This is not going to be some small quaint brewery. They are expecting to hold 1.500 people in this space................ Please do your homework before you "OK" these plans

Clifton needs something to improve the area. It's basically a couple of horse farms and some old crappy houses from the 40's.

Its not 1500 people at the same time, it's a MAXIMUM ESTIMATE throughout a busy day like a weekend. What's that average out to hour?

My family and I live in Clifton and we are not the "old curmudgeons," "rich libs," or any other name that many of you have tossed out. In fact, with each post it seems more apparent that most of the people on this forum haven't been to Clifton at all lately. Very few of the people living in Clifton have horse farms and many of them are younger couples with small children and growing families. We moved here because we liked the feel of a close-knit community that wasn't overrun by industrial interests, or else we would've stayed in South Riding. I don't mind a brewery personally, but the size and scope of this is a little bit absurd. To say that Clifton needs this to grow economically is equally stupid. Would it be nice to have a small brewery, sure. But I certainly don't want the Clifton environment to get messed up and the log jam of traffic rolling down Clifton road on the weekend to get longer. And don't argue that it is being built to help Clifton yokels; if Clifton wasn't thriving, they wouldn't plan a business right outside of town.

Man, some of the Clifton asses are so tight, you couldn't get a needle out of them with a tractor.

Well, I'll enjoy the new brewery's beer even more, knowing that some Clifton assholes didn't want the brewery there. Cheers!

It's not even 1500 people. I spoke to my buddy at the county. That was a worst case scenario number for their engineering requirements. How do you put 1500 people in a parking lot with 100 spaces? This whole thing is getting way blown out of proportion.

Can anyone provide a schedule for this project? For example, how long until the good people of Clifton stop complaining about this cool project, how long for them to build the brewery and then, and most importantly, HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN SIT BACK WITH MY FRIENDS AND ENJOY A PINT OF LOCAL CRAFT BEER?

I wonder who will be collecting the money at this event? Last time I went my credit card statement read capital roofing.

Cash is hard to follow......I wonder if Clifton has a chance to audit the numbers on this????

Dear Factual,
VERY nice guy indeed, but please know that he is a salesman of sorts. He is selling himself in order to build his empire. NOTHING wrong with a man wanting to build an empire. That's what America is all about. That being said, ALL of us have things or have done things we don't want others to know about, but what some may have witnessed. Those "things" can have a lasting effect on how one might see another in a different light.

Hope this helps. The Clifton Wine Festival has brought in an average of $25k to 30K a year for the last 8 years and every dime of the profit goes to the Town of Clifton. The town provides the space and a few dedicated area residents volunteer their time. Everything else is done by Marcus and his team. For the months of work it takes to put on the event, he gets to name the event whatever he wants. The event uses the credit card capabilities at his disposal as the town does not have a credit card system. The Town of Clifton finances are audited every year by an independent CPA (as are all municipalities) to insure no one could pocket money. I hope you issue an apology on this site for implying a possibility of mismanagement of money. Maybe you just weren't sure but now you know the the real facts. TP

The Clifton tight-asses, making their veiled references to wrongdoing about this or that, without a blessed fact to be seen as far as the eye can see. But that won't stop them from mumbling under their collective breaths that "something's just not right."

Meanwhile, we'll be enjoying beer. So go fuck yourselves, OK? Better yet, run home and fuck your wife, because she could probably use it.

Listen up you uptight asshole. I will not only park on the road in front of your house, but I will park in such a manner as to block traffic. Yes, the hordes of vehicles coming to drink beer in your neighborhood. Once traffic is stopped I will expose my shriveled penis for all to see, including your kids. Then I'll toss my empty beer cans in your driveway, all the while singing Country Roads. See you around!

Thank God the hoi-polloi will be outside Clifton's town limits.

Look, we get it. You don't want anything in Clifton that isn't accompanied by candles and a wine list. But you don't own all the dirt, and you don't control all the dirt. Do yourself a favor -- drive out to Old Bust Head brewery in Vint Hills. Nice place; nice family crowd; beautiful facility. This reflexive Clifton snotty attitude is what gets on our nerves.

As a long-time Clifton area resident the concept of Loudmouth sounds cool but I do have major concerns about public safety. In particular, the potential for an increase in the number of impaired drivers on the local roads.

