I'm not sure why Phrat Boy is bringing liberal politics into this. It wasn't ignorant asshole liberals who made this mess. Part of the problem is that UVA is actually pretty conservative for a college campus, politically speaking. UVA students are not typically bleeding heart liberals. I know because I went there but I was not in a frat. Men who are not drunks or rapists or the great great grandsons of slave owners tend to join other organizations or play sports but don't join fraternities at UVA. The frat boys would sit outside their houses on Rugby Road and cat call girls who walked by, either making sexual suggestions at the ones they thought were hot or outright insulting the ones they thought were unattractive, yelling "dog" and "fatass." I saw and heard it. No one who graduated from UVA is surprised by the Rolling Stone article and no one who is a student there now is or was in 2012 is denying that it happened. Fraternity rapes were pretty common knowledge among upper classmen and the administration. It is a tragedy that it took national attention to make them deal with it and I'm still not sure UVA will ever really change.

The worst thing that has happened so far is that the greek organizations have been temporarily suspended for a period when it's either exams of people aren't in school anyway, so I don't see any conviction of anybody for anything. Club - I don't know if former Gov McDonnell's boys were Phi Psi but I really don't think so. I haven't seen anything connecting them to Phi Psi and kids I know at or just graduated from UVA haven't said anything about them being Phi Psi. Former Congressman Eric Cantor's two sons were both definitely Phi Psi as confirmed by kids who know them and their own social media profiles. His older son Evan has graduated, and his son Michael "Mikey" is a current student and member of Phi Psi so that might be what you are thinking of.

I wasn't interested in being in a frat in college because the whole thing seemed really gay. And I hate the gays. The frat boys all had money and I had to work my way through college, so there was some sense of jealousy on my part. I read the article, and did find that there were a lot of omissions, not even a line saying something like they tried to reach the frat guys for comment, but got none etc.
The biggest issue I had with the story (and I may be wrong) was: This girl was raped and hit for THREE HOURS on a bed of glass after smashing through a coffee table. She must have been really torn up, but her friends urged her not to go to the cops / hospital otherwise they would never be invited back to a party like that again??? It just doesn't add up.

Agree that there is more to this story. Most journalist are self serving to some degree, they want to continue to get a paycheck, look for ratings or want to go on the talk show circuit.
I believe there is some truth in this article, but did it involve UVA, the Frat mentioned, a Frat at all, the implied people.
This read starts out as the same stories you read in the girly magazines that Suzie met Robert while he was at the beach or pool working as a lifeguard and there was some immediate visual interest by one or both parties. Then things progressed from he small talk and flirting.

I do believe that UVA covers up a lot of assaults trying to protect their rep. I was horrified and believed this story completely Bc I could see how that could happen there. But I am bothered by the fact that these alleged perpetrators have yet to be id'd and that the author is dodging questions about them. If this turns out to be another Duke this would be the worse possible thing that could happen for sexual assault victims. There must be some credibility to the story since the university apparently knew about it, but the degree of the assault could have been embellished I guess. If there is any untruth to the article the reporter should be ruined and Rolling stone held responsible. I am very interested to see how this pans out.
Where are these alledged rapists now? What is their statement? We need their side of the story.

I'm sure there's an issue at UVA and other schools and I'm happy to see some attention brought to it.

The rapists have lawyered up. No way in hell are any of them going to come forward "to tell their side of the story." They were also smart enough not to talk to journalists including Erdely about this. What kind of rapist sits down to tell their side of the story with a friendly investigative reporter?
The university knew about this case, so I doubt this is a complete fabrication. The prosecutor may have to cut some immunity deals to get to the bottom of this.

The article says she fell into a glass table which then broke. It does not say she was raped on top of that broken glass. It does say her dress was bloodied. It does not say if that was from the rape or from glass cuts. The article says her friends discouraged her from going to the police. It does not say that she never sought medical attention, either that night or sometime thereafter. Please read carefully.
