I went to slhs a few years back, and I used drugs and knew every person that sold stuff there. Deals were made between the middle class kids, and with the lower income students. Many people are claiming that this is an SLHS problem, but that is entirely untrue. I never was involved with a drug deal gone bad, because I used my own discretion in choosing who to deal with. I know personally one of the friends of the kid who was stabbed. Apparently Colin and Drake knew each other, so the victim knew exactly who he was dealing with. Personal discretion is the only way to remain safe when dealing wit drugs.
Furthermore, anyone who knows anything about the drug scene in and around southlakes knows that the drugs all come from OTHER HIGHSCOOLS. The kids who had the best weed were the kids who had a hookup at madison, oakton, or herndon. I never knew a dealer at southlakes that was self-supplied. Meaning the kids with LOTS OF MONEY at the schools in the better off areas would purchase the larger amounts (quarter pounds, etc.) and sell to the SL dealers at a higher price.
Drugs are never going to stop being used, no matter what the laws. That is a fact of humanity. If our schools want to stop violence in relation to the drug scene, they should accept the fact that they cannot stop the trafficking. Simply teach the kids "if you do get involved with drugs, which statistically about half of you will, then use these rules when purchasing, know your source, etc. " It is time that we stop blinding our kids with the stupid data/scare tactics published by our federal government. Practical, realistic education is the only way to solve a problem, not propaganda.
