I have been noticing lately that on tv there is alot of sonic commercials but the nearest one is Fredicksburg? I mean I know many of yall may not agree with me that they should build one in this location kingstowne due to the fact its Already packed with alot of kids around and I bet it would be nearly impossible to get a order but enough of that !!!

I Just wanted to know yall opion about if yall ever thought about it to??

P.s perfect spot would have been where they built that no good for nothing gas station next to Khols

Maybe it's time you get into business, if you think you have all the answers.

here, I'll help you get your start:

I've actually wondered why there aren't Sonic franchises in this area. You have so many transplants from the South for the military, etc, I would think that putting Sonics in near Quantico, Belvoir, Chantilly, etc, the places would be packed.

Sonic burgers are about on par with something you would get a Dairy Queen, this is true. However, you can get tater tots, onion rings, Frito chili pie and some other selections you can't get at most other burger joints (I'm talking real onion rings, not those frozen Funyon things you get at Burger King).

Roy Rogers is alson on Rte 1 by the Home Depot (or is it a Lowes) by Inova Alexandria. A lovely part of town.

Yeah, I've also noticed that there are Sonic commercials all over the place. Yet not one of them is near here.

There seems to be a lack of certain chains once you approach the Beltway. Not sure if its marketing non-compete agreements or cost, or what. But consider the following:

No Hardees, no Sonic, no Waffle House.

You'll find Sonics in central PA (Lancaster/Harrisburg area), plenty around Fredericksburg, etc.

Same with Hardees. Closest ones are Manassas Park and Stafford. There are several up in Baltimore but none in the real DC area.

Same with Waffle House. 3 or 4 of them in Federick and one in Dumfries, but none around here.

WTF? We're stuck with shitty McCrap, Wendy's, and BurgerKing. Luckily, Chick'fil'a has recently discovered that the DC area has lots of money to spend...

Right, the first thing that comes to mind is high quality food with Hardlees, Waffle Ass and Sonic.

Hardees used to be here, and for some reason, people just didn't want dried out, flavorless food.

I don't even know where to start with Waffle House, just awful. But, Fred Smoot said he was looking to bring some to the beltway, so maybe in you're in luck. I'd rather see some Aunt Sarah's pancake houses.

Sonic, eh, goofy commercials, but I'm sure I'd be haulin ass to the closest crapper as soon as I had some.

I'd definitely like to see a return of more Roy's and bring in some more Wendy's.

I agree with McCrap though. Only worth going there after downing 20 beers.

Some of the Hardees burgers are actually tasty. The $6.00 thickburgers are acceptable. Especially in comparison to a Whopper or A BigMuck.

The best way to describe it is "Hillbilly Nachos"...

It's Fritos, chili and cheese. Kind of a deep South thing.

LOL, as if fast food chili isn't greasy enough- let's add a bag of chips to it!!

I have friend out in CA who talks about eating at Sonic all the time. He's not a huge guy, but I'm sure his cholesterol level must be through the roof.

The best part about Sonic is that you don't ever have to get your fat ass out of the car.

Sometimes when you don't see a popular franchise chain in an area it means somebody is sitting on the franchise rights for that area. The rights holder doesn't want to build, but is holding the rights until somebody buys them out for some overrated price.

You're probably right, and I'd guess that is what happening with Hardees at least. They're like a rash around most mid-atlantic and southern metro areas including Richmond, Roanoke, Norfolk, and even Baltimore. DC, a big zero.

That's probably the case with Sonic. Also, I imagine the cost of land inside the beltway makes a drive-in restaurant impractical. Even if it were in the area, I would have to believe that the locations would be further out...toward Dulles, Manassas, Woodbridge, etc.

Hell yes we need a Sonics. Also a Steak & Shake!!

You need a few hundred K to start either franchise, but I'd guess there has to be a reason theres no sonics here yet.. Maybe land prices were/are too high to have a big enough lot filled with those car slots?

Re: need to build a sonic in the area
Posted by: ITRADE ()

Land might be an issue, but considering that land was extremely inexpensive along Rte 1 corridor and out in places like Cascades, Chantilly, Ashburn, and the like I would have expected to have seen at least one or two.

Re: need to build a sonic in the area
Posted by: jimmy jingles ()

I looked at Sonic's franchise page, and while Virginia isn't listed, MD and "Washington DC Area" is available. The idea about land prices is also possibly not relevant since they have an option for "non-traditiona" layouts without the drive-in parking lot (food courts etc)

Maybe they're just waiting for someone to come along and start one.

p.s there a roy rogers up in Manchester lakes shopping center where luckys is at

In-n-Out is similar to Five Guys in much the same way a Bud Light is similar Guiness. Imagine a Five Guys burger, only remove all the flavor, add a heaping helping of salt and extra grease and a side of fries that taste exactly like raw starch, and you've got In-n-Out burger. Also, if you think the service at FiveGuys is slow, just wait until you experience In-n-Out. The one time I went, I wanted to drag the guy across the counter and start beating on him screaming, "You've got like five ingredients. Why is it taking so fucking long?!?!?!?!?!?"

Probably cause they were busy adding their own special ingredients. Ever wonder why your burger was so salty?

Re: need to build a sonic in the area

i wasnt really ragging on five guys being slow. i was more trying to set it apart from "fast food" like mcdicks. i love five guys and think their service is fine. it just takes longer cause they cook the burger when you order it.

I was in Ohio this past weekend and they have a really good chicken finger place. It's called Raising Canes (or simply Canes to the locals). They sell only chicken finger meals. They use real chicken, really good fries, a big piece of Texas Toast and coleslaw. They also have a unique sauce that completes the entire meal. Their sweet tea is to-die-for. Way better than Chick-fil-A and McDonalds. They even have great ice! Haha. It's the little ice pebbles that break softly in your mouth. Every time I go to Ohio to visit family we go here at least once. Every time we go our food is so fresh it makes your mouth water.
If you ever try it, you HAVE to get the special sauce!

Check it out: http://www.raisingcanes.com/

Actually, aren't we on the IHOP side of the IHOP-Waffle House line? Fredneck is more southern than we are, so they get Waffle House. We get IHOP.

Wendy's we can have more of. It's my fave of the fast food joints.

I'm surprised a franchisee can just sit on the rights w/o building -- wouldn't the parent company insist on actual progress so they can skim off the revenue or whatever franchising firms do?

Honestly, Sheetz is like a 7-11 with a crappy to average deli inside. Hardly worthy of laudatory language.

The touch-screen ordering screens are kinda cool, though.

I go to school at JMU and I had never been to sheetz before coming here. The gas is always the cheapest in the area and they are open 24-7. The deli is pretty lame, but if you are in the mood for a fried chicken sandwich or a pretzel you are in luck. I doubt fairfax would ever get one solely because we never get anything 24/7.

Honestly, this is the FAIRFAX UNDERGROUND, with the over abundance of losers on this site, you think anyone would have enough capital to build a structure from ground up? People on this board barely have enough money to get out from living in their parents basement. Ground up build, engineering, architectual fees, county approval process, construction, equipment and fixtures, you'll have close to 2million in the whole project on a 1/2 acre commercial lot. Like my man stevie tyler use to say, "DREAM ON, DREAM ON, DREAM UNTIL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE"

I don't think most people here are losers, although there are some for sure. However this area is an economic bed of opportunity for multiple commercial establishments, and with the universities and other places that attract younger people, could be a bastion of activity for restaurants such as Krystal or White Castle, Sonic, etc.
