Piss in a 5 gallon bucket, and make sure it's a dark piss. Leave the bucket under a willow tree overnight. If the moon is full, you'll return to a bucket full of lobster.

do they really scream when you put them in the boiling water? That would sadden me, I don't think I can do it.

I would typically avoid most of the grocery stores...they simply do not have enough volume and turnover to maintain quality which is probably one of the reasons why you rarely (if ever) see live lobsters at Whole Foods.

If you can find a local fishmonger I would try there, but you can order online from The Lobster Guy (http://www.thelobsterguy.com/live-maine-lobster.html) which has super fresh live lobster at a great price. Shipping is going to add $30-40 to the cost, but it is a special occassion.

Don't bother with lobsters under 1 1/2 pounds...the meat to shell ratio is terrible. Something in the 1 3/4-2 pound range should be perfect, but the 1 1/2 ones are not bad if you don't plan on having leftovers.

Finally, some places with have a special on culls (lobsters missing a claw)...often as much as 40% off...since most people want a lobster with two claws, but heck, just by more.

First, bigger isn't better with lobsters. The best tasting are around 1 lb. Second, leftovers?

No, but they sure cuss a blue streak! Make sure the kids aren't in the room when you toss 'em in to boil.

Make sure your lobster smells like ammonia because that is when they are at freshness.
