They suck money out of professional firefighters pockets, suck food off their dinner table and suck gifts out from under the Christmas tree. They're true parasites.

"Suck gifts out from under the Christmas tree?"

Even for a union career firefighter whiner, that's a bit dramatic...

It may be dramatic, but it made me laugh. Ticks nowadays just get in the way. People with a hobby, or a badge bunny looking to get lucky. In no other profession would this kind of thing be acceptable.

Sorry, Carrie Maybelle Underwood Anne, but yet agin, those dern volunteers done sucked all yer presents right from under the dern tree. Here's a secret: most of that fill the boot money ends up in the pockets of the people collecting it. Worst I've ever seen were volunteers in Springfield out by the mall in their personal vehicle collecting money in their uniforms. That money never saw made it to the station. Be careful who you donate to.

You add female tick board members to your list. They are not officers but still try to exert power over the other members of the department like they own the place. They're usually some secretary or nanny or some other low level person in real life and have to show everyone how tough and powerful they are.

Tick chicks spend too much time thinking the fire station is like "Sex and the City". If one ever makes it to being an officer on the BOD or operationally, nobody believes in them because they know they've screwed all the dudes in the station, the volunteers and most of the surrounding houses. You can't take them seriously when you know they've been tag teamed by paramedics in the same shift you're working.

If the ticks get your goat that much, go work for a department that doesn't have any. DC, Manassas Park, Alex., Arlington are all happy to receive your application. But don't get too excited; chances are good that if you got your certs through Daddy Fairfax, most of them won't mean squat outside of the County. What's more, other than maybe Arlington, nobody coddles their employees as much as Fairfax. Expect to think for yourself, look out for your self, and find yourself on the short end of the stick occasionally.

The volunteer ranks were severely watered down with EMS only. That program let in a lot of people who would have otherwise not been in the Fire & Rescue Department. It let in a whole gaggle of badge bunnies like the aforementioned Kayla and scores like her. Way too many people who thought it would be "cool" to ride and ambulance until they did and quit. Many thousands of dollars wasted on training for people who never used it in the real world.

You do know the county pays for the training and equipping of volunteers, right? And when they don't finish training and/or quit after one run you the taxpayer are caught with the bill. There is little savings from volunteers.

Please highlight the money taken in by volunteer departments, add it up and post here.

Let me read the Union recap of events....I see the Fire Marshal's office mentioned for their work but absolutely nothing about volunteer involvement. Must not have happened. Maybe next year, ticks.

You are aware that there are 12 active volunteer/career stations. In that union list, there were Stations 1, 2, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 21, 22, and 23, that are volunteer/career stations, and there was volunteer involvement in that damn boot pushing at many of these stations.

Nice try, union man....

I'm sorry, please point out all the volunteer dollars brought in and where exactly the department thanks those volunteer stations. Also, since 8 and 23 are part of the same department, that is Annandale, how many volunteers were actually riding out of and collecting? Where is the thank you to the canteen units? Show me the kudos for all the volunteer assistance and you'll have shot my premise down. You can't, can you.

Let's see if we can make this easy enough for a union member to understand...

The "take" from each station is listed as a single number. There is no separate category space for whether or not a volunteer or career person had the money dumped into a boot while they were holding it...therefore, each total is listed for the station as one number.

The fact that each station didn't "thank" the volunteers means absolutely nothing.

If you're saying that volunteers weren't involved in this, then you are either misinformed, or a union shill...

So you can't provide any info on volunteers assisting. So you've proven my point. Thank you for playing.

*lol*

bad idea for a thread in the first place
starting with a very very thinly veiled . . .
firefighters-paid putting down firefighter-volunteer.

Sorry, the opening "you're not better than anyone...(but I am)" while it is rich in hypocrisy, reads like a prelude to a catfight, meooooooow-scratch-claw.

While I realize that 9-11 did re-invented the firefighter's image from being a guy who is fighting death by boredom at the fire station with poker, checkers, a separate nap room, a fully stocked kitchen, and posting on the chatboards too much... it has gone too far in making firefighting into a sacred cow profession that all must worship. It's just not that big of a deal, especially with the crony-fest that goes on to get those jobs with lots of down time. I'd say firefighters, get over yourself, this thread is doing nothing good for firefighters. Reads like a slap fight between Gomer Pyle and Goober.

If I were to take your chart there and show it to any citizen in the county and ask them how much the volunteers did to help MDA their answer would be "zero". That is a bad chart highlighting bad data. If volunteer stations had. Oki feeds who assisted, perhaps an asterisk next to that sugaring would help. Most county citizens don't know there is a volunteer firefighting force out there and this chart does nothing to show they helped in this effort. I am sure GP Schaitberger mentioned the help volunteers did to provide this money when he presented it to MDA and I am sure the Local President lauded the help the volunteers did to help. Maybe it was the Fire Chief who said how happy he was with volunteer involvement. All you have are anecdotes and an ungrateful department de-writing history as they pass this check along.

Boys, boys, boys...soon enough the volunteers will only be running the canteen...

As I told you keep the faith, the plan is in motion and the volunteers will slowly be eliminated from the fire service...

Seven firefighters charged with aggravated sexual assault and more after they assaulted a fellow firefighter with a sausage. Real classy.

This thread proves how disgusting firefighters are. You can't stop spreading your legs or keep it in your pants.
