I give Patriot respect though. For the last few years, every team that has played Centreville and gone down 28-7 has quit. They played their asses off. Patriot and Battlefield seem to be turning into what Westfield and Centreville are to Fairfax County. Could you imagine if there was only one school in each of those areas...

Should Coach Pannoni get fired? That question alone let's me know you absolutely have no clue!! He has done more for that school and those kids than any other coach in the state. He didn't inherit a team in 2011, he finally gave Soco some hope and made something out of those kids, unlike Bendorff. South County does however, appreciate all of the talk during the year, as the saying goes "Any press, is good press!!"

Battlefield walked away with a game that was handed to them if you ask me. A BS block in the back call gave them the game, and that is a fact. Soco secondary couldn't guard a soul, and their offense needed adjustments (which they made) in order to control the second half. There are no moral victories in football, so Soco will live with what happened, but Coach Pannoni's leadership is the only reason you are talking about Soco to begin with. On a website where everything said is hidden behind fake names and BS, you should all appreciate the dedication and hard work both kids and staff a like have made in order to make Soco relevant again. Success isn't inherited, it is earned and that is the exact way Coach Pannoni approaches each year.

The only one who needs to be fired, in my opinion is the secondary coach, he obviously can't get it done against a high caliber team!! Battlefield should be counting their blessings, and prepare for the ass whooping they are going to get against The AJ Turner Wildcats....I mean Cville. In my opinion, anyone could win with a kid of that caliber, so we will find out how "well Coached" Cville is in the next couple years.

Football in Nova sucks ass, and so do the refs!!

I agree. I loved the Patriot body language. They did not seem to get down at all. In fact, they played as if they thought they were going to win the game the entire time. Great attitude.

What idiots their are on this board. To suggest South County should fire their DB Coach or Head Coach for allowing Battlefield to Score on passing TDs. How about give a small amount of credit to Battlefield's QB Gallagher who has thrown 30 TDs to only 1 interception this year or to WR Zac Kerxton who had 61 receptions for over 1400 yards and 25 TDs. South County led the state of Virginia in interceptions this season with 19 so obviously they were doing something right. South County covered Kerxton with 2 guys most of the night but Gallagher placed 3 of those TDs in an almost perfect place and Kerxton just has great ball skills. A couple times the safety over the top was just a tiny bit late and still in good position but occasionally the offense wins. South County made some really good halftime adjustments and Battlefield only scored once in the 2nd half. The game could have gone either way in the last minute and South County is a really good team no matter what the idiots on this anonymous chat board say. I can think of several dozen high schools and plenty here in PW county that would love the level of success south county has enjoyed in only 10 years of existence just like us here at Battlefield. Centreville has the D-1 level DB's that may give us trouble.

You obviously didn't watch the same game I watched. South County's DB's were late on all three TD's, continuously got beat underneath and inside, until they made adjustments. #6 for BF was solid, but nowhere near the athlete of some of the SC secondary guys. You can make excuses all you want, but you were beat by the pass!! My question is, why weren't those adjustments made earlier, like after Braddock threw allover you? Adjustments are good and part of the game, but to wait until an average QB throws allover you in the first half of a playoff game is a problem. It's not like BF was the only team to have success throwing the ball on SC, Hayfield, West Po, and Braddock all had the same success. As a matter of fact, I believe the Hayfield game was a blueprint on how to beat SC from the early parts of the season. It is easy to point fingers, but to be proud of 19 interceptions sounds like you are more worried about stats, and winning comes second. Until that gets changed SC will be a good team who can't win the big games.

The post you are responding to was written by a Battlefield guy... not a SC guy making excuses. A Battlefield guy giving some rather reasonable props to a pretty good team. So, SC can beat everyone but the top 3 or 4... in pretty much any league that exists, that's still a pretty good team - but some refuse to do anything other than trash them.

Excuses, hey "you're wrong", just like I said "idiots" on this board. My team Battlefield is still alive, at least for 1 more weak. I just think South County is good, but our QB and WR deserve some credit. Some haters can only hate. Not sure what South County did to you. I did not see the other South County games but 10 wins and 2 losses are the important stats and that seems pretty good to me. All of the good teams only had to play no more than 3 or 4 really tough games. Over half of the HS programs in 6A are not good. South County is in the upper tier no matter what you may think.

