How can I find out the penalty for not having the right health insurance?

Self-employed, I have health insurance but it's not the kind that Obamacare considers the "right" health insurance. I want to keep the health insurance I have because I actually like it, but how can I find out what my "penalty" cost will be?

Stop making us all pay for your doctor visits by increasing our insurance when you default on medical bills.

Go to Obamacare and pay up.

They took $30 something a month from my tax refund for not having health insurance. The reason I didn't have insurance was I was unemployed.

Call the IRS and ask if yours is on the approved list. If not, be sure you are making an income below the poverty line to get an exemption. See:

Check out the website cited above to see if you qualify for another exemption. You will need to fill out paperwork for it if you do.

Find a better tax preparer. You likely could have qualified for an exemption.
