No, we use facts to show how the so-called "studies" are created to justify spending. For example, this study:

> les/A4VUUT686987/$file/FCPS%20-%20Presentation%20t
> o%20School%20Board%20Work%20Session.pdf
>

attempted to show that teachers need a pay raise, but failed to include that teachers who left teaching at FCPS citing pay actually went into full-time careers with full-year pay. In many cases, they did not need the gold-plated benefits program that FCPS offers, and had no children so they did not see much benefit in all the days off.

The study also stated that 200 teacher positions were vacant at the beginning of the school year, but left out that every student had multiple teachers available to them.

If there had been 200 classrooms without teachers on the first day of school you would have read about it in the news.

This is not just smoke and mirrors. It's fraud by FCPS, maybe even criminal.

The study also found that teachers staying beyond 20 years were grossly overpaid, and occupying slots that could be filled with younger, better educated, more enthused teachers with the latest in teaching techniques and tools.

Ask any principal and they will tell you it is almost impossible to get rid of a poor teacher, short of multiple instances of actual misconduct with solid documentation.

What other standards would you have? Wearing an ugly tie? Rooting for the "wrong" team in the Super Bowl? If you don't have an actual cause to fire people, they shouldn't be fired.

Most telling of all is that the board does not want to be audited.

Hiding something Garza?
Yes you are, aren't you?

Here is how it works.

Feds required FCPS to have EpiPens and trained staff in case Mohammad or Juan get his hands on someone elses peanut butter sandwich.

Each school has to have mulitple doses on hand.
Feds give 20K to get it started.

Medicine expires after 6 months and is tossed out.
Most all of it goes unused. Infact, not one shot was given last year.

FCPS now has to stock it and foot the bill.
Oops, several teachers have to go through training every year. $$$

This process repeats itself year after year.
Your Federal and local govt. at work.

Tip of the iceberg. Guess who is cashing in.....

Did you know most of the repair services for fcps are on a no bid contract?

Cardinal forest put up a new sign and no one was allowed to bid.

Two weeks later, the bulbs went out.

Stewart signs told them to fix it yourselves.

I believe the school board is hoping we will give up and go away so they are simply ignoring the issue. Every year there is always openings that haven't been filled but there needs to be additional cuts.

You are getting 1% PLUS a step increase PLUS $40 MILLION walking around money to be distributed using a method that has yet to be determined. That's a whole lot more than those in much of the private sector are receiving this year.

But only if the FCPS Board demands are agreed to by the state and Fairfax County.

Advice: Don't spend it yet.

I think the people who post rants on this thread and other parts of the Underground don't understand what it takes to run a school system the size of Fairfax. FACT: Since 2004, FCPS has gone from the 13th largest school system in the country to the 10th largest school system in the country. A lot of people attribute this to the rise in undocumented people in the country and in the county. It is a law, federal and state, that school systems have to provide public education for everyone. If FCPS chose not to do this, they would face major legal consequences. School systems don't operate on air, they need money to function and like a lot of things in this area, operating a school system in this county keeps getting more expensive. Some people here talk about waste, but do you really understand the importance of public education? The goal is to prepare all people for the future, regardless of their ethnic or economic background. In this ever changing world, you need qualified people, namely teachers in the classroom to help students prepare for the future. Good people cost money, especially those who are helping future generations handle the challenges of a world where information changes every few seconds. Also in the Commonwealth of Virginia, our state ranks 8th in household income in the country and 38th in funding of schools. That second statistic is the very reason why Fairfax and other adjacent school systems should get the funding they need. Without proper funding of schools, quality of schools and school programs will deteriorate to a third world country. Think about it. Doctors are well compensated. They are necessary to society. So are lawyers and legal scholars. The same needs to be the case for teachers. We are just as important as the doctors and lawyers, in fact we help start their journeys towards being doctors and lawyers.

You pretty much answered your own questions, as the undocumented people increase the documented ones will begin leaving. That's a truth through time if you look at most metropolitan areas in the United States. I certainly realize that unfortunately we have to provide an education to those who trespass into our country but the amount of bending over to provide them extra services is ridiculous and eventually taxpayers will say enough is enough. As all other County agencies have done with what the Board budgeted to them, the school system needs to set realistic priorities and goals before despite what they say they want and need , the money is not there.

As they should be. It would be a huge waste of everyone's time and money to re-bid contracts for standard, ongoing supplies and services when the existing contractor has been performing to customer satisfaction.

You flunkies don't deserve most of what you do get. You earned your way to the bottom of the barrel through your lack of talent, effort, and accomplishment. The dimes you are not getting are all the ones that you clearly do not deserve.

Unlike you, teachers work under difficult circumstances to provide important and valuable service to society. We ought to be concerned about them long before we give a flip about you. May your assessment increase in spades this year!

Regardless of what some (e.g., ignorant nativists or TEA Party morons) might think, we in Fairfax County live in a wealthy yet low-tax area. That will begin to change if FCPS is allowed to decline. Just like top teachers, the high-income jobs and workers will stop coming to the County and start leaving instead. Taxes on the rest will have to increase to make up the shortfall. The costs of maintaining high standards in our school system come back to us many times over. Don't be so foolish or short-sighted as to mess with all that.