Eh maybe... but strength of schedules are not all the same. Centreville played 6 playoff teams + Gonzaga. Westfield played 7 playoff teams (only 2 teams with a losing record). Battlefield played 5 games against opponents with losing records including 4 that had 3 or fewer wins.

Hey "Battlefield Guy" at least your anonymous name says so. Your team will be alive only for one more week, you can count on that. The 10-2 record wasn't the stat I as referring too, it was the 19 interceptions stat. When you put honor into a stat that is purely position oriented you are approaching the game all wrong. Not paying attention to the details and making excuses is what's wrong with a good team that could be great. I have a lot of respect of South County, and appreciate what they've accomplished this year, but to say nothing was wrong and the secondary got the job done all year is absolutely atrocious!!

South County has the ability to be a contender every year, and with the leadership of Coach Pannoni I believe they will be. The continuous efforts of that program will pay off eventually. So yeah sometimes people have the right to "hate," but that is only because they understand the game of football, and that secondary play is a big part of the reason South County's season is over.

Centreville will find out how "well coached" they are over the next couple of years, anyone can win with a kid like Turner!! I hope Cville loses to Westfield again!!

Go Bulldogs!!!

You realize that Westfield still needs to get past Lake Braddock for that to happen? Lake Braddock is the ONLY team to have defeated Westfield this year and they are good enough to do it again. I would rate the Westfield-LB game a true toss-up. Either team can win and it should be a very close game at the end. Westfield has not been dominate enough this year that one can think that a win vs. LB is a given. And if Gray is out it makes the job for Westfield that little bit more difficult.

I guess you were rushed and didn't have time to finish that sentence. Allow me to help out.

Anyone can win with a kids like: Turner, Boose, Nickens-yzer, Richbourg, Tutt, Behne, Love, Ferrick, Liddle, Skule, O'Connor, Brooks, Culleiton, Rondeau, Gambone, etc, etc.

Westfield will not let LB get in the way again, they want to prove that they are better than Cville, twice. Braddock played good against SC, but struggled twice with a average WS team. In my mind, LB will lose in a tough game.

"cvhs" my point exactly, Cville will find out how "well coached" they are in the next couple years. The majority of that list is seniors.

Tutt-Average that's why he is going 1-AA
Nickens-Average, role player at best. They called on him against WF and he didn't answer.
Behne-Very average, would be a role player anywhere else.
Love-Hurt, irrelevant.
Boose-Hurt, irrelevant.
Ferrick-Worst QB of all the remaining QB's still in the playoffs, big time role player!!
Skule-Slow as dirt, no leverage, and has balance like a drunk college girl. #55 is the reason the OL has any credibility.
Rondeau-Wow a kicker, you should be embarrassed.

Besides we saw how average Cville can be without Turner, just ask Westfield and Gonzaga! Last time I checked all of those guys played in both loses, one did not TURNER!!

Thank you for proving my point and Go Bulldogs!!

Oh dear... your abilities as a football analyst are sorely lacking. So bad that I suspect you are a Centreville troll. If you are correct than most teams in 6A are waaaay below average.

lol, You're kidding right? The only reason why you won that game was because Tutt got injured in the second half. Thats when you started passing remember? That game played again, with Tutt in for the whole game, you lose. With or without AJ Turner.

What could be a GREAT game is the South Region championship Dec 6th. Yes CVille vs Westfield will be a great game that day (presuming both win Saturday), but Ocean Lakes is up to #13 Nationally and Oscar Smith is #41 nationally (even w/o Josh Sweat). Both are undefeated against Va teams. Presumably both of those teams will win this Saturday setting up a great game on the 6th.

All I heard all week was how Battlefield was like Westfield. Desciplined, hard nose football. Westfield better hope everyone was wrong about that comparison or Westfield will be in for a long day like everyone else since Turner has come back. Turners return to defense has stopped the two best passing duos in the area. I hope Scoville is better prepared then the last two. Centreville is eating qbs alive right now...

Rivals
The cross-town rivalry between the Centreville Wildcats and Westfield Bulldogs will resume this weekend as the storied high school football programs meet for the second consecutive year in the VHSL 6A North Region finals. Whilst Westfield High School is located in Chantilly over half of its student population lives in Centreville making them natural area rivals. Westfield opened in 2000 resulting in many Westfield parents having kids that attended both high schools.

