Nice pic, good resolution, but if you watch the replay *carefully* you'll realize that your pic was taken after the ball crossed the plane. After crossing the plane, the ball hit the ground and X lost control of it for a sec, then cradled it back. But once ball crossed the plane, the play is dead. In any case, not that big a deal. Honestly I think Haddock probably in some way glad they lost, so that they don't get complacent on Dec 6th.

I have to agree with you 100%, yes CVHS defense is not nearly as good without Wiggins. I think having AJ back will help against the big plays, but yes the rushing defense is nothing like last years. I agree will be much more competitive playoff games for CVHS this year. QB position much more important, and though he is getting better each week, he's not quite what Walter was as a rusher.

Yep, I was there in person, on the CVHS side of course. AJ had a great game, but as I wrote in the "Highschool Football 2013" thread after the State Champ game, Walter was clearly the MVP, and Wiggins was a stud, but I think my comment on Sweat was an "oh my goodness" or something like that. Although all the attention was on Andrew Brown, understandable since he was National Player of the Year, I watched him and Sweat the whole game, and Sweat was unbelievable. I honestly thought he may have been the best player on the field. Nobody could block him, don't know how many tackles he had but it was a lot. Offensive players get the headlines, but Sweat was a freak that game.

You know what... it was a very close play and I should not have been so dogmatic about it. I don't agree with your analysis but I'm not going to say you are flat out wrong. It was close enough either way that I would not consider it a "blown" call by the on field officials if they had ruled it a score.

They will be behind Centreville and Westfield if all three win out. Division 5 games against Mt. Vernon and Lee kill South County's power ranking.

Sorry. Didn't know about the same conference rule. That would give South County 2 more points. It is really the poor records of Mt. Vernon and Lee that hurt their power rating the most. Westfield loses 2 points for Stone Bridge but since they have a good record it doesn't hurt as much. Westfield and Centreville is too close to call. It will come down to non-common opponents. Centreville was helped by West Springfield's win tonight since they beat WS and Westfield lost to LB.Non-common opponents:
Centreville (West Pot, WS & W&L) Westfield (So Lakes, LB, Fairfax & SB)

Because SOCO can be annoying, fans act like yapping dogs saying we deserve respect we deserve respect....win the big games against the real competition and go do something at states and you will get respect....Concorde (old) district teams like Centreville, Westfield, even Oakton/Robinson earlier have built up a lot of elite success over the years, so these teams deserve the respect. SOCO not quite there yet.

Great write up, Tutt is HUGE for Centreville. Another reason to show how good last years Centreville team was, Tutt was hurt and was a decoy in last years State Championship game.

Ranking after Week 8:

Centreville #1 (not a particularly impressive win over a weak Oakton, but this was their 4th shutout win of the season)
Westfield #2 (looked very good again vs. previously undefeated Robinson - if Evan Gray hadn't gotten hurt early this could have been a +28 pt blowout)
South County #3 (with LB slipping badly, we won't know how good SoCo is until the playoffs)
Robinson #4 (a tough, disciplined and well-coached team. was favorably impressed with their performance against Westfield w/o their starting QB)
Battlefield #5 (have not seen them play - but they have had a better performance than Patriot against all common opponents)
Patriot #6 (have not seen them play - still kicking myself for missing the Hylton-Patriot game - i was on my way but the wife forced me into other plans)
Lake Braddock #7 (surely will beat T.C. W and Lee but will they make it a game against SC)

I would consider Hatfield for #7. They played SOCO and Westfield tough. Even though they fell way behind Centreville when I saw them (down 42-6 late in the 3rd quarter) I was impressed with their offensive talent. If they had not had a million turnovers it would have been a closer game. A team that the top three teams would probably not want to play in the quarterfinals. I was also impressed with West Springfield's defense when they played Centreville but probably not enough offense to pull any big upsets.

After watching most the teams play Centreville are still the favorites if they are healthy but not by much. However they can be simple at times which leaves them predictable. Soco is very physical and they have a talented defense but they make mistakes and are to aggressive on 4th down which cause them to lose close games. LB's defense isn't good enough to beat the good teams but their RB is pretty good. West Springfield LB's are really good and they have a good RB but not enough up front and I think they're young at QB. Westfield definitely has a chance to come out of the north. I think the weak opponents of the prince William teams will hurt them in the playoffs.

