I was at starbucks today and this lady brought 10 ten dollars gift cARDS to give to her son's teachers. I told her they shouldn't be getting any gift cause we pay teachers and they earn more money than us combine. she didn't responded. Keep in mind they only work 180 days a year not counting snow days. only work 7 hours a day...

Just because nobody gives you a Christmas gift for your job as a line cook at Hard Times doesn't mean you have to ruin everybody else's.

Running the french fry machine at McDonald's is closer to reality for the OP.

What does this have to do with being a taxpayer? What someone does privately with their own money is none of your business.

It's none of your business what others do with their money. If that had been me, I would have responded by telling you to go fuck yourself.

Your thread has officially become about entitled bags of douche like you.

The OP doesn't have the stones to talk with a female stranger at Starbucks, much less chastise her for buying gift cards for teachers.

You need to pay more attention to your teachers. Your grammar is terrible.

Giving money to teachers (gift cards) is discouraged. Generally it leads to teachers with more affluent families getting rather large aggregate sums during the holidays while teachers with fewer students and less affluent families less. Its not fair for one teacher to get $300 in gift cards when a TA might get nothing. Give them cards, they are not servants, you should not be tipping them...

How can a teacher know if a parent does not like them? They get a Chipolte gift cards.

Giving a small gift to a teacher at the holidays is pretty common. They are "not allowed" to accept any major gifts. I can only imagine how many parents go overboard. Coffee shop gift cards are pretty normal. I don't know why, because buying coffee at a coffee shop is a complete waste of money. Looking back on it, grocery store gift cards make more sense. However, it does allow a small indulgence that you might not otherwise have, and that can make some people happy. I myself would take a share of stock.

We give our child's home room teacher a $100 gift card at Christmas and the other teachers (music, French, math, etc.) $25 cards to thank them for the efforts through the year. I appreciate knowing when I drop my child off each day, she is in a safe place being properly taught. I can concentrate on my job without concerns of any problems in her world.

If a teacher earns "more money than you combined," you must be poor as shit. What's your job, WalMart greeter?

Teaching. FCPS being a snake pit, my child is in a private school. With a 3rd grade tuition over $25K, giving a $100 gift card is a drop in the bucket.

You thought the woman didn't make much money by the way she looked. You thought a teacher must make more than you and her combined. That woman is probably actually rich. They walk around looking ordinary out of simple arrogance.
The $10 gift card is really a small bribe.

That is very funny. Renters pay rent, landlords in turn pay tax. You don't think the property tax expense is part of the rent pricing?

Teachers at Forestville Elementary School in Great Falls put up gift card christmas trees - every kid wants to put a card on it. One room Mom gave a $500 gift card to teacher by passing the hat. Teachers also available for paid tutoring in school during contract hours.