Coaching Changes
The refueling of this rivalry can be traced back to the hiring of Centreville coach Chris Haddock in 2010 and Westfield coach Kyle Simmons in 2011. Wildcat football made the coaching change to Centreville native Chris Haddock after disappointing 1-9 and 3-7 records in 2008 and 2009, respectively – the football program's only losing campaigns in its history. In 2010, Haddock won his first 8 games as head coach at Centreville and took them back to the playoffs garnering their first post-season win since 2001. It was a welcome return to relevance for a program that won a state championship in 2000 and had been used to going far in the playoffs during the 1990s and early 2000s.

Westfield’s football program also found itself in a small slump in 2009 and 2010 with consecutive pedestrian 6-4 campaigns that ended with first round exits from the VHSL playoffs. The Bulldogs announced in December of 2010 that legendary coach Tom Verbanic – who coached Westfield to state championships in 2003 and 2007 – would not be back for a 12th season and was being replaced by long-time Westfield defensive coordinator Kyle Simmons. Westfield’s return to football powerhouse followed immediately: the Westfield Bulldogs have a 37-3 regular season record in Coach Simmons first four seasons including a 19-1 record in front of the home crowd.

Games
2011 brought two epic battles between the Wildcats and Bulldogs. The evenly-matched teams played into overtime in the October regular season game which ended in a 13-10 Westfield victory. Centreville finally ended their 10-game losing streak to Westfield in the Northern region championship game at the Westfield Sports Complex by a 27-24 score – a gridiron contest that is still often talked about and remembered in NOVA high school football environs. Centreville went on – reaching the state championship game – falling to Oscar Smith 47-21.

The 2012 season saw only one game played between the southwestern Fairfax County high schools. Westfield claimed a 40-21 victory in a much-anticipated regular season home game for the Bulldogs. Centreville lost in the second round of the VHSL playoffs – a 14-13 loss to Oakton. Westfield reached the Northern region championship game a second straight year only to lose in front of the home fans again to the same Oakton team 23-16.

2013 once again showcased two games between Centreville and Westfield. Centreville’s star-studded team dominated both games. The Wildcats defeated Westfield 28-0 at a rain-filled venue off Union Mill Road. In the newly revamped VHSL playoff format, the teams met again at the 6A North Region championship game – the winner winning the right to play for the state title. Undefeated Centreville was too much for Westfield winning again 35-14 at an icy cold December home game. Centreville went on to win the state championship game against Oscar Smith 35-6.

The 2014 season featured another iconic contest between the old Concorde District – now Conference 5 – rivals. An intense see-saw battle off of Stonecroft Boulevard ended in the rain in double overtime with the Westfield Bulldogs pulling off the upset of the season defeating the defending state champion Centreville Wildcats 42-41.

2014 VHSL Playoffs
Centreville faced down a trio of Prince William County 6A North foes in the 2014 VHSL playoffs (Stonewall Jackson 56-14, Patriot 62-28, Battlefield 56-21) while Westfield defeated Fairfax County teams (Langley 47-20, Chantilly 27-7, Lake Braddock 42-20). Coach Haddock & Co. will host Coach Simmons & Co. at the Centreville High School this Saturday, December 6.

It all depends on whether Boose is available for the game. His inside running provides another dimension to the outside breakaway speed of Turner. Also, CVille defense must get healthy to make this anything other than a last possession takes all game.

Cville's defense is average at best, no way they slow down a beach team if they get passed Westfield. Battlefield threw allover them, even in the first half, and ran the ball pretty well too. Cville's defense is nowhere near what they were last year if you ask me. Offensively they can score all night, but they get in a shootout, their lack of defense is going to show. I like Westfield in this game, and no way Boose plays. They are truly a team that highly depends on one kid.

You obviously didn't go to the CV game...BF could not run the ball at all after the first drive. And if they "threw all over them" home come they only scored one TD in the first half?

Battlefield also lost a first-team all-conference tackle on both sides of the ball in the first series.

Battlefield did get inside the 20 a couple times in the first half but a horrible run call on 4th and less than a yard blew one series up. If you know anything about Centreville's defense is they love the run blitz, a QB sneak behind that big line would have been the wiser choice.