That and the way they tend to leave their starters in waaaay longer than needed. Run up the score much, Coach Panini? It's going to haunt them down the road when they need backups with experience.

Oh, and onside kicks when you're up by 4 or five scores? THAT's something that will be remembered for a loooooong time. (BTW, the head coach handles the special teams too) enjoy it while you can, SOCO. enjoy it while you can.

Having seen most of the areas teams play in person (except Westfield, hope to get out there soon), I don't really see anyone being able to stop Centreville if they have all their players on the field.

Some keep saying SOCO leaves startes in(BS). SOCO has scored very few of their points in the 4th QTR. Go back and look at the stats of SOCOs starting players and tell me how many carries, receptions they have in the 4th QTR. They have run up the score as you say in the 1st 3 qtrs in almost every game.
Game 1 w springfied--Avery scored last TD in a competive game with 7 min left in game --final 42-13. Game 2 close game Hayfield. Game 3 Mount Vernon score 13 to 6 at half. hot 3rd qtr Hulett scored 1st play off 4th Qtr and starters came out.Score was only 34 -6 when hulett scored final 53-6. Game 4 Chantilly -Avery scored with 8:33 left in 4th and starters came out with score being 34-14. Game 5 lee all starters out in mid of 3rd Qtr withonly 1 4th qtr TD by 3rd string full back.Game 6 TC Williams Hulett scored w 7 min left in 2nd QTr and no started scored after that except Soph QB who had to play entire game as Starting Jr. was out with injury and SR QB out for year and final was SOCO 64 TC 12. Game 7 MV SOCO did not score in 4th Qtr final 63 to 27. Where is SOCO leaving in starters and running up score. last year SOCO lost 2 games that they led 21 to 0.

Just not possible if Centreville and/or Westfield win out. Look at the strength of schedule. SC has 5 teams with 2 or less wins on their schedule. Centreville & Westfield only have 1. Centreville only has 2 teams with less than 4 wins on their schedule and played no Div 5 schools. Centreville still has to play Robinson but Westfield should easily win it's last three and finish ahead of SC.

statistically the stallions score an average point per quarter so far this year:
1 - 11
2 - 15
3 - 16
4 - 7
Total avg per game = 50

So I guess they do take it easy in the last 6 minutes but lets face it; soco is still a bunch of big A-holes.

"Y'all are disrespecting soco. They have the best record in 6A north right now"

They might have the best record but who have they even played? NO ONE! They run the score up on teams and think they've earned respect….not a chance. Play a tougher schedule and you might start to earn some respect. Until then, go ahead and roll through the easy games and boast about it. No one is really reading the SoCo press until they play a formidable team and prove themselves. I give the other schools credit by stepping out of their league and scheduling some proven private school powerhouses. SoCo is too caught up in the undefeated record. An undefeated record only counts when you play comparable teams and can continue to win. SoCo has proven they don't have the discipline to win when it counts.

Centreville has competed and won and lost to westfield by 1 missing huge pieces. This is the one downfall to Haddocks system of playing two way players. Lidde said it best, imagine if Westfield lost Gibson and Gray. Thats pretty much what AJ is to centreville (and probably better than both of them at their respected positions). Now adding Tutt (db and wr) and Love at linebacker. If AJ returns, he demands all of the respect for opposing teams. No more stacking the box against Boose, no more double teaming Tutt. Offenses will be silly to throw passes constantly against Tutt and Turner on the same field. And it is starting to seem like Centreville has hit cruise control waiting for AJ's return. Once he returns, everyone (like Nickens-Yzer, Richbourg, Jennings, and the list goes on) go back to their natural positions like last year. I would like to see the Soco rematch since they seemed to be the only team to punch Centreville in the mouth last year. Just don't know if anyone can stop this offense at full strength, who to do you key on? It just seems impossible with the athletes they can put on the field.

Lots of football left. Should be fun to watch it all unfold.

