I have absolutely no clue what that means. But a simple look at my name says it all. Vollies covered our stations, without Paid personnel, for the majority of the week. Our requirements were at least 60 hours a month on duty and we were a very busy station. We worked side by side with our Paid Personnel throughout the week. We responded during the week to get additional units out. We ALWAYS had a good relationship with them. It is how a department that has respect for its community is run.

I put 25 years in working for the County. I would hardly call that 'gaming the system'.

I was an EMT. I was pretty sure my name gave that away. I was also a Volunteer. My response gave that away. That doesn't pay the bills. I WORKED for the County, in Fire and Rescue HR, specializing in hwe and training in such matters for Paid and Volunteer personnel, which my response also gave away. After 25 years of working for the County, I retired. After 28 years of being an Active member I 'retired'. I was NOT in the military. I was in MoCo. I was a 2nd generation at my station and married a Paid FF. We are now both retired in our early 40s and retired. I consult with smaller depts that cannot afford programs because I believe in it. It is a passion. Smaller Depts mean that I often do not get paid, but when you are doing what you love, you can and do make a difference for someone, then it is worth it.

I cant even state how fucking disgusted I am with this whole fiasco and story. Fairfax County is my hometown. I lived in Western Fairfax was a volunteer at 21 and know some paid folks there now including a EMS Capt. I'm embarrassed that my home area and a department which I always felt was top notch (I know guys who were/are TF1 at 21/18/14). This gives the whole of Fairfax F/R a massive black eye and breaks my heart that this shit has been allowed to fester for so long. What the hell somebody does on their own time and privacy is their own damn business.

You know nothing about my career. My career was based on NOT having HWE claims. On people treating each other w decency and respect. On being positive role models and mentors for each other.

However, in the rare cases (about 6 times) that a case was reported to me, my investigation would have started off quietly searching in places such as this. I would have been suspicious of seeing the details, Sta. Numbers, various women's name and pictures, use of language describing various races, then would have started matching that up w those stations. Knowing there had been 2 HWE lawsuits in 2011 that were won, I would know we had a huge problem, because as an employer, it means I have prior knowledge of a problem. This means the U.S. Federal Court is coming down really hard on us this time because we have not stayed on top of it and have allowed the problem to continue. So I would quickly but quietly check other social media to see how deep the problem goes. THEN I would start interviewing.

Luckily, I was never in any where near this kind of difficulty, what with JEMS, and Firehouse, and such writing about it and Hughes from Baltimore watching over the investigation. I did not have a fatality that may be attributed, I did not have the public upset. I had situations that had happened but were fixable without anyone losing a paycheck, because all employees were given a safe way to make complaints that were quickly addressed and fixed.

The goal is always to change behavior before it goes too far. To have a strong department that the community can be proud of. To have everyone come to work happily every day.

This is my 1st Post. I very clearly state, 'In every sector you have bad PEOPLE. The PEOPLE making these posts about women need to be removed.'

You are making an assumption that what I said in the beginning was what men thought only. That was not the case. It was across the board.

I believe firmly in treating people as you would in Church on Sunday morning. My grandmother told me, "Before you say anything, think if you would repeat in Church". I have held strong to that conviction throughout my life.

I do not know the affiliation of those who wrote the posts, but when I was asked, I answered honestly. I have not cussed, or called anyone out. I have asked for conversation because I believe this is an issue that needs to be solved across many sectors nationwide, for men and women, races, LGBT, religious beliefs, and many other things. But it takes talking and wanting to change things.

There has been case after case of people who worked in the public sector, not just FD and PD, who have been in trouble over issues like this. Look at what is going on in San Francisco as we speak. It has also occurred in the Private sector over people's Facebook posts, etc.

Wow. I came here out of mobid curiosity and could not stop reading. Each post I thought to myself, "OK this is the last one." Such ugliness from all sides. I am not a huge equal rights person. I, being a woman, believe that while there are some pretty tough ladies out there women really are the weaker sex. I feel like men should be protective of women and that it would be a natural instinct to be so.Whatever this womanmay or may not have been doing is not the point. Who are we to judge. For all you know she could have been a sexually abused child. Maybe not but the point is common human decency is to give people the benefit of the doubt and try to help them we will never evolve as a species while constantly tearing each other down. How could anyone feel good about hurting someone, especially someone who is obviously in pain. People who post such horrible things about others are just as in need of understanding and compassion. It's easy to have the knee jerk reaction of hate and vengeance but that makes us no better. If we know better than they do not to post such horrible things then we know enough that they need help and that the don't know better. For God's sake if they knew better they wouldn't have done it in the first place. There are more people in need of emotional rescue than physical rescue. Honor this young lady's life by rescuing and helping better humanity. Stop keeping it down by joining in on the hate. Peace!