I guarantee you if this budget increase was put to a public vote it would pass somewhere around 60 percent yay to 40 percent nay.

Bullshit. The BOS needs to stick to their BOS budget and let the school hacks fall on their faces. The election for the BOS was last fall, They don't need to take anything from this school board or their either huge tax increases or cut Fairfax County govt funding for their sorry overspending greedy asses cause people are Too Stupid in FXCO to become a City and keep a lot of tax revenue that goes to Richmond.

When FCPS does the following, I will support an increase in funding:

1. Stop allowing overpriced consultants to write the RFP.

2. Have enough sense to not blow $500,000 for a consultant to issue a report telling us Arlington pays their teachers more.

3. Stop hiring friends and family for most openings. Other people in the community deserve a shot at jobs.

4. Stop giving Gatehouse staff 3% raises every year.

5. Hire decent principals--not GH ass kissers.

6. Remove lousy teachers from the classrooms.

7. Listen to the community, for once.

You cannot say we hire the best new teachers. What new grad/teacher would come to Fairfax with the highest cost of living and the lowest teacher pay in the region? Why would anyone choose to start here? Get paid less and have to pay 1800/mo. for an apartment. So we get the teachers that cannot get a job in Arlington or in PW County.

Non issues?

Fairfax County set up a whole task force on the turf issue.

The School Board spent a whole day with public debate on the bathroom issue and it is not resolved.

Flip Flippen cost a school superintendent his job over fees, and a quick Google search will show that is at least a nationwide issue.

And what they all have in common is money. Just don't forget that Flippen hustled a district out of $10,000 to give a one hour speech!

LOL! That's the same ridiculous waste-of-time answer that ALL fucktard braindead righ-wing asshole-trolls come up with. What a fucking coincidence. You have to be a citizen to vote in state and federal elections, dumbass. Illegals are not citizens.

Actual America has always welcomed immigrants. You don't. You FEAR immigrants. Because you know only too well that you are nothing but a low-grade mindless un-American asshole who very much needs to be afraid of competition even from raw immigrants. Meanwhile, we have just lately begun to reach what was long the traditional level of foreign-born among the US population. Things have tapered off some over recent years, but as the baby-boomers retire in ever greater numbers, we will need many, many more immigrants to take their places and meet the growing demands for personal services that they will create. Be ready. One way or another, they are most definitely coming. Better run away and hide, you pathetic loser!

Yes, non-fucking issues. Stupid ass right-wing drizzle-shit nonsense unrelated to the actual performance and well-being of the school system. That's the sort of buttfuck stupid stuff that you brain-dead morons occupy yourselves with. Too fucking stupid by a long shot to come to terms with and engage on any actually serious matter.

You should just go fuck yourself, you dickless pathetic moron. FCPS has seen its budgets gutted by the state and county for the past decade. It isn't time for cuts any more, you simpleton dipshit. It's time to restore and reinvest in FCPS before dull-brained asswipes like you can manage to completely destroy the place. Idiot!

We are led to believe that illegal aliens make one illegal act - crossing the border. That once here, they are law-abiding citizens that just want what's best for their family.

In fact, the criminality continues unabated once here. How do you live here illegally? Well, document fraud to start with, or identity theft. And if you are living under a false identity, what do you not do? You don't buy car insurance, or keep your car registered, or have a drivers license, or pay taxes. If you have an accident, you run away. If you visit the hospital, you skip out on the bill. And so on.

These are all things that no legal resident would get away with - you'd be hauled into court (criminal or civil) for any of the above. So we end up with this group that not only consumes a significant amount of social resources, but behaves illegally in many aspects of their life with impunity. Behaves in ways that law abiding citizens would be prosecuted for.

LOL! You have to have insurance to be registered, and if you are not registered, you'll be pulled over very quickly, which is the last thing illegals want.

> ...or have a drivers license...

That's true. You make it close to impossible for them to get licenses, so they don't even try. They still have to drive though, so they make fake ones. Enjoy the blowback, dumbshit.

> or pay taxes.

Hahaha! Employers withhold and pay their taxes. What illegals don't do is file returns to get back all the refunds they are due. Billions of extra cash in the Treasury that was contributed by illegals who will never be able to get a dime's worth of services back for them.

> If you have an accident you run away.

Hit-and-run is common enough in any case.

Listen up, dumbfuck! Because of their status, illegals try to fly under the radar. They lay low and try to have as little to do with "the system" as possible. They do not call police or fire when they should. They refuse to talk or testify when they have witnessed or been the victim of a crime. They don't try to sign up for welfare programs. They don't go to the hospital unless they are near death.

> And so on.

All of which will be more piles of pointless ignorant bullshit.

That's bullshit as well. That's all you seem to have here -- pure, ignorant, dumbass bullshit.

+1. Had a fender bender with illegal, no insurance. Made the mistake of not calling FCPD right then after many promises to call me with info - I ended up at the police station making out a police report for the insurance company for hit and run after ID I took pic of turned out to be fake. Cops just kind of shrugged - unless someone gets hurt, they don't even bother.

it was never at .7

teacher to admin ratio has almost always been around a 4:1 ratio which is the national average.

Take away the "teachers" who have no classes or classrooms and you will find that "support" costs are much higher than that.