Yeah they are unproven, like back a couple of years ago when they were in the 5A state championship. They went over and beat down Stone Bridge, then they throttled Yorktown

As I said before I just don't know how good South County is. They will have their chance in the playoffs. But I think you can see below why there might be doubters. Compare their schedule with Westfield e.g.:

West Springfield, 5-2 : Tough game, lower seed playoff team
Hayfield, 4-3 : Tough game, lower seed playoff team
Mount Vernon, 0-7, Easy game, bad team (5A – out of conference)
Chantilly, 4-3, Tough game, lower seed playoff team
Lee, 1-6, Easy game, bad team (5A – out of conference)
TC Williams, 2-5, Easy game, bad team
West Potomac, 2-5, Easy game, bad team
WT Woodson, 2-5, Easy game, bad team
Lake Braddock, 5-2, Tough game, upper seed playoff team
Annandale, 5-2, Tough game, lower seed playoff team
Overall W-L: 30-40

South Lakes, 1-6, Easy game, bad team
Hayfield, 4-3, Tough game, lower seed playoff team
Lake Braddock, 5-2, Tough game, upper seed playoff team
Fairfax, 3-4, Easy game, possible lower seed playoff team
Stone Bridge, 5-2, Tough game, upper seed playoff team (5A – out of conference)
Centreville, 5-2, Tough game, upper seed playoff team
Robinson, 6-1, Tough game, upper seed playoff team
Herndon, 4-3, Easy game, possible lower seed playoff team
Oakton, 3-4, Easy game, possible lower seed playoff team
Chantilly, 4-3, Tough game, lower seed playoff team
Overall W-L: 40-30

Last year 8 of Westfield’s 10 opponents made the playoffs, SoCo 6 of 10 (although, the two 5A teams, MV at 3-7 and Lee at 2-8 is a joke). Combined with the schedule and their lack of a history of playoff success they will just have to prove everyone wrong. One can't help but notice the only time they made any noise in the playoffs was when they were in 5A.

That does not make Lee any good. Advice to SOCO fans, win in the playoffs and then you will get respect. Concorde teams have been playing quality ball for years and CVille, Wfield, Oakton, and even Robinson and Chantilly some years ago have represented the North at States. Win some of the right games and the respect follows, simple as that....

Still do not like Panonni though....

Concorde District appearances in 6A/AAA Div.6 State Championship Game:

2000 - Centreville (W)
2001 - Robinson (W)
2002 - Oakton (L)
2003 - Westfield (W)
2004 - Robinson (L)
2005 - Oakton (W)
2006 - Chantilly (L)
2007 - Westfield (W)
2011 - Centreville (L)
2013 - Centreville (W)

That's six state champions and four runner-ups in the last 14 years. If South County can get past Centreville and/or Westfield and make a state championship appearance... they'll be getting respect.

I would bet 'Bring Facts or Shut up,' the stooge who is so defensive about SoCo, is actually Coach Bagwell from South County. The complete disregard for sentence structure and the multitude of spelling errors in the post sounds spot on Bags. The guy is a full time teacher at SoCo and he is illiterate; as are many of the football brethren at SoCo. They are primarily a bunch of loud, meathead guys who missed their chance in high school and college - so it's time to relive the imagined 'Glory Days.' Bagwell should've run his comment through the varsity football PR and community rep guy. Although I doubt he would have found anything wrong with the post either. Go Wildcats!

Panonni didn't lay down the structure this this team...he has nothing to do with it. This is all Haddock's system. And with Haddock's system he was able to take the 2011 team (which Panonni coached I believe) to the state championship.

There's a reason Soco doesnt get the respect you guys think they deserve. You dont just come to a neighborhood and become the big dog on the block, you have to earn the respect. Beating Westfield, Centreville, Robinson, and the other concord teams that do this year in and year out will get you the respect. From my understandings, you guys are more than welcome to schedule these games on your schedule, but it never seems to happen. Centreville goes after Gonzage and played LB for the last 5 years while they were a top contender, Westfield plays LB and Stone Bridge each year. Look at the records of the teams these guys beat. The powerpoint system works for a reason, they take into consideration who you beat and who you lose too, not just if you can beat a team by 50.

