I have to scoff at what some other suburbanites consider ghetto or unsafe areas. There are some areas in Fairfax that are sketchy but nothing too bad. Even DC itself isn't too bad although you can get jumped there. I've been all over the place in "scary" Anacostia and some neighborhoods over there would fit in just fine in "swanky" Arlington.

As one of the earlier posters mentioned you want unsafe and scary for real, try some of the ghettos north of here. There are neighborhoods in Baltimore and Philly that look like war zones.

How come the Toll Road as a barrier is inverted from Herndon to Reston. I mean, in general, Herndon north of T.R. = bad, south (aka Oak Hill) = good. Whereas Reston, right next door, is the opposite.

Main st in Clifton is very dangerous. Lots of criminals and drunk drivers leaving events.

In Fairfax, we have right to carry, and carry concealed laws. In reality, there are no unsafe places in Fairfax County, unless you're a criminal.

Around where Route 29 intersects Annandale Road in Falls Church. Near where the bike shop, bowling alley, Quarry Inn and that little strip mall with the Islamic supermarket.

The 2 motels are sleazy, that supermarket is just plain weird, and the rest of it just seems sketchy, all sorts of little rabbit warren apartments, doors in funny places and so on.

This thread is how many years old? And no one has mentioned the most dangerous place in Fairfax - the Costco parking lot. All those Asian women drivers - now that's scary!

Oak creek neighborhood in Oakton. Lots of straight hood niggaz there. used to live in a house there with guys that sold pounds of weed and had lots of guns.

I lived over in that area years ago and it had gotten to the point where you had to "be aware of your surroundings" for sure. Driving home from work late at night there would often be groups of young men hanging out in the parking lot. One time a group tried to block my car which was sort of scary/crazy. Another area is Springfield Plaza, nothing strange has ever happened to me personally and I'll go there during the day. I've just heard of crimes in the news over the years, so I avoid it at night. Not sure how necessary it is to avoid it though. Like someone said, a bad area of Fairfax County is like the safe areas in some cities.
