What's an EBT asshole? Is that like another level of benefits or something? Like Visa has gold, platinum, titanium and all that.

Not even sure what that means? Is that some sort of gay thing? White boys on black men? Like tops and bottoms or something?

Anyway, you still didn't answer my question about the EBT asshole card.

EBT is card that allows the hold to spend $4 a day on food supported by taxpayers.

You have earn under $20,000 a year to qualify. Basically it means you're living in a van done by the river.

It should just be called "Van by the River" card.

Thanks. I know what EBT is. I just needed clarification from Amanda6 on what the "EBT asshole" card is. She never quite explained that and now that she's gone off to enjoy a half caf - half decaf soy chai latte I guess we'll never know.

Virginia's EBT look like this - It means the person is a shit ass broke loser or mental conditions. Most poor people refuse them because they are an embarrassment.

The STC is still more classy than FFXU

Days the Springfield Town Center has gone without a major crime...4.

Days this forum has gone without some racist comment....Zero.

(In fact, you could probably sticky this to the top of the page. Iff a crime occurs at STC tomorrow or not, this forum would still be swarming with racists idiots. Which means the STC will always out perform the racists here in terms of class and consistency.)

Please. Don't. That hurts. That cuts to the core. We desperately want FFXU to be the classiest place on the interweb. Years of polite posts to prove it too. Please don't say such mean and hurtful things about us.

Went there yesterday for lunch. That's the food court? Panda Express and some Japanese place? I'm not encouraged by the "Coming Soon" ads, either. Chipotle and some Thai place? Eh. Where's Arbys, Popeyes, Chick-fil-A, Roy's, Five Guys, etc? Wouldn't eat that shit every day but there isn't anything to even look forward to going there. Landmark with the CfA still kicks STC's ass.

Stopped by at lunchtime today and found a whole lot of nothing and promises of stores and restaurants "Coming Soon." I don't know if those promises are as empty as the unleased storefronts. Something tells me they are.

All of that construction, just to build what is effectively Landmark II?

Also JC penny please upgrade your lighting on the garage Side. Dark as shit there.

I checked it out last night. Had dinner at the Japanese place. Not bad. I didn't notice a particular "demographic" one way or another. Didn't notice if I was a minority being white. Still waiting for quite a few stores to open. The grout in the floor looked dirty, but everything else looked great. Excited another theater is open in the area. The stores in the surrounding area are nice, and the condos/apartments nearby looked like they were on the newer side. It's no Tysons, certainly, but I think it will do better than previous versions of the mall.

Out of curiosity, we decided to check out the Springfield Town Center for an early family dinner.

What were our first impressions?

Walking through the main entrance (right behind the valet parking and smoking mall employees), we noticed 2 things right off the bat: white, white paint and super bright lights. The aesthetics are sterile, like a hospital.

Second? Two homeless guys hanging out on some chairs across from Maggiano's. One dude was sitting back under a ratty and filthy blanket and it was obvious that he had been there for a while and had no plans to move for a while.

This was not a positive first impression.

We ventured in further and I hate to say it, but it just felt weird. The sterile feeling was pervasive. The openness of the main entrance? I think they were going for something grand and impressive, but failed. It just seems open and empty. Hangar-like.

The feeling of emptiness increased as we walked through the mall.

I understand that they opened the mall early and that they plan to bring in more tenants, but the visual impact is strange. There's a lot of unoccupied space - the old Springfield Mall white walls are back. Now, they feature graphics, but it's the same effect. Most of these facades had generic 'Coming Soon' statements which gave off a strange vibe. The new white walls probably do an even worse job of hiding the lack of tenants.

The top floor seems fuller. The bottom floor is downright depressing. And much like the old Springfield Mall, the feeling is one of emptiness. Of an old main street of a town that time passed by. With little but a few cheap storefronts and a whole lot of storefronts covered up and shuttered. Not positive. Very empty.