Some of the numbers presented on this forum state that as many as 1500 customers per day may visit Loudmouth brewery on the weekends. Being a brewery, one would have to assume that vast majority of attendees will be drinking. I feel that it is safe to assume that a certain percentage (perhaps a small one)of patrons will be driving home impaired and or intoxicated.

This is especially bad because of the location of the proposed Loudmouth site. Most roads leading to the locacation are narrow, winding and country in nature. These roads have no sidewalks or shoulders so often cyclist, walkers, joggers, horseback riders, etc. travel the edge of the road. This leads little margin for error and driving impaired could make a huge and possibly tragic difference.

Close by to the proposed Loudmouth is Kincheloe Field where hundreds of familys travel to play/practice soccer. They will be sharing the same roads as the customers exiting the brewery.

The town of Clifton itself has become extremely busy during the weekends. Pedestrians seem to cross Main Street almost at every point and without warning. Driving through town you have to be cautious, alert, and on edge. Having "one too many" may hamper your ability to do so.

There will certainly be benefits to the community if Loudmouth becomes reality but do they outweigh the potential public danger that accompanies it?

As also noted, no more than 100 parking spaces. We appreciate your transparent attempt to sound reasonable, but it's still pretty transparent. Are you clockin' glasses of wine at the restaurants, too? Or is it OK for someone to plow through a couple of bottles of pinot noir before hitting the roads of Clifton?

I will so enjoy my first glass of beer there, knowing how much it pisses some of you off.

Hey tp - I saw a post about someone earlier complaining Marcus was able to use his villagio food trailer at the barn for the fun run in town.

Why was he given permission to do this and no one else was?

Will he be given the same permission this year or will there be a permit process that is fair to everyone in the community?

These are sincere questions.

Beer is 4-5% alcohol. Wine is 10-20% alcohol. So which is worse, a winery or brewery?

If Clifton really wants to stop their drunk mini-van moms they need to increase the number of DUI patrols and checkpoints in Clifton. I suggest a checkpoint every Friday evening on Main street in Clifton.

Hey iownafoodtruck- Villagio has set up their food truck at the Caboose Run, Wine Festival, Clifton Day and Haunted Trail. For the Caboose run, a percentage of sales is given to the CBA. Contact the CBA if you are interested this year as there is not an exclusive agreement. Villagio sponsored the Haunted Trail for $1000 and setting up came with the sponsorship but all other food establishments in town were offered the opportunity to set up at the entrance and all declined. Check with the event coordinator (around September) if you would like to become a sponsor/vendor this year. There are many other food vendors at the Wine Festival (town event) so an opportunity exists there as well. Hope this helps. TP

I have to agree with Factual. It's not the citizen's responsibility to reach out to this guy. He should have reached out back in Sept. Guess he didn't want to do that though because he probably knew that there would be way too much opposition as shown here in the Fairfax Underground site. I think that does speak to questionable integrity. Then again you don't get to be relly successful without stepping on a few people.

TP the real facts? What does a CPA auditing the town of Clifton have to do with anything? That doesn't prove that there is no wrongdoing at the time of collection or counting of CASH. Not suggesting there's any wrongdoing here, just like at church, you have to trust the people counting the collection plate. Always a little tempting to "put your hand in the bag". BEST to not have cash then there can be no question or have a local GROUP count it right then and there.

Clifton's problem with drivers is NOT alcohol or drinking.

It's all thoses skinny ass streets that are only two skinny ass lanes, curvy and hilly beyond reality, and have 5 foot ditches on the shoulder mere inches away from the concrete. Then you have every homeowner driving a big ass Range Rover or Ram truck hugging the center line. as they approach you on the curves.

I work for one of the engineers involved in this project. We've been involved since the beginning and it hasn't been since last September. The original plan was to develop houses. The brewery idea didn't start up until sometime this January or February and even then it was only an idea that the owner was considering with some others. He didn't even own the property in September. Land records could tell you that. A lot of what's on this site is garbage or not true at all. Be ware! Get the real story. It's actually going to be a pretty nice place with over 5 acres of hops fields and other things. These guys are doing this right.

wino- FYI. Cash is collected by volunteers at the Wine Festival gate and deposited into a safe at the event. The people I have seen collecting the money are of the highest integrity so if you have to trust people (and let's face it, you do have to trust people) these would be the people I would choose. When the cash is counted, there have always been 3 people present the 4 years I helped with this task. The same procedure has been used for the Haunted Trail cash receipts. As you stated, immediately counting cash is probably the right way to go and I'll pass on your suggestion as the way to handle things for all town events. TP

Let's stay on topic here. When is this place opening? This fall? This winter? This Spring? I have a 30th class reunion coming up next year and Id like to nominate this place for the before or after or main. I grew up in these parts like most of my friends that are still here and we'd be proud to support this small business, especially after reading all the BS found in this thread. Not cool. Not true. There are some good Clifton folk behind this project. COUNT ME and MINE IN!

