Was there something else before Target opened in Burke (along Guinea road and Roberts Pkwy)? If not, what was the land used for? Was it a empty lot? A forested land?

There wasn't a store there before Target, at least not one that I ever went to (and I pretty much went to them all). I think Target went up around the same time as the VRE station did...but honestly I'm not that clear on that. Maybe someone else remembers.

That's it, a old white 2 story house. And a train crossing.
The road there is called "Red Neck Run" for its drag racing days, Up the road toward Kings Park West, on the left back in that subdivision was the Pagens House, a beat up burned , 2 story house where parties carried on in days of old with the "Bunnyman" passing thru on his way to the Southern Railroad tracks for a ride on a slow moving freight to "The Party Grounds" You may have seen sights there as I did, Young Clean Cut College folk pulling in, drinking beer , then "unloading" a .45 Auto into the side of a tree for "Kicks" . Now youngster. That's all you need to know..

Take a ruler and see where old Ollie lane used to be...the one that's off Burke road. You can still see it on google maps going up to the old train station.

it was still all woods when I started at Robinson in ~98...
you had to stop at the train tracks after making this weird almost 180degree turn and then stop at tracks before going along your way.
so i guess ~'99 they razed the woods and built Target? The overpass didn't come til a couple years later I think but I'm stoned and have been since '99 so it's tough....
...for about a year we used to have fun knocking down every single cone with our shitty cars on the overpass after it was freshly built and open for operation...oh to be 16 again.
also, when I was maybe 22, i got shitfaced in that townhouse neighborhood across from Target and puked on soem kids front porch. I decidd to walk home...to the landing...on the way I stole a small pink bike off a townhouse front porch, complete with those streamser on the handlebars and then drunkenly tried to ride it home across the overpass...i got alot of speed and wiped out and fucked up the bike and lost my shitty nokia phone....
...so logically, i stood out in the middle of Roberts road with my thumb in the air...first guy to come by was in a big F150 and picked me up, laughed about what a drunken fuck I was and drove me home without (weirdly) sodoming me in any way...
...10+ years later and I still feel bad for that poor girl who lost her bike to some drunken madman...
...............................
so yeah there was trees there before target man
Re: What was there before Target opened in Burke Virginia?
As someone else said, Trees and you can still see the path on Satellite images, I just remember an old house but it was not torn down for Target, just torn down. Part of that road still exists right behind the store and going to the Parking garage. Also Sideburn crossed the tracks and went into the area where Lake Barton now occupies. Burke Centre Conservancy had a shop and Boat/Camper storage at the end of Premire Court.

That was where Guinea Road crossed the railroad tracks. And I already mentioned those houses that you speak of, btw.

Why is there a lot of green space at the intersection of Sideburn Road and New Guinea Road?
And why is there a slip lane at the intersection of New Guinea Road and Corot Court?
It looks like they wanted to expand New Guinea Road to 4 lanes at one point.

That land should be returned to the Native Americans whom it rightfully belongs to.