There are weird, open lounge spaces that just leave you scratching your head. There's one we walked by and based on the embedded advertising from Scholastic (I think) and what I assume were supposed to be (very small) bookcases, it looks like it's meant to be the kid's library that the mall's marketers talked about two years ago. But it's just some uncomfortable, cheap, Ikea-looking lounge chairs in a big, open, empty space. Again, just empty and really weird.

Surprisingly, the floor plan feels much the same as the old mall. Right down to that creepy old white-walled corridor out back between Penney's and Macy's (next to the new Dicks). It's the same angled corridor. With absolutely nothing in it but empty white walls with no sign of tenants or life.

Speaking of Penney's, we walked that way to check out the Dicks and see if they'd fixed up the parking lot back there.

What did we find? Police arresting three guys right outside of Penney's.

The positives? I'll continue to go to Target, Macy's, and Penney's. I like having Dicks Sporting Goods nearby. It will be nice to have a Children's Place close by. But there was one at the old Springfield Mall so that's nothing new.

Positive additions? Maggiano's is alright, but overpriced. And I'm actually sort of excited to see a UniQlo opening up. Certainly not a high end place, but it's a decent place to find some okay clothing for low prices. Low-end, but brushed up a little. Much like Springfield Town Center.

I didn't know what to expect, but hoped to be wowed or at least surprised. I wasn't.

After dinner, our kids asked to leave and didn't want to see more of the mall. They were disappointed. Whatever it was they expected to find in the new mall, they didn't find it.

They received no objections from us.

The town center isnt going to please every single person. We have people who will nitpick at everything about it.

Lets say they waited until they got to near full capacity but this would occur in mid to late 2015, would some of you have been happier that they waited for more stores to move in?

Now the design isnt going to please everyone. Plus peoples previous impression of the mall is clouding their judgement of the new town center. Like most things in life, if you know something has attempted to make itself better, you give it a 2nd chance.

I think you're BS'ing because security has increased more than the previous mall. I've been 10 times already and every time I have seen 2 guarding the front and another outside the front entrance. I doubt they'd let some guy sleep on their bench all day. I was told by the construction workers when I worked at the mall during college that security would be much more strict than before so I have no doubt that more people will be arrested for either refusing to leave or if they have reason to suspect you're up to no good. I seriously don't understand why people are so jealous? New development means a positive impact on the FFX county economy. Why bring it down at all? Makes no sense unless you are from another county and jealous.

Believe what you want, but there were two bums hanging out on chairs just inside the main entrance yesterday afternoon. And one had a filthy blanket laying on him and looked like he was fixing to stay a while.

I said nothing about anybody sleeping on a bench. They were sitting on the chairs next to the escalators, right next to Maggiano's.

As for security? Did you even read my post? I specifically mentioned security: the police were arresting three people in the Penney's / Dick's parking lot.

By the way, what's the membership price at LA Fitness? Are they running any deals?

Went there last night, seemed safe and all. Stepped up security and a little centrally located info desk right by the front entrance staffed by a mall employee, who I'm guessing also plays the role of "mall eyes".

Most of the stores are
- clothing stores catered to the teen crowd/young adult
- Shoe stores

Yawn. Hope that improves.

I went a couple of days ago. I also noticed how white the whole place is and also thought it was sterile and hospital like. The floors are all white ceramic tile - no way those will stay clean. They already had spill stains and scuff marks after 5 days. Lounge areas have very cheap looking furniture and the light fixtures are pretty basic. Pretty much no carpeted areas to warm the place up. Entrance/ticket counter at the movie theater seemed too small. Not too many people were around at 4:00 on a weekday. Overall, it was disappointing.

Saw a lot of people at 2pm this week and more so after 4pm when people get off their jobs. I had to look for a parking space because there was none nearby. I don't really get the hate? it's stupid because developments obviously help Fairfax County's economy. One must be truely an idiot to hate on something that helps or must be from a county out in the boondocks or ghetto.