I dont want to argue with the Soco fans, if you guys are that good, it will show after Thanksgiving. My guess is, we see another Westfeild vs Centreville region championship, being the 3rd one in the last 4 years.

Don't know if anyone posts the latest VHSL rankings, which determine the playoff seeds. Some of you who think SC will get the #1 may be wrong, looks like WF gets it if they win out.

Westfield 31.71429
South County 31.00000
Centreville 31.00000
Battlefield 30.25000
Patriot 30.00000
Lake Braddock 29.71429
Robinson, James 29.14286
West Springfield28.14286

VTBoy,

Correct me if I am wrong, but if both Westfield and Centreville win out, they will gain the 1st and 2nd seed? With the possibility of Centreville passing Westfield due to their opponents wins/loses?

Hard to tell. Combined ratings of the final three opponents of each of the top three rated teams are:

Westfield 74.28571 (i.e. easiest remaining schedule)
So. County 78.00001
Centreville 80.71429 (i.e. hardest remaining schedule)

And of course each week the opponents ratings will change. I don't think there is a dramatic enough difference in the strength-of-schedule rating to flip-flop the top three, but I don't really know enough about it to say one way or the other. I believe points scored/allowed is also a factor.

If points scored/allowed that would help out us(south county) a lot because pannoni loves a running up the score kind of game

If all the to teams win out SC is pretty much locked into the 3 seed and the Battlefield/Patriot winner into the 4th seed. There are about half a dozen teams really close for placement in the 5-10 spots. Upsets can juggle this group quite easily. Two games to watch for the Centrevile/Westfield battle for #1 are West Spring/Annandale and W&L/Yorktown. If Centreville wins out they will have beaten both WS & W&L and if they both win it will be tough for Westfield to come out on top. If they both lose Westfield could win out but as we learned from the Edison/Herndon & Chantill/Herndon games the last two weeks there is always the unexpected. Should be exciting to see how it all plays out.

To South County Guy - you seem reasonable and also appear to have a grasp of reality. You're correct when you say Pannini loves a "run up the score kind of game." I don't know if this is part of an inferiority complex or what but he does seem to enjoy putting together a 'homecoming' schedule that allows him to score often. The only problem is, his homecoming scheduling seems to last all season until the last game or two. SoCo has some talent and is strong, but beating up on the little guy each week has to get old. Most good teams, regardless of the sport, know that to get better you have to be challenged and play the best. Step out of your district if you have to and at least schedule one game early in the season against a top team. That might earn SOCO some respect. Look at the private schools - they go out of state to Ohio and other strong football areas in order to challenge their kids.

Sick of the sorry weak pansies on here complaining about any team running up the score. If I were coaching I would try to beat your sorry arse moma boys 100 to 0. If anyone doesn't like a team crushing them, get better! Most games any team plays are conference games. You play to win the game. If anything, if I ever coached a team that gave up a 21 point lead from that point forward I would keep the pedal to the medal until the other team quit trying to score with their best players. I get it, Haters gonna Hate!!! GET BETTER or Shut the F up!

I agree. Not much difference between 2 and 3 seeds, in theory in the quarterfinals one will play LB, the other Robinson, not much difference between those two teams. Semifinal (assuming each wins) 2 and 3 will play each other, just a matter of which field.

Everybody don't worry as I see it Westfield will probably be 1 seed, CVille and SOCO 2 and 3 or flipped, and Battlefield 4th. Of course there are other teams that might get an upset but I think when it is all said and done Westfield will play Battlefield in one semi and CVille and SOCO in the other. Winners of those two games of course to play for states. Whomever wins out in all of this will have earned it. Also I do not think that home field will make that big of a deal as all the teams will travel very well and it will be like they are playing the games at neutral sites.....

SOCO fans really are yapping dogs, it has been confirmed. Yes SOCO "scared" them in the first half with the option wrinkle and then Centreville dropped like 42 points on them in the second half.

SOCO fans - stop hurting yourself looking for respect. At this rate even if you win still no one is going to respect you.

I will now be rooting for Wfield, CVille, Bfield, any of the other teams to beat SOCO since they are not quite grown up enough yet.
