Reston Becoming the New Land of Skyscrapers - Tallest Building Planned

Richard Whealen has found itself a big name partner to develop what will be Reston's tallest building.

Akridge and RTC Partnership LLC, led by Whealen, have formed a joint venture to construct the 330-foot-tall, 420,000-square-foot trophy class office tower at the intersection of Reston Parkway and Bowman Towne Drive, roughly eight-tenths of a mile from the planned Reston Town Center Metro station. The 23-story building will be 125 feet taller than anything that exists immediately around it, and with its penthouse, it will overtake the 314-foot-tall One Freedom Square as Reston's highest structure

FCFD will need a new tower fire truck for these giants. Tower "X" that can help firefighters to make saves at 350-400 feet . A crane type fire rescue truck for high rises. The current towers are about 135 feet. They can only reach less then half way up.

No kidding no joke . Now who is worthy for it to bear their name? Any fire heros? Or will it be "Tower Fairfax 1 "

Good point. Make the developer pay for the new fire truck not the my tax dollars.

Code requires a sprinkler system and bib connections on every floor.
Plus a stairwell on either side. Ladder trucks optional and not required.

No need for ladder trucks because if an airplane trying to land at Dulles crashes into the building on a foggy day then everyone can just walk down the stairs from the floors above the impact.

I agree. It would probably cost a million dollars.

There won't be such a fire truck. It's not technically feasible.

150 ton Terex Tower Crane with a 400 Ft Stick and Rescue Cab. Transported to the fire scene on 4 tractor trailers. Cost about two turf fields. 4 million.

Here's the new truck. Works up to 112 meters or that's 376 feet. At ten feet a story that's 37 stories.

You would need to perform a soil test before you set the stabilizing legs down on that beast. With a 20 foot span it would be useless in most scenarios, a fleet of tow trucks would have to follow it to clear enough room for the legs. How many people could it rescue per hour? 6 at most?

If I worked in a skyscraper I would invest in a parachute or serious repelling equipment if I was to be that worried about it.

Needs to require concrete pads in front or other areas of high rises so that heavy rescue equipment can be deployed instead of regular asphalt. And require design of these tall buildings so rescue equipment can access the building. Yes it can be done with nice landscaping to go along ect. As far as the legs they extend. Its only a bit wider then a regular tractor trailer with the legs unextended. Beats a 135 ft Tower thats all FCFD has now. And no it would not replace the 135 footers. Just a new piece of equipment with extended capacity to Save Lives

And when we originally started living in Reston back in the 80's, the building at the Intl center was the ONLY tallest one in Reston. Good thing I moved out of that heap, Reston caters to the rich. Parents rented a place at Charter Oak and bought a condo at Chestnut Grove, I stay away from there as much as possible.