Those of us that live near the brewery our worried about our well water. We already had one well go dry in our neighborhood last year. We are also worried about waster water from the brewery going back into the water table. These are legitimate concerns. We need to hold off any on more permits till these issues are addressed.

Hey! If you like the brewery, GREAT! If you don't like the brewery, GREAT! but stop the personal attacks. I work for Villagio and I love the people I work with and the family I work for. They r great people that do a lot for their employees and Clifton. Hell, last year Marcus gave, yes gave, one of his old company trucks to one of my co workers just so that he'd have something to get to work in. That's the kind of people I work for. They're good people. I don't know what some of you guys are talking about. It's FUCKED up and they don't deserve it.

Marcus may be a great guy but we some serious issues to address before the brewery can open.

Well water.

Traffic.

Parking.

And the permanent change the brewery would cause the neighborhoods that surround the area.

The meeting regarding this project is on Sunday, April 26th at 4pm at the Red Barn which is across the street from Trummers. We need to hear more about the environmental impacts of a brewery, and how the vehicle traffic in the area will increase. Has Fairfax County been made aware of this project?

I keep seeing "next to Paradise Springs", whne in fact the land is close to Clifton Rd., far from Paradise Springs. Any word on where they intend to actaully build this brewery?

Who is going to be at the meeting?

Anyone who has any real authority or is just the local town folks who will benefit $$ from the brewery.

I think we need a serious discussion with those in charge of permits to be involved.

This should not be pushed through until all the issues are addressed.

You all need to stop posting these posts....it is fucking up our integrity for the brewery. The documents have already been posted showing our signature on documents from the engineers office dated back to Sept. 30 2014.

A project of this nature has many agencies (including fairfax) engaged. Want facts? The "developers" as they have been labeled will be presenting facts, not speculation, on Sunday the 26th at 4PM in town.

This intrigued me...

but after double checking those documents the only work done in September was for soil tests... doesn't make any reference to a Brewery.. could in fact be for homes as Math guy suggested.

I'd say Math Guy & clifton303053 should kiss a make up.. why would two supports of the project argue... C'mon dudes- haven't you heard? There will be plenty of beer for everybody.

Craft brew and restaurant? Wrote:

Nope nope & nope. Restaurants which serve alcohol in VA do require a certain % of food sales.. breweries (in the case of Loudmouth Brewing Co) is not a restaurant and therefore does not have a minimum % of food sales required. ABC laws in Virginia a few years ago were amended to allow breweries to sell alcohol on site.

Does anybody here actually check facts before the make erroneous statements?

Clifton is truly beautiful. The homes, the land, the cute town, and a nice little winery tucked away. A new brewery coupled with the existing winery sounds like a great idea for a venue closer to home; weddings, parties, community gatherings. Hoping a compromise can be made with the concerned residents and the builders of the brewrey. The true eye-sore of Clifton right now are the hideous yellow signs posted along the roads in protest. Hope it all works out!

I have nothing wrong with a brewery in Fairfax, Va. I do have a problem with such a large scale brewery in an area that has homes on well water and septic.

It is unfair to the residents who live in these communities to have their property threatned with a commercial project in a residential neighborhood. The laws were not written with this type of business in an area like Cliftom.

We need to be proactive. Land owners have rights too.

If must be fun to live in Clifton. It is becoming a great town to party in. If you don't think they already drink a lot in that town take a look at the fences on any curve coming into town. You will see where a car has recently taken a piece out. Better yet, do it as a drinking game. Take a shot every time you see a fence with a piece missing.

If you want to send a message to the developers that you're not happy with their business venture then you need to make them see a difference in their income stream. Boycott their other businesses such as Villagio and maybe they will see that the local community is willing to take a stand.

Not happy? I'm overjoyed!

I sent a message the other day to the ABC board and Clifton Association saying how happy I'm that we our finally get a craft brewery.

Why has this taken so long for Clifton board to get a craft brewery here? We should of had a craft brewery years ago!
