I think there are at least 10 to 1 nicotine junkies to anti-smokers whining on here. They'd wrap themselves up in the god..motherhood and apple pie to justify a discusting addiction.

I dont like the smell of smoke, so I simply avoid bars and restaurants that are heavy in smoke. I dont complain to the government and have them outlaw something just because it annoys me.

^^THANK FUCKING YOU TRAVIS FOR SAYING THAT.
I work in a bar/restuarant that is filled with smoke, and that's part of the atmosphere!!!!!
Honestly.
And when people come in and complain about it...I always wanna say "Then dude, just leave." Honestly, if people don't liek smoky restaurants, then go to ihop or soemthing where it's banned.
kthx.

It looks like the public has spoken, then.

You are getting a little desperate arent you? First you say I have spoken so that is that. And now you think that the issue has been put to a vote to the general public.

Smoking and drinking is bad for you, period. However, since it is legal, let those who chose to do so, do as they please.

Thanks for that article though I still wouldn't get too excited.
"Amendments would permit smoking in rooms separated by doors, even if there is no separate ventilation system. They carved out exceptions for smoking in outdoor patio areas; at restaurants during private functions when the function takes up the entire restaurant; and at clubs or bars at times when under-age patrons are not admitted."

So does that mean a 21+ only bar is OK?

"American Lung Association had their own complaints -- that the proposal does not clearly specify what constitutes a separate room and that it lacks strong enforcement. Violating the ban would bring only a $25 fine for businesses."

Only a $25 dollar fine and permitted in separate "rooms".

I guess the bar I frequent the most will stay smokey being it's 21+ entry.

The bill is a complete joke. Allowing smoking in bars when "at clubs or bars at times when under-age patrons are not admitted." That's what? 99% of bars? And a $25 fine for a bar is like saying were not enforcing it.

This legislation won't help employees: restaurants and bars
will still have "enclosed, ventilated" smoking sections where
the employees will be forced to work in.

This bill is an anti-smoking bill designed to protect the health
of the restaurant customers -- the public -- not the employees.

It may indeed be a discusting habit. Some would say even disgusting. But the issue isn't whether the habit is disgusting or not. The issue is the limit of government control over people's lives and how they choose to lead them.

I think chew tobacco is a lot more discusting than smoking. Why don't we make them stand outside, too?

One of the most important duties of government to "guarantee" life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I can think of nothing more important then banning public smoking to do just that. Addicts should not drive public policy.

"Addicts should not drive public policy." Then who should? Fascists?

Currently, you have a choice of private establishments that have developed their own policy, based on whats best for them. Why not just patronize the PRIVATE businesses that cater to your preference? Why do you feel it necessary to legislate your agenda onto others that don't share it? Elitist Liberal Fascism is a dangerous game and is in direct contradiction to Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Happiness. If your in need of a more rigid nanny state that MANDATES choice for you, then you should spend more time up north outside of the Old Dominion. Ohh you'll be right at home with all enlightened ones like Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi. Queers and immigrants could be your bosses. Affirmative action appointees will be your supreme masters where they will routinely consecrate the bonds of obedience by commanding you to "assume the position".

As expected, the bill was rejected yesterday. This type of bill will never pass in a state that is one of the major producers of cigarettes.

Oh and dont forget that other protected constituonal right...the right to speed through yellow/red lights without a camera taking a picture of it. Such nonsense.

Because chewing tobacco can't give others cancer like second hand smoke, you idiot.

You're not exposed to second hand smoke if you go to a non-smoking establishment. Since you're too much of a pussy for dive bars, I recommend McDonald's; no smoking, and lots of opportunity for you to look at children.

'So fresh and so clean with the ladiez on the scene'? That just shows how much of a douchebag you are; Leave the rhyming to the professionals. You must be from Westfield and down with 70treez! BTW, I don't do weed, and I wonder what would happen to your bitch ass if you were locked up.

i think this is great. i'm a social smoker, don't get me wrong. every wednesday night, me and my buddies from mason go to Carlos O'Kellys down the street and have some beers, eat some mexican food, and i usually have a couple cigarettes. but i realize not everyone smokes, and if i want to, i can go outside on the patio and do it. no biggie.
