will teach. Wouldn't talk about what happened. He said Doc is a nice guy and he hopes the kids do well. Said he thought LB was an 8 and 2 or better team. Said he would like to return to the sideline. Say what you want but Lb played every Thanksgiving. I bet WP or Hayfield would have taken that. BTW he looked skinny.

I wish JP well!

I just hope this new staff doesn't take a 8-2 team and make them a 5-5 team. It doesn't help them to start with Westfield, Stone Bridge and Robinson all in 4 -5 game span.

The key will be him putting together a good coaching staff. He should be able to put together a pretty good staff with Braddock's track record of winning. He will needs to have coaches with a winning track record and not just try to bring the Woodson staff with him. Otherwise, this could be a long season. The players and parents at Braddock are used to winning, if there is a drop off then he will be fighting with parents all season long. That's how HS football works if the parent are unhappy, the coach will be miserable.

Welcome to the BIG TIME DOC!!!!

So what is the deal on Coach Doc is he an offensive or defensive guy?

Who are the leading candidates for is OC and/or DC?

Any idea on what offense and defense he is most likely to run?

How fast can he get green days going?

Who in the current varsity staff will he ask to return (I know Doc Price already left)?

Coach Doc story...

Shows up outside of HS party where alcohol is being served. Knocks on door and says something like "...I'm coming in - you've got 5 minutes - I'd better not see anything that I shouldn't be seeing"

Thanks for the heads-up coach. Party on LB kids!

Most all of the LB staff already left
I don't believe anyone was interested in staying