The other drive was snuffed out when Battlefield's QB threw a horrible pick to Turner who returned it for a TD. That's a potential 14 point swing right there. Didn't watch the whole film on this game but those were two series that stood out.

I also saw a post earlier were someone stated that everyone said Battlefield was like Westfield, so if Centreville with Turner back put a whipping on the Bobcats than the Bulldogs could expect the same. I know a handful of ref's who have officiated all three of these teams, not one of them had anything but this same opinion. Centreville and Westfield by far were and are the two best teams in 6A North, everyone else is a distant third.

I think the comparisons between Battlefield and Westfield were in relation to the size of both offense and defensive lines, that's it. The only difference is that the kids from Battlefield didn't seem to be very physical, Westfield's are.

One factor that I haven't seen discussed is fear, I think with the exception of the Conference 5 teams, everyone who faces Centreville is intimidated. These 15-18 year old kids read and hear about this juggernaut of a team, I'm sure that has some influence coming into the games. Then once the games get underway Centreville's opponents find out the hype is real!

I don't know about that. Even though they got spanked I didn't see any fear from Patriot in that game.

a coach and VTboy:

I was at the game, and #68 would not of done a thing to slow down Cville's offense. As far as Cville's defense goes, BF threw allover them chipping away the entire game. BF just didn't have the big plays, that's what hurt them. BF had two opportunities to keep it close, and let it slip away. I can think of two good drives that hurt them (the pick by Turner, and the turnover on downs both in Cville's red zone.) A more high powered offense like South County would of given Cville a lot of problems in my mind. Cville is a good team, but not the same on the defensive side of the ball as last year. Looking forward to a good game this weekend!

Go Stallions!!

I'll be there rain-or-shine. I sense the rain forecast is putting a bit of damper on the proceedings. Plus it is true there is a been-there-done-that feeling to this game.

I agree with analysis I have seen elsewhere - a lot of rain will hurt Westfield more because their offense needs to be balanced. I think it is a given that Turner and Tutt will get at least 2 TD's apiece so despite Westfield's best defensive effort I think Centreville gets a least 35 points as they did last year. The key will be can Westfield's offense keep up. Centreville plenty tough on defense but in my mind not as good as last year while Westfield's offense is definitely better than last year.

I look for a 41-31 Centreville win.

I think the rain heavily favors Centreville. They dont lose anything on offense by just running. Westfield seemed to thrive on offense this year with their balance attack. And, Turner and Tutt will be in the secondary, which makes things a little more difficult than the game earlier this season. Should be another good one!

Sorry Westfield but I don't see how you win this game because you wont be able to stop their offense. C'Ville will simply outscore you even if it means scoring 100 points to win the game. They have 3 running backs that can explode at any given moment and three wide receivers who run 4.4/40's. And if it comes down to overtime again, I promise you they wont go for 2. They will keep kicking the extra point until they win.

I think it will be another good game but this time C'ville will pull away and win 42 - 28.

I do believe that the first CVille-Westfield game was played in a heavy downpour and that did not slow down either team. Also, the artificial turf helps a lot so the rain will probably affect the game less than the return of Turner and Tutt to the CVille defensive secondary.

Didn't really start raining until the 4th quarter. Heavy downpour is a bit of a stretch. It was just a slow steady rain. Which will hurt the Westfield passing game most: Tutt/Turner or rain? Gotta go with Tutt/Turner.

Ocean Lakes crushed Oscar Smith last night, as expected. Ocean Lakes ranked #12 nationally, while OS ranked #38...though that was probably more about their name than ability.

Should be a great State Championship game next Saturday, no matter who represents the Northern Region. Though I would think the speed of Centreville would be more of a threat to OL than the physicality of Westfield.

Northern Region football is now consistently the best in the state.

And don't even het me started on Maryland. Despite what the biased Washington Post ranking would have you think, Virginia football is MUCH better than Maryland.

Congrats to Cville and good game Westfield. Almost overshadowed though by terrible officiating. They felt a need to swallow their whistles all game when they should not have and then called a phantom interference when the pass was uncatchable, the DB for Cville had a play too, and they both hit into the ground. Then they decided to see if they could give Westfield some help...the game would have been over earlier.
