Saw "coming soon" signs for a Corner Bakery going in the Harris Teeter shopping center on Rt.50 in Fairfax, just down from Fair Oaks mall. Anyone knows what this means for the fate of the one in the mall? Seems strange to have two so close together, but the mall one always seems busy, so why move?

Mainly because indoor malls are dying. Look at the number of dead malls already and the demise of mall centric franchises like Sbarro.

I suspected a cheaper lease not inside the mall? That shopping center is kind of busy, but not really.

Is it in the corner?

Ironically, yes.

ChicFilA has multiple locations and seems to do just fine. I'm sure Corner Bakery will do just as well with 2 locations.

They're closing down the one in the mall for good and moving to the location off of 50. Some other food chain is willing to pay a lot more $$ to rent out that space so Corner Bakery has to go.
